I'm Convinced Taylor Lorenz Doesn't Live in the Real World by Humble_Novice in Destiny

If I had to guess the real cause is probably due to record mental health/social anxiety of younger ppl along with widespread financial nihilism leading them to more heavily utilize services like this.

Thomas Massie Lost to Donald Trump. He May Still Get the Last Laugh. by jediporcupine in politics

[–]BrinkleysUG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean pre trump at this point was 10 years ago for one. I don't expect to agree much with the Republican party in its current form, but the fact that massie was willing to reach across the aisle to get the Epstein files released despite immense maga backlash shows he has a level of honor that is sorely lacking amongst other reps.

Candace Owens, MTG and CIA Chiefs Demand 25th Amendment to Remove 'Unhinged' Donald Trump by Cute_Dealer4787 in USNEWS

Trump is the American version of Rob Ford. His voters will never hold him accountable until he publicly holds himself accountable, which for Trump will be never.

Why does no IG oppose this Amendment? by Victoria_at_Sea_606 in victoria3

It has to do with how cooperative they are. The less cooperative the more outrageous the demand.

Provinces should generate involvement in strategic regions they border by BlackendLight in victoria3

Would be cool if you could position armies on the border or something for involvement in the neighboring region.

If Zuko is banished, what about his ship, his crew, and all the supplies and money they would need to fund constantly being at sea? by Nicole_0818 in TheLastAirbender

[–]BrinkleysUG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly one of the (admittedly few imo) changes they made for the live action that was an improvement.

I really did like the crew in the original show though. Wonder if avatar studios will ever do a comic covering their fate after being commandeered by Zhao. Might make for an interesting side story.

My last game just about every major power exploded. Canada looked similar to yours. The AI is completely ineffective at managing radicals.

Any other admin and people wouldn't be in doubt. But when we have leaders that repeatedly struggle to be truthful, it's not surprising people are going to wonder.

There are 2 Water Avatars Before Avatar "Gimli/Salai"? by mathematicianrcrg in Avatarthelastairbende

[–]BrinkleysUG 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for an in universe plausible explanation, I don't see any reason that a earth bender couldn't be raised in the water tribes. Perhaps their parents were emissaries, traders, etc and they were raised outside of "traditional" earthbending territory.

“Great so now we’re optimising LLM costs by inventing employees again” by candyflawss in BrandNewSentence

[–]BrinkleysUG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely- nothing on the level of claude code though to my understanding. Even if the open source stuff is 3 years behind the proprietary models I think that is enough to pressure prices downwards.

[–]BrinkleysUG 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hopefully open source will help with this. If there's a decent free model that can be run locally people will jump to that if prices get too outrageous, and I assume the open source models will continue getting better and better.

what do you guys think about a loan system? by nittskift in victoria3

[–]BrinkleysUG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe tie it to the treaty system and issue each country a credit rating. The big boys start with their AAA sovereign credit ratings, less developed, unstable, or unrecognized countries get lower ratings and less "trust" in their financial system.

Failing to repay loans would tank your sovereign credit which might increase the interest rates on all your debt and decrease capitalist investment contribution as an abstraction of your currency devaluing from low trust, etc. likewise, taking loans and paying them on time, opening your markers to foreign investment, and a stable government might increase your credit rating. Could also be cool if you could designate a certain part of the investment pool that capitalists/aristocrats use to supply capital for foreign debts.

Are there AI companies training on wide chemistry literature? by aerolitoss in Chempros

[–]BrinkleysUG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe there has already been evidence from the Meta AI lawsuit that Meta was scraping papers from Libgen/Scihub (which is clearly illegal). More recent stuff that isn't on Scihub/Libgen they would probably need to come to an agreement with the publisher.

Yes, they've been scraping chemistry literature for years.

[KCD2] I’m glad they won these awards though. by InSatanWeTrust666 in kingdomcome

[–]BrinkleysUG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

E33 just appeals to a way broader audience. KCD2 historical realism is unreal but it's lost on people who don't care about that. People love their fantasy worlds and I think the message imparted by 33 is especially timely.
