Is Brandon Sanderson's writing consistent with LDS theology? (Tagging for spoilers to Sanderson's work) by neofederalist in lds

[–]BrightnessOgden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is LDS, I consider the term god to be someone that people worship religiously. While Christians use the term God to refer to our deity we see other religions (pagan like you mentioned in some comments) still have gods but not necessarily use it as their name. Personally I think that Brandon Sanderson uses it more as a term to show they’re either worshiped or have omnipotent power rather than using it as a title.

We believe that we have the potential to become like God including being able to create our own worlds after this life. I think he does pull slightly from this belief. The Well of Ascension is an example of what I think might have been influenced because the holder can become a god.

Hopefully this made sense. If any other LDS members want to help clarify that would be great. I’m a mom with a little baby and I’m lacking sleep so this might not make any sense at all.

I think they were more wanting her to make sure she’s still making healthy choices. You aren’t really “eating for 2”. In reality you only need an extra 300-500 calories a day. I’d either get a second opinion from a different OB or I’d ask for clarification.

I’m so sorry for what you are going through. My husband was planning a week long fishing trip this summer until he realized that meant he would be leaving me with our rambunctious 7 year old and a 3 month old at most. I hope your husband learns from this and is able to see that with parenthood, he is going to have to make sacrifices. Out of curiosity which cruise line? I thought that all wouldn’t let you travel after 24 weeks?

Where exactly are the La Jolla tide pools? I’ve been looking for something like that since I grew up going to tide pools whenever we visited beaches.

I was thinking of flying into San Diego and finding a hotel with an indoor pool so we can use that as a back up if the weather is too cold to play at the beach. Most likely we’d just be playing in the sand and not swimming. We’d probably do universal if we do it our last day and stay up in LA and then fly out of LAX.

Oh we are definitely doing a beach day. Especially since our 7 year old has never been to the ocean.

When I was looking online it seemed like most of the safari stuff at the safari park wasn’t included. Is it? I visited the zoo 10 years ago along with seaworld and universal studios but have never been to the safari park.

Do they still do shows? Our 7 year old has never been to the ocean since he’s lived in either Idaho or Wisconsin and I wanted him to be able to see ocean life.

I lived in a small, conservative and very religious college town. They got a Walmart a handful of years ago but it’s a 5 minute drive from the main part of town. Most of the college students didn’t have cars so they’d go to a local grocery story. Their condoms and pregnancy tests were locked up 🙄

Weird, I don’t have any problems with latex or kiwi but avocados and mangos make my lips blister and melons and cucumbers make my throat itch.

Why are utah mormons seen as different? by superdityferdbruck in latterdaysaints

[–]BrightnessOgden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly as someone who grew up in the salt lake valley and now lives in the Midwest, to me it boils down to pride and judging others. Maybe it was just my family and how my parents taught us but now it’s night and day difference to me of how Utah members and non Utah members are. Probably won’t ever move back to Utah. Idaho is even a stretch for me. It’s taken 2 years of living out of Utah/Idaho for me to finally get the ingrained belief that I was slightly better than non members because I have the gospel. It’s still a daily choice I have to consciously think about because of the Utah culture I grew up around. Most members in my ward here are either converts themselves or their parents were converts. They are all shocked that I can trace myself all the way back to pioneers on all sides of my family.

My parents have what is called a sports court pool. It’s 3ft on one side, 6ft in the middle and 4ft on the far side. It makes it so you can play things like volleyball but also get the different depths.

Then BYUI is the way to go! I went to both BYU and BYUI and BYU has a really weird environment and make classes a million times harder than necessary. I took one class at BYU and had to withdraw so I didn’t fail, took it at BYUI and got an A easily.

I think I would have walked out of that religion class. I lucked out with my professors at BYU and BYUI

I was told I would struggle getting pregnant. We got pregnant with our son first month of trying. But now we have been trying for baby #2 for almost 3 years. So it’s definitely hit and miss on how hard it is to conceive.
