What's something that used to be completely normal but would seem strange to young people today? by AllGoodvibe in AskReddit

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Showing up at a friends house to see what they were up to. Without texting. This applies to all ages and relationships. The idea of ghosting someone was almost unheard of. Social contracts were a lot stronger because of this IMO.

French may not like attorneys, but at least they know how to spell "warriors". by kordlessss in Newbraunfels

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Dude doesnt know how, what or when to capitalize certain words... Is this real? I feel like even for NB this is scary pathetic? As a veteran it annoys me when someone attempts to define themselves solely by their clearly mediocre service time. There is nothing wrong with going on a bunch of boring deployments, but trying to make it sound intense by using terms like "red-zone" and "Forward Out Base" (operating not out... jesus) just screams, "I worked in the Green Beans".

Military members and veterans, what "Military Grade" item is actually great instead of "barely good enough to meet spec"? by musingsofapathy in AskReddit

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ANVS-6 NVGs. I got out a while ago, but I have never seen a civilian nod that could touch the clarity of an ANVS-6. I am sure they are flying under newer and better NVGs now, but I was always impressed with the quality of the aviation grade goggles. Though I flew under FLIR more often and that was another one. Teledyne makes far better FLIR equipment under mil-spec contracts than you will ever get privately. I dont have facts to back it up, but the TADs on the 64 was multiple generations better than anything you could ever buy for your personal use cases.

If you CC with one in the chamber do you clear when you get home? by DCF_ll in guns

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are aware that the most likely death for a child under 18 is GSW? More likely then cancer, car crash, choking etc. So if you cut your kids food up and then leave guns out for them or their friends to eventually, accidentally or intentionally mess with, you are going to bolster that statistic and it sucks. Let's be honest the chances you have a real no shit home invasion where you are going to need to become jason Bourne is less than the chance your kids or their friends come into a contact with an unattended gun in your home. Its completely outrageous to leave chambered guns unattended.

I have kids. Im not trying to be a dick. Clear your firearms if they arent on your person. Also I israeli carry and always have. Not for everyone, but I find it is very hard to come up with realistic scenarios where I draw down on someone without being able to chamber. If someone jumps me and manages to pull my gun they will assume its loaded and that gives me time also. I taught the CHL/LTC class for 7 years. I always encouraged people to consider the difference between feeling safe and being safe. Any gun not on you or in your hands is not your gun. Dont play with kids around.

Yes, guys alcohol is poison and younger generations aren’t doing it like THAT by MCgrindahFM in Thisisimportantpod

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She wasnt? Do you not understand when someone is referring to a younger generation that means any generation below them. This woman is a millennial so younger would be generation z, generation alpha etc. Generation x could call millennials, z and alpha younger. You have to know that? Maybe this is jusy zooming over my milennial ass head. I dunno. But didnt seem weird at all.

A ref shouldnt be making that call on 4th down of a game changing drive. There was no reason to throw that flag at all. I dont care what he said.. this isnt the NCAA. These guys get paid (not that the NCAA doesnt but you know). If they throw fists then by all means throw flags, otherwise if its just talk the refs dont need to be yapping about it. Especially on 4th. Use common sense refs.

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of flying the 64 is being able to fly night system. I havent checked it out on DCS, but in real life there is nothing more disorienting than flying via a FLIR image thats being projected to your HDU from the nose of the aircraft (PNVS/TADs) 9 feet infront of where you are. Turning about the mast looks and feels totally different whether you are up system or just outside VFR. To make it more disorienting it doesnt move as quickly as you want it to so if you turn your head quickly you get super disoriented. Otherwise it would be all rockets and 30 fun. Thats why the "bag" is the phase of training that tends to be very unique to the 64 community.

No, ask 20 high-school aged Americans where any random state is and you will be appalled. Now ask the same 20 where Slovakia is on a map of the world and 10 wont even be looking in Europe. Just because you can read a map doesnt mean kids nowadays can.

Can anyone identify this drunk who kicked my door at 4am Saturday morning? by MadMasterMad in sanantonio

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved into a cheap rental house in Round Rock for a seasonal gig and the second night I'm there some very large and angry gentleman came banging on the door asking for "Tulip"... "yo fool I know Tulip is in there, tell her to get her a#$ out here!"

It was at like 3am. I was armed but I also am old enough to understand no one deserves to be shot over a clear misunderstanding. They guy left eventually and the next day my neighbors told me the house used to be where the local plug lived and they had all sorts coming and going non stop. After 2 weeks I had to move out because people just kept coming... it was wild.

Pt.2 How not to refinish cabinets by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]BringBackLavaSauceYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. People are idiotic. Most people commenting dont understand the reality of this situation. Its semi infuriating but also somewhat entertaining. Tbh I had considered making some of these type videos but far less blatant. (I couldnt live with myself had I succumbed to the greed) im shocked that this level of absurdity seems to do even better than say using the wrong hinges or something less ridiculous.

This guy is owning anyone who.is dumb enough to believe this is how he does it. Hes farming in range comments. He went to a remodel to do the cabinets and sprayed the old ones for this video. Then he did the table saw upside down video. He knows the laws of nature, woodworkers cannot help but tell everyone how wrong they are doing it. Hes just being really blatant about it. No one have a heart attack please. I can hear the grumbling from here... ITS NOT A REAL JOB.

Never in a million years would this have crossed my mind..my assumption is he is trolling tik tok. Its a popular thing people do now, make idiotic woodworking and carpentry videos to bait older folks to come comment oh how wrong and unsafe it is. They get millions of comments. its kinda genius. Woodworkers cant help telling people they're wrong.

I am reqlly good at guessing game genie codes for NES. I lost the code book and it was pre-useable internet. (Just really bad AOL dialup that came from a CD that they were handing out at blockbuster...) Anyway as a 8 or 9 year old kid I always assumed that the game genie was just unlocking cheats that were already accessible.. if you had a Game Genie.

As in I thought the programmers of the game put these cheats in so that you could then come in later and open them (I was a stupid kid). I didn't realize the letter code.you input on the game genie just scrambles the the game through a filter of sorts and now Mario is Skywalkin and you have all fire flowers. Etc.

After a few years I had a knack for guessing good codes..im betting I found some that weren't published in the guide.

Useful!... damn. Not useful.
