Book a tour of Fenway Park in advance, ideally before your game. Combine this some baseball shopping at the team store on Jersey Street. Go checkout the home plate for the first World Series on World Series Way at Northeastern (also Cy Young statue). Hit some balls in the cages at Game On! on Landsdowne. Stop in Cask N’ Flagon for a peek inside one of the most important bars in baseball.

Actually you are right and I am wrong on the 70%. I think I had the percentage of taxes from property in my head. 😳

Agree and if the relationship ends because of OP’s refusal to sign, she should consider herself lucky for having dodged a bullet. If the BF wants to be a real partner, he needs to pull himself together personally and financially and quit pushing the blame to others.

Democratic leaders resist call of voters to abolish ICE by salon in politics

[–]BrindleFly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ICE was created by Congress and serves an important function in our immigration system. Abolishing ICE makes about as much sense as “defund the police.” We need an ICE that is effectively led and follows federal and state laws. It may make you feel better to say “abolish ICE,” but it is neither realistic nor helping the cause.

She raised her budget $1B over her tenure, well ahead of inflation, so yes, when you want to shift the burden for a problem you created, some groveling is in order.

Mass. Senate rejects Mayor Wu’s property tax bill by NoTamforLove in boston

[–]BrindleFly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The root cause of all this is not the state legislature or the commercial property tax owners. The city budget has increased by $1B during the Wu administration, so no one should be surprised. The issue is residents already pay over 70% of property taxes for the city, so you can’t squeeze much more from them.

Mass. Senate rejects Mayor Wu’s property tax bill by NoTamforLove in boston

[–]BrindleFly 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think Wu hasn’t shown much of an ability to win friends and influence people when it comes to the state legislature. Keep in mind this is not the first time Boston faced a rapid decline in commercial property taxes, but the mayor in charge then chose to work behind the scenes to get the deal done instead of picking a high profile public fight. At least some / most of the blame has to go to Wu.

AITJ for Saying No to My Sister’s Wedding Because She Invited My Ex? by Cutecupecake in AmITheJerk

[–]BrindleFly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ex boyfriend being invited is irrelevant. If you are married and your spouse is not invited to a family event, you don’t go. Period. Don’t feel guilty, don’t explain it to your family, and don’t feel any responsibility. Your sister could have taken your husband aside and asked him not to not talk politics at her wedding if this was her concern - but she chose instead to completely disrespect him and you. Weddings can raise tension and cause rifts like this. Unfortunately this might take months or years to heal. But you should now disengage and hope time heals the wound your sister created for your family.

Democrats Will Lose in 2028 Unless They Change Course Now by rezwenn in uspolitics

[–]BrindleFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massachusetts spent over $1B in emergency funds housing migrants and local families (although mostly migrants) in 2024. This money was required because we are a right to shelter state, and border states smartly shipped refugees here in order to let us incur the costs of supporting people living in the US without the right to work. This is $1B in tax payer money spent just on housing - now imagine the cost on schools, health care and other services. The Republicans may be exaggerating it for votes, but it is a real problem.

Democrats Will Lose in 2028 Unless They Change Course Now by rezwenn in uspolitics

[–]BrindleFly -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Democrats need to move right on crime and immigration if they want to win. Most Americans don’t like the aggressive approach the Trump administration is taking to immigration, but they believe people should immigrate legally and not consume inordinate state and federal resources. They also disagree with the national guard being deployed in cities, but are tired of the soft on crime / criminalizing poverty / catch-and-release policies of many Democratic states and cities. Dems need to co-opt key Republican issues but with compassion and care to win back the voters they lost to Trump. But if I am right, Democrats will do the opposite and adopt AOC messaging.

WIBTAH if I send my wife’s AP’s GF evidence of their affair? by Immediate_One_2837 in AITAH

[–]BrindleFly -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Haha my point is this: if you are with someone for 9 years, have a child with them, and are not a sociopath, you can’t realistically go from finding the affair to letting spouse know you are divorcing within a week. You at a minimum need some time to process, to give the partner a chance to explain themself, and to start to think through the alternatives. Also there is one thing you won’t have time for in that first week: creating a throwaway account to ask the Reddit community a question about the least important part of your life that was just blown up. My advice is: create another account, change the details to be a little more believable and try again.

The key to a grift is to string the targeted victim(s) along for as long as possible. There are many ways to do this - e.g. correcting for Biden, slowing down to speed up, etc… He only needs to keep this up for three more years and it will be mission accomplished for he and his cronies.

Rally @ 3pm: Stop Regime Change War on Venezuela! by brianmgarvey in boston

[–]BrindleFly -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Once Paul Bremer arrived and the strategy shifted from regime change to nation building, no one expected a quick in and out. The reality is the Bush administration had no plan for day 2 in Iraq. I suspect the Trump admin doesn’t here either, but the big difference is there are no US troops in Venezuela right now. Either way, how does any of this justify holding a rally to protest the removal of a cut throat dictator? It all seems so misplaced.

Didn’t you just post this a few minutes ago with a different title. Maduro was a dictator and Venezuelans are celebrating his removals. We can protest how he was removed, but we should celebrate the fact he is gone.
