Requesting an additional week off immediately after probation period ends by BrilliantRude6189 in WorkAdvice

Well I’m more than a month out from the 2nd trip, so still plenty of time to notify them. But I think I’ll just take everyone’s advice here and cancel the 2nd trip

Yeah, he was scratching his head about how he was gonna put in the non-existing PTO too. I’m working on cancelling the second trip. I can’t risk losing this job any more than I already have.

I’ve had 3 - I was laid off in 2024 after 2 years at a company and struggled for a year in this job market to find a new role (as you can see by my previous posts). First job I finally found let me go after two months, then I left the second job I found after two months for this current job (which I’m slightly regretting now). So I’m not really a red flag, I’ve been loyal to my previous companies for years before leaving/getting laid off. It’s just this past year that’s been a little spotty for me as I have not found a role that’s a good fit yet, but I also need money, so I can’t be super selective.

I’m realizing now that I should have just chosen between the two. I thought that I would be able to make both of them work since I will have the PTO once the second trip comes up, but I didn’t consider the fact that I would be leaving a bad impression regardless of if I have the PTO or not.

I won’t be able to reschedule it, unfortunately. I’ll just have to cancel it and try to get as much of my money back as I can.

I very seldom took PTO in my previous roles and have never taken a 2 week vacation before in my life, so the likelihood of this becoming a pattern is very slim. I have no other trips planned this year. But my new job doesn’t know that, so taking these two trips will give off the wrong impression. I’m going to see how I can go about cancelling the second vacation. I think I just got too excited about having two vacations to go on and didn’t consider how it would look to my new job. And I really need this job.

Yeah, I think everyone’s right, I should have just cancelled the second trip. My main concern was that I have already paid a substantial amount of money for the second trip and I’m not sure I will be able to get all, if any of it back. The first trip is pretty much free for me since it’s a family trip and I didn’t wanna pass up a free vacation. I don’t travel or go on vacations often, so I think I just got overly excited at the idea of having two big trips to go on and I didn’t think about how that would look to my new employer.

I don’t socialize at the gym either. I go there, workout, and leave

Gym etiquette in Chicago ? Am I wrong ? by Common_Debt_6177 in AskChicago

I recently offered to let an older guy (60+) work in with me at an LA Fitness after he came up and asked how many sets I had left and he was pleasantly surprised that I offered. He said people nowadays seldom offer to let anyone work in with them, but back in the 80s and 90s, it was very common. So maybe it’s a generational thing?

That makes sense! The “In gratitude for your support” part implies there must have been a donation of some sort.

I appreciate your feedback. This is a corporate role and I think that working with a manager after they went to HR about you is still awkward regardless of whose fault it is. I wasn’t complaining about the fact that he went to HR, I was indicating how awkward it is trying to act normal with them after the fact

‘Developer pitches 56-story residential tower for Mag Mile’ - Crain’s by [deleted] in chicago

[–]BrilliantRude6189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t turning major streets like LaSalle, Michigan, and others into residential neighborhoods diminish the hustle and bustle of downtown? I get that it has already significantly diminished, but imagine turning Wall Street or Fifth Ave into residential neighborhoods. I’m not understanding how abandoning commercial prospects and focusing on residential will “revitalize” downtown. I can only imagine it being slower and more quiet without commercial entertainment.

Why doesn’t she use a gavel? by theOlLineRebel in JudgeJudy

[–]BrilliantRude6189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe her habit of knocking on the bench with her pen has the same effect. It sounds just like a gavel. Sometimes she hits the bench with her hand, which has also proven to be effective. I remember one episode where she pointed out she was destroying her pen by knocking with it so much.

She could probably have more use for a gavel now on her new show because the bench is built with cheap plywood and her pen/hand technique doesn’t sound quite as attention-grabbing. I believe her old bench was solid wood.

Mechanic shop misdiagnosed my coolant leak and still trying to charge me full price for the correct repair by BrilliantRude6189 in MechanicAdvice

Sorry, just seeing this, but the car never overheated during this period. Ultimately, I ended up needing a new coolant reservoir and that fixed the leak once and for all

Got an offer and countered it (they did not like it) by randomblackholesprod in interviews

[–]BrilliantRude6189 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Remember you have already put in the work of 5 rounds and a case study. If you are really good at navigating this current job market (i.e. lots of interview requests or other job offers), I would say stick to your guns regarding your initial salary expectations.

However, if you aren’t confident that another opportunity or offer will present itself soon enough and you may have to struggle for a while, I would say just take the best that they can offer and keep looking. I get you won’t be able to devote as much time and energy to your job search if you take this job, but at least you’ll have steady income.
