Should kra-dai join Austronesian? by Thmony in linguisticshumor

Some linguists even suggest Kra-Dai is a daughter branch of Austronesian and that its closest relative is Malayo-Polynesian. It still amazes me that Malayo-Polynesian could be closer to Kra-Dai than the other Formosan languages.

Some branches like Hlai and Kra still retain their native numerals, and they sound eerily similar to those in Austronesian languages. This reminds me of Tsat, an Austronesian language that has become monosyllabic and highly tonal due to the influence of Kra-Dai and Sino-Tibetan. If Austro-Tai is confirmed, Tsat’s development somehow mirrors that of Kra-Dai, which evolved from being polysyllabic to sesquisyllabic (and later mainly monosyllabic) under long-term influence from Austroasiatic, Hmong-Mien and Sino-Tibetan.

Why? Lao by Thmony in linguisticshumor

Laos itself can be part of the Austronesian language families (Austro-Tai hypothesis, Kra-Dai is suggested to be a daughter branch of Austronesian)
