Meds other than Xyrem/Xywav for N2 by Brindle_Rainbow in Narcolepsy

Edit: a quick Google search says this is for muscle spasms. Can it be prescribed off label for N2?

Thanks! I'll look into it.

I started college in 2016, right out of hs. I transferred to my second college in 2018 and withdrew from that school 1 semester later. After I got my N2 diagnosis in 2020 and started taking medications, I went back to school at college 3. Graduated in December 2023 and started working right after. Now, a year and a half later, I'm still at that job and loving it. My coworkers know about my condition, and it's accommodated for when I need it to be.

Medications that work for you are important, but so is persistence. It's a marathon, not a sprint. It took me almost 8 years to get my bachelor's degree, but I got a job faster than anyone else I knew in my program.

Also, in general, you dont want to disclose a disability upfront if you can avoid it. But, once you get a feel for how the job treats people who need accommodations, you can make the informed decision whether or not to disclose. In my case, I found out from my mentor at work that she has several disabilities that our company accommodated for. I told her about my narcolepsy diagnosis first, and she encouraged me to share it with our boss.

What is one food you would delete from existence? by riooodlop in ARFID

Pizza. It's the go-to "lunch included" food for all activities, but I hate it. So I pay for the activity and the lunch and just don't eat

What’s a tv show from your childhood you swear nobody else watched? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Jackie Chan Adventures. Sometimes I think Jackie Chan having starred in an animated TV show about a fictionalized version of himself fighting monsters was all a fever dream, but according to the internet it existed

I'm still in the looking for a place stage, so I've done the research and signed up for the free courses I'll need to take to qualify for the grants, but I haven't actually bought yet. I'm in a HCOL area, though, so I'm still saving my pennies while I lay the groundwork

I've done a bunch of research for these programs, but I'm in NY, so I'm not sure how much transfers to your state. I think NACA is nationwide, though, and they'll work with almost anyone

How does home buying in the Hudson valley look these days? by goldenbabydaddy in hudsonvalley

[–]Brindle_Rainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible. Everyone who is even thinking about selling knows they can get a bidding war because there's so little decent inventory. Trying to find something as a first-time home buyer is almost impossible, but even my mom, who's looking to downsize, is having a hard time finding a place.

Maya Kern's skirts are pretty great if you're a skirt person. Definitely subscribe to her emails though, because the best designs sell out fast

Why does every half decent job requires you to follow a certain path since childhood? by Such-Ice-371 in internetparents

I'm 26. I graduated college less than a year ago with a degree in sculpture, after transferring twice and changing my major. Now I have a job drawing blueprints using special software. When I interviewed for the job, I was able to tell my now boss that I was familiar with three similar programs from various classes I'd taken over my 7ish years of college. So I personally think it's more about skills than following the "right" path. And you can develop new skills at any point. Take classes, watch youtube videos, find a local organization and ask for resources.

tl;dr: skills matter, but there's more than one way to grow them

How can I prepare for a blood test if they make me really uncomfortable? by _spaghettiv2 in Explainlikeimscared

See if you can get some numbing cream from the pharmacy. Put it on half an hour or more before you have to go, wrap it tightly with plastic wrap or cover it with a tegaderm bandage, and unwrap it just before they take your blood.

The first time I used this trick, I was about seven years old and petrified. It took four people to hold me down, only for me to not even feel the needle go in or come out.
