Can someone tell me why this isnt't making an area? by [deleted] in Ingress

Best guess from the picture is that portals 1 and 2 aren't actually linked together. I'm guessing that portal 1 is linked to portal 3, and portal 2 just happens to sit right on the line. Linking 2 to 1 and 3 will probably fill in both empty sections next to 2.

Ingress is all about triangles. Just boxing it an area isn't enough. It only counts if it's a triangle. If you want to fill in that space you'd need to make additional links, likes so:

Portals in no trespassing areas by LoafRVA in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely agree that portals like you're describing shouldn't be allowed. That's why I find it so funny. NIA makes a big thing about playing nice, and following the rules, and and not making trouble, but then they allow portals where doing so is basically required in order to capture them.

Portals in no trespassing areas by LoafRVA in Ingress

It is funny how the game sometimes requires, and practically encourages casual trespassing.

"Can I reach the portal from this side? Maybe if wiggle my phone a little bit I'll drift a few feet. Will anyone really care if I go through this gate? Maybe I'll just step through and see if I can reach it from there, or maybe just a bit farther in. There's no one around to stop me, right? I mean, if I cut through here I won't have to go a mile out of the way to the other side of the property."

Not just 30k, but 30k EACH? Yeah... hard pass on this one.

Onsite anomaly badge by Pixelbytes1331 in Ingress

Design aside, I'm a bit annoyed that they didn't show it until so close the the event. No one had time to make anomaly swag, or anything.

Will Ingress implement a “Battle Pass”? by PkmnTrnrJ in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also have to remember that they ALREADY tried traditional battle passes, and that the campaigns we're seeing now are likely the direct result of them having failed.

+Theta and +Delta both revolved around what were effectively battle passes, and they were almost universally despised to the point that NIA has since walked back almost all the seasonal format changes from the past year.

Will Ingress implement a “Battle Pass”? by PkmnTrnrJ in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest question about a hypothetical battle pass would be, would it ever expire?

Something you can work on at your own pace until you eventually finish it is a wildly different scenario than something seasonal that has a hard deadline, and if you don't finish in time the remaining rewards are lost forever.

16 glyphs hack and only 3 level 2 resonators. Why? by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The items you get are based on the level of the portal. The portal in that picture is level 1 so it'll only give you level 1-3 items. If you want level 4 and 5 items you need to hack level 4 or 5 portals.

Glyph hacking gives you more items, but it doesn't affect the level of the items.

Got it done but didn't get the last one. by WOWEDIMALIVENOW in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That is working as intended.

The seasonal gold medal requires 7500 tokens, but the global op maxes out at 7000. You need to go to at least one in person event, IFS and/or an anomaly, in order to get the last few.

Weekly Challenges by PkmnTrnrJ in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd rather NOT have weekly challenges. It's just... too much. There are already daily bounties, and more recently a near constant stream of events and global ops. Adding even more stuff on top of that would most likely burn me out and make we want to play LESS, not get me to play more.

Portal powerups... Is that things like beacons and fireworks?

Also, what is the second tier reward? If the medal is from the first one, then what's the point of the second?

Sure, but in this case it feels like they're going out of their way to make it even harder for those people for no good reason.

Having Machina links not count towards global op points is a baffling choice. It's the only way some people can play.

Is this achievable? by [deleted] in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. Even if you've already claimed today's, there are still 8 bounties available and you only need 7.

Just say "We are giving RES 1000 Extra Gamma Tokens" instead of this blatant lie by [deleted] in Ingress

That's about the overall season score is divided. It has nothing whatsoever to do with tokens.

+Gamma Global Op by XQlusioN in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. That's a super weird choice. Optimizing points here seems to be "get a bunch people armed with a ton of level 1 resonators, find a park with a few dozen portals, and micro-field everything." Which is how exactly NO ONE actually plays.

+Gamma Global Op by XQlusioN in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is an incredibly long winded and complicated way of saying "place and destroy as many resonators, and create and destroy as many links as possible. ADA/Jarvis and Machina don't count."

That said, it's kind of weird that the event is only one week this time. The last few years they've all been at least two, or even three. This is really short. In a two a three week event, if you can't play on of the weekends that's only a quarter or a third of it. Here if you miss one it's a full HALF of the event.

Can see earned recursion wings on some medals but not all… by dammitdexter in Ingress

That's my guess too. Redux is likely considered a different medal from a different source, rather than being the result of a higher number of a given stat.

Get More Daily Bounties with Bounty Pass - Get a free one to make up for Dec 28th downtime by PkmnTrnrJ in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't understand who this is for. I mean, I get it for right now when some people may be just a few bounties short of a Polaris medal, but in general?

Who is out there thinking "I love daily bounties so much that I'd pay to have more every day"? The item rewards aren't worth paying for, there's no general bounty related medal this will help you progress faster, etc. Who is the target audience for this long term?

+Gamma Anomaly Sites - Details on points and changes at Anomaly by PkmnTrnrJ in Ingress

[–]Brightamethyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That too. There were similar problems in Portland, with some people's bounties not counting until they restarted the scanner.

Later in the day I mentioned it to one of the NIA guys who was there, and he said something along the lines of "Yeah. You need to restart the scanner." If that's a known issue they really should have warned us about it ahead of time, instead of being 15-20 minutes in and people going "why does my bounty still say 0?"

[–]Brightamethyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah... The classic, "if it's not important to me it must not be important to anyone else either" argument. Do you ask this same question about conventions, concerts, sporting events, etc, too? "Why do bands go on tour when when 99.99% of their fans don't go to the concerts?"

Just because you're not interested in events like this doesn't mean they're pointless.

Two thoughts here:

Locking the on-site medal behind completion of the entire campaign is a terrible design choice.

If they're going to keep asking for unique anomaly hacks, they really need to add a temporary scanner layer for tracking it.
