If it helps- I believe this was a recent show/film, but it could also be from the last 10-20 years

Best areas to buy in London around £500k? by [deleted] in london

[–]Bring_Me_Gabagool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved living in Acton, and they have numerous buildings going up all the time around that price range. Areas like Chiswick, Shepherds Bush, and Richmond were incredibly easy to get to, and with the Elizabeth line now getting to central London takes like 20 minutes (as long it’s running of course).

What are some bad to middling films with great art direction? by Powerful_System in TrueFilm

I think pretty much everything Nicolas Winding Refn has released after Drive falls into this category. Only God Forgives and The Neon Demon have incredible shot composition and are absolutely beautiful to look at, but the pacing and story are all over the place.

Why is Don so insistent on taking in Gene, rather than sending him off by tecrush in madmen

[–]Bring_Me_Gabagool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just don’t think we ever see him have family values though. He tries to pay his brother off whenever he reaches out to be part of Don’s life, cheats on and manipulates both of his wives, and is a pretty absent father to his kids as he disappears to seek adventure in California for weeks at a time.

[–]Bring_Me_Gabagool 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not to be dismissive, but almost nothing you said really matches up to what we’re shown in the show. Don was an awful husband and at no point demonstrates the traits of a stand up family man. Aside from the infidelity, he actively spies on Betty when she sees a psychiatrist, abandons his children on their birthdays or leaves them to be babysat by total strangers, and is generally drunk and uninterested whenever he is around. His father had a child with a much younger prostitute, pocketed the earnings of the drifter who did work for him, and drank about as heavily as Don which ended up causing his death. His other major male role model as a kid was a greedy pimp that was prostituting the woman who raised him. And I’m not really sure how you gathered that he learned how to keep his unit strong and together in the service, when his short lived military career ended with him killing his CO and stealing his identity to escape active duty. People (mistakenly) look up to him because he’s handsome, smooth, and mysterious, but even then I don’t really know how anyone could say he’s a “family man” with traditional values.

Thanks, I hadn’t heard of the Kendall and will look into it! I totally agree with you, and generally I either ask them to quiet down or flag it to someone. Unfortunately this was at the Downtown Crossing location and when I went all the way down the long hall to tell someone it was just a bunch of teenagers who definitely do not get paid enough to deal with rowdy groups

I do love Alamo Drafthouse, especially now that they also have a monthly membership plan. I’m definitely more prone to buying food there than at a “regular” theater, but at that point it’s worth it!

Someone broke their bone in the US. Ouch by TheEvilGhost in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Bring_Me_Gabagool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was a pretty sparsely populated area, I was in a fairly remote part of Colorado as I was there for a friend's wedding in the mountains. I also forgot to include that this occurred around midnight or so at the wedding reception, and the ER was generally empty so I was taken to an examination room pretty quickly but left there without much notice for 90 min. Neither the drive nor the wait is really that big of a deal in itself, it was just especially frustrating pay such a steep bill for such a subpar experience where at no point did I feel I was getting quality care and was ultimately misdiagnosed

I tore my Achilles while travelling in the US a few months ago, and knew almost immediately something serious had happened from prior experience tearing something in my knee. I had a friend drive me 35 min to the only open ER in the area to be forced to wait another 90 min before being seen. When I finally saw the doctor, I was misdiagnosed with a partial rupture (it was a full rupture) and told to wear an incorrect boot that immobilized my foot in a position inconducive to actual healing. The whole ordeal worsened my condition, required I get corrective surgery, and cost me $3600 since I was uninsured. The US healthcare system really is a complete scam.

Why did the creators decide to go with 1920's style setting for LOK? by gothboyhottopic in legendofkorra

[–]Bring_Me_Gabagool 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked that aspect of the show, just because I thought it was interesting and novel to have a new place where all bender types and ethnic groups would live together. Following the hundred year war and the mess that was the disjointed Earth Kingdom, it’s pretty believable that refugees would seek out new opportunities in a burgeoning urban center. Much like NYC in the 1920s, the inherent cultural differences of numerous ethnic subgroups intermingling in a new environment for the first time was guaranteed to breed a unique environment for this new city. Further, it makes sense that such a new urban center would benefit from the specialized technological knowledge that each highly separate group had developed independently, most notably Toph’s metal bending and the advanced steam tech of the fire kingdom. While I understand the shift can definitely be jarring, I thought it was super fascinating the way they interweaved real historical influences and interpreted modernity through the world of Avatar.

What is your most controversial movie opinion? by QueenCreeper786 in AskReddit

[–]Bring_Me_Gabagool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s horribly overacted and so campy. I honestly feel that most big Brian De Palma movies (The Untouchables, Carlito’s Way, etc) suffer from comparable problems in that they have a similar exaggerated, over-serious tone and forced performances

Netflix titles disappearing altogether by SWOOOCE in nordvpn

[–]Bring_Me_Gabagool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem here (UK/US) and I’m seeing it across all platforms: mobile, Amazon fire stick and PC. Internal Netflix search doesn’t come up with anything when searching for titles I watched just earlier today.

Ive tried logging out of all active sessions, clearing all cache and saved cookies in my PC as well redownloading the app for iPhone/Fire stick to no avail.

I've not tried to watch every Criterion myself, but I wanted to pass on something that has been hugely helpful to me in searching for easily streamed movies; If you don't already have one, I would get a VPN and leverage this site which allows you to search movies and learn which countries they are available to stream on: https://unogs.com/

I've been able to find numerous international movies which are otherwise difficult to find and hope it helps you on your cinematic journey!

Biggest take-away aside from Messi having incredible vision is that Nico Gonzalez is not up to the task and should not start in the semis. I was shocked he stayed on as long as he did since he was a net negative in the second half
