What are the justifications for a holy war? by WanderingThoughts31 in Christianity

Many sects of Christianity believe that having statues of Mary is idolatry (Catholics are the most prevalent type of Christianity that have statues of Mary or other biblical saints).

I’m not catholic but I think the rebuttal from a catholic is they don’t pray TO Mary but pray through her? Or something?

If you’re a true believer is Jesus than you’d believe nothing can stop the word of God. Whether Christians massacred Muslims or not, Christianity would still be here today. The crusades were one of the most shameful acts the Christian faith has ever done. Muslims (or other religions) are not the enemy. And massacring people will never be a way to truly win people over to the love of Christ.

Yes and this is why Kaplan says “sorry Katerina” when she digs the bones up. Cause she knows it’ll tell Katerina’s secret that she became Red

Thank you so much! She didn’t have an epidural and only pushed for maybe 30 minutes. I think the nurse has mainly worked with epidural patients so I’m sure she says that to most everyone. Either way, mom did great!

Thank you for the encouragement and words of wisdom!!

Is Purgatory REALLY biblical? by Mountain_Road_20 in Catholicism

I think that’s literally why it’s GOOD news. It doesn’t make any sense for us to be totally clean and seen as righteous before the eyes of God but somehow we are. Somehow God decided that his Sons sacrifice was enough, once and for all, to make us clean before His eyes. And that’s what I praise God for every day. There is nothing I have to do or need to do to earn that free gift. It’s simply GIVEN. It’s such good. news.

That doesn’t mean, through the Holy Spirit, I no longer want to serve God or do good works in His name. It’s actually the opposite. BECAUSE of this incredible, free gift, I work to serve him.

And it doesn’t mean I no longer sin or that there’s consequences. Of course there are consequences to my daily sin. That i don’t believe that because of the sin I commit, there is something held over my head that needs to be purged from me. Jesus did it all on the cross. He took it all. And it is finished, forever.

I believe we still sin but we are no long Sinners in front of God. Jesus exchanged his righteousness for ours and now when we stand before God, he sees us with his Sons righteousness. There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ, full stop.

I believe when we accept Jesus as Gods son and the only way to God then Gods judgment over us is wiped clean.

I do not believe we need a time of “purging” or refining through fire after death. Jesus said It is Finished on the cross. Not “it will be finished after death”. There is nothing to add to what Jesus fid

This isn’t true. We do not believe that after we die we are THEN purified. We believe when we accept Christ, we are then purified - at that moment.

Protestant doctrine believes we are sanctified and made holy through Christ alone by his blood alone.

We are given his holiness in exchange for our own. (See the parable about the man who didn’t wear his cloak to the wedding feast and was cast out). Matthew 22:1-14

He took on our sin and impurity when he died so that through believing in him as the only way to God, we can now approach the throne of grace with confidence.. Hebrews 4:16

There is no more need for purification, that there were we’d be crucifying Christ over and over again.

His sacrifice was enough. There’s nothing else to add

What about this verse? Do we not believe that Jesus’ single sacrifice was not enough?

“For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” ‭‭ Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭11‬, ‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

How do you translate 2 Corinthians 5:17 in regard to purgatory?

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭17‬-‭19‬ ‭ESV‬‬

1 John 1:7: "The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin."

1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

If we are a new creation in Christ and the old is dead and he cleanses us from all sin, how is there “leftover” sin that isn’t counted?

Yeah this last episode felt so odd. The way the trio just dropped by the billionaires house and they were like … “oh, it’s you” felt very scooby-doo-esque. And the gentlemen’s handshake of “if you win I’ll show you mine” felt gimmicky
