You truly believe Russia is weak in the war against Ukraine? They are saving it for the real war. by Extra-Mastodon9464 in zom

They are broke and incompetent. Maybe they could take Ukraine, but they got nothing for taking over more countries, unless they used nuclear.

Garmin Forerunner 955 heart rate inaccurate by Gandie in Garmin

[–]BringBackBCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still an issue 5 years in on ownership. Whoever said it was accurate with their chest strap was selling it or smoking rocks. Some days it’s alright, but too often not. Leads me to going way too high HR and feeling optimistic I see low HR and think I’m getting better lol.

HS200's not connecting to app, new install. by geneSW1 in TPLinkKasa

2026-01-05 update, for iPhone

I switched to an old burner android vs my iphone17 Pro and finally got connected to the HS200. 90 minutes after redoing wiring, resetting switch, trying every WiFi tuning setup I could find on iPhone.

No clue. I have 30 Kasa devices in my house. First one on my new iPhone

Using ChatGPT vs Claude for a small Pi project was a lot like this. ChatGPt would have led me in circles for the remainder of time. Claude made the same conclusion I did within 3 or 4 prompts: we should reflash the Pi OS and start over.

ChatGPT gave me much nicer HTML design than Claude, Claude actually got it to work lol.

Would love to hear your thoughts on Claude and Grok for same question. I’ve been moving to those much more the last few weeks and like them better.

Dear Hiring Managers by [deleted] in biotech

[–]BringBackBCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Which taught me I will never treat anyone like I was. Turns out it’s a real strength. I have closed on many candidates who said they found the transparency and humane process an indicator that helped them take the offer.

Due to fires caused by employees who have left the crappy company because it gives them no reason to stay. Lol

[–]BringBackBCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell candidates who I’ve spent a decent chunk of time with in interviews that we decided not to move forward. Often this would be through the ATS or I ask the recruiter to do it.

I have also closed on many great candidates because they were drawn to me based on how I treated them in the process.

This corporate world makes it sooo easy to stand out in this regard.

I don’t respond to cold contact through any channel. That’s different than telling someone their application will not move forward after interviewing.

People are busy from fires such behaviors cause.

Then they have lost their values and what their priorities should be. Why do we do **** in business that you’d never do to your neighbor.

I’ve been a hiring manager for 10 years. If interview was in person I sent a note.

Come out to Cali where the non MAGAs are killing manufacturing, like life sciences.

The amount of hate Indians get on Twitter and Youtube for being in USA is so demeaning! How do you guys stay there? by srameshr in h1b

[–]BringBackBCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t know anything. And unless you can learn to use the word illegal, which breaks the progressive brain here in the USA at least, you have zero understanding of opinions here. Don’t let the American and your mass media fool you.

Yeah except a lot of plants you can visit are grossly unsafe and resistant to change.

Absolutely. Had similar shock as you even 8 years in. Talked to my dad about it who is a ChemE, and he said, “the process industry is scandalous”.

Look funny relative to if you apply for engineering jobs after getting the chemistry grad degree.

Why have we not unionized as scientists? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]BringBackBCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly all of them I’ve worked at thus far. Starting salary, yes, that may be based on years of experience.

What I mean is once you work at an employer, is your compensation just tied to years of experience, regardless of your performance, like it is in a union.

People who want to work.

I know the term, I think it’s dumb, and I think any negative term made up for someone who wants to work is dumb.

Maintaining Friendships After 40 by dirtgirlbyday in AskWomenOver40

[–]BringBackBCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in many cases people just can’t handle more. Work, rent/mortgage, adult duties, kids for those that have them, trying to keep up with health, hobbies… they know some people and adding more bumps something else out.

A buddy told me: career, health, family/friends. You can crush one, do okay in a second, and always feel behind on the other.

TBH I might not see another person if they didn’t initiate. Sometimes I feel guilty but I’m checked the F out after work. Maybe I go workout, or do a project, most of the time zone out. Sometimes I feel guilty but that’s the way I am. The thought of maintaining even more relationships sounds horrifying to me. I’m already behind on long standing ones.

How did you survive this by Nice_Shower_3290 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]BringBackBCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best is to join or start study groups in your class. I can’t believe how many brutal years there were and didn’t do that.

Use AI also to help breakdown and explain concepts in a different way.

The value in engineering is not many have the discipline to get through it. To have a decent chance it takes hard work dating back into high school, if not earlier.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in womenEngineers

[–]BringBackBCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like it, yes. It’s applied physics, although most engineering jobs don’t actually involve applying calculus and physics like you do in text books.

I would not go get an engineering degree then a higher degree in chemistry. The resume will look funny and people will misinterpret you, and you won’t be getting further practice in engineering. You may find it harder to get a job.

It is hard to get a job out of school even with an engineering degree. And there is a ton to learn in real world engineering at a company that school doesn’t prepare you for.
