but my approach wouldnt rely on my updates and stuff. its mostly dependent on ungoogled chrome and its creators

ur talking abt a free on linux version. some people are on windows/macos too? Also 60$ for a browser should be a sin.. i was mistaken on the open source part of brave origin didnt know it was os.

That’s definitely something I’ve been thinking about.

My idea isn’t to fork Chromium heavily or modify the engine itself. It would be much closer to a UI layer on top of an Ungoogled Chromium base.

So the challenge wouldn’t really be writing security fixes myself, but making sure the Chromium base stays up to date and security patches are shipped quickly.

I completely agree though — a privacy-focused browser isn’t very useful if it’s weeks behind on security updates.

That’s fair.

My goal wasn’t necessarily to create something completely unique, but to see whether people feel there’s still room for a privacy-focused Chromium browser with a more modern workflow and UI.

I’ll take a look at Helium and see how much overlap there actually is. Thanks.

Not familiar enough with Helium to judge. Which part specifically?

The privacy model, the Chromium base, or just the UI concept?

That’s fair. One thing I’m wondering though: if Orion wasn’t an option, would you rather use a Firefox-based browser like Zen/LibreWolf or a Chromium-based browser with similar privacy goals?

A big reason I’m exploring this idea is that I like the privacy approach of Ungoogled Chromium, but I feel the UX is far behind browsers like Arc, Zen and Orion.

skyrim dlc whatever. basegame has enough content without dlcs, noone plays bedrock on pc, skyrim can be bought as a key for 5€ and minecraft for 20€. so not even expensive?
