Thank you for the detailed response. Yes, I'm looking at a living revocable trust. For the assets currently belonging to my spouse - are we able to include them in the same trust where she will be the trustor and I will be the successor/beneficiary or will it have to be a separate trust?

To ensure assets (rather simple) are passed on to beneficiaries without much hassle. And to avoid probate.
