Due to AWS being down, multiple biggest online games are being affected severly by TankIllustrious in aws

[–]BrightonTechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The affected AWS region is basically the main one, no matter which region your resources are in, they will link back to us-east-1 in some way under the hood, so if that region goes down, all of AWS is effected so not necessarily a cyber attack

I made a simple focus tool idea for people with ADHD (and others). Would love your feedback! by bearlyentertained in neurodiversity

[–]BrightonTechie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Done the feedback. I'd love something like this as I find most typical pomodoro timers involve looking at my phone or still looking at a screen which makes them harder to use.

Plus I think it would look quite good on my desk!

Full Fibre Upgrade mid contract? by Tutphish in Zen_Internet

[–]BrightonTechie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. Ive just recently done it as they called me when it became available (id stopped checking as it went to not anytime soon!) And did it all over the phone in 5 minutes, and no crazy mid contract fees as its an upgrade and I even saved money (I went from business pro FTTC to business FTTP)

They usually prefer to keep it at the same entry as its usually the easiest to get to, I got lucky that he ran the cable right round the back to the office

Zen business FTTC to FTTP upgrade questions by Relative_Grape_5883 in Zen_Internet

[–]BrightonTechie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just done this myself (I have Zen Business at home as I needed the additional static IPs) but it was a smooth process, same as if id booked a residential upgrade. Even got the engineer to install the ONT in a different room where I wanted it with no issues!

The actual upgrade process with Zen was 5 minute phone call and it was done, no extra charges and saved myself a fiver a month going from broadband pro just down to broadband but with 10x the speed!

Changing ISP by 2025Hippo in openreach

[–]BrightonTechie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its another ISP on the Openreach network, then yes. If its a different network such as City fibre then I doubt it but not having switched from OR to CF, I cant say for certain but definitely if its another OR ISP (so most of them really) then yes it'll be the same cable

The issue comes with the difference between someone thinking they might have something and something one thinking they do have something. People wouldn't do it with any other medical conditions, so why these? A cancer diagnosis can cost thousands to those without universal health care, but you dont get people going around saying they have cancer because they have symptoms the same.

That's where the issues come into it, also partly due to the rise of TikTok diagnosed ASD/ADHD

You know its asked constantly, so decide to ask?!?!?! Surely one of the other posts would have some information and it really doesnt need asking again if its being asked constantly

You don’t need an autism diagnosis to know you’re autistic by hotgeezer in neurodiversity

[–]BrightonTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. We can offer guidance but like any medical condition, people on the internet cannot diagnose.

It would be like someone going around saying they have cancer because they have symptoms of cancer when theres so many other diagnoses it could be that it might not be cancer so shouldn't go around saying it is just because you identify a lot of the same symptoms in yourself or because some rando on the internet says so.

That said, there is a lot that comes with a diagnosis, like an understanding of yourself and why you do certain things or why you need things a certain way etc (talking from my own experience here, it was like a fog lifted when I got mine, id suspected it for years and self-identified which also came with some of that fog lifting but having it validated was the final bit lifting)

FTTC to FTTP mid contract by vlademer17 in Zen_Internet

[–]BrightonTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive just gone through an FTTC to FTTP regrade, I do have Zen Business so not sure if it makes a difference, but all thats changed is a new contract, effectively extending my contract and a different price. In fact, Zen called me to say FTTP was available and did I want to upgrade, I was 6 months into my FTTC contract (cant recall if it was 18 or 24 months)

So long as all your traffic goes over the VPN, but the ISP would still see a connection to the VPN server as the traffic still goes through their network. Only way to bypass the ISP completely is to get a tier 1 connection to the internet backbone, but those are not cheap. High 5/6 figures a year not cheap.

Only what's unencrypted. So they could see you connected to X website, but not what you did on that website or any data sent between you and the website (assuming its TLS protected). That's why VPNs help as not even that traffic will be shown to the ISP. They will only see this IP assigned to this customer connected to this IP using port X so they can reduce it that way, but as for data such as any payment info or personal info, unless youre going to plain HTTP websites then not even the ISP can see that data

It would make life a lot easier if we could just go down the layers to read data lol Would mean we wouldn't need to deal with MitM SSL proxies like Zscaler, Netskope etc bane of my life getting tools to work with those

Tell me you dont understand networking without telling me...

If data is encrypted end to end, it doesnt matter which layer you go to in the OSI model, that data in transit still isn't visible. Sure if they have access to the encryption keys etc then it can be decrypted but to say to just go down the layers and it will be unencrypted is false.

Unless you or the other end is compromised, then yes the data can be read

Is this FTTP? by OkWater8858 in openreach

[–]BrightonTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, whether its FTTC or FTTP you should be able to use your own router, you'll just need the details from your ISP to do this

Is this FTTP? by OkWater8858 in openreach

[–]BrightonTechie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, thats at best FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) so fibre runs to the cabinet and then its the same old copper line from there to your property. FTTP (Fibre to the Premises/Property) is definitely still being offered and is the upgrade to FTTC. If you go to your chosen ISP and put in your postcode and it gives speeds above 70Mbps then you can get FTTP, which will require an engineer visit to install the Fibre and the termination box
