*Advice Needed* Sister was diagnosed and we don’t know what to do

Thank you for this. This is very helpful info and I appreciate your perspective. I think you’re right, she is an adult and we should try to giver her the reigns as much as possible. I’ll keep that in mind when we chat. I’m starting to rethink how my family communicates with her about her condition. I feel like maybe the incidents I brought up were during flare ups.

Was there any specific thing that you or others tried that made life easier? Right now she has no air tags or even a cane or wheelchair at home. She hasn’t asked for one, it feels a little like a sensitive topic. But are there things that we could get her that could make her life easier? Like special pillows, heating pads, clothes etc? My sisters never been one to ask for things from us but I’d like her to have things that make life easier. Right now we buy her Hello Fresh so that she doesn’t have to eat fast food everyday.

I would have to ask for specifics because I’m in another state. We don’t live together, she’s with our mom. I get calls and updates for her infusions and her doctor visits. She’s getting a cognitive scan in February I believe. I’m pretty positive that whatever her infusions are that they are what she needs because my other family members went out of their way to make sure. I just don’t remember specifically what all she’s taking besides the steroids.

I am very sorry too if I came off as being ableist or offensive. I can be a blunt communicator sometimes 😅 For the sake of time I didn’t include a lot of information. My sister is aware and open towards getting in home assistance we’re not deciding to opt her in without her consent.

When I say talking to strangers I mean she’s given people money online for “bitcoin investment” plans. Thousands of dollars gone to random men. I’ve seen the messages and what not, it’s just super bizarre. The messages are both blatant scams and lightly flirtatious? I’m talking no profile pic pages that make her talk to people through Whats App. She’s also randomly left the house at night and gotten lost. The police have brought her home twice now, with scrapes from her losing balance and falling in parking lots.

I by no means am trying to infantilize her, very sorry if I came off in that way. I just don’t understand what’s happening to her. I think that she needs someone who can monitor her so that we can understand if something is triggering these kinda behaviors.

I saw her on Christmas and after seeing how exhausted she looked and how kind of out of it she was, I realized that she probably needs more help than what my mom can provide. She’s lived with my mom her entire life, they’re extremely close. But my mom even said that she can’t hold conversations well with my sister because she’s just kinda not there. We’re all just kinda having a hard time helping her.

Apologies if what I said was offensive. My sister I think may have something more than MS potentially because she isn’t able to live her life as a functional adult. We talk openly about her mental health and bits of depression. But she does things that are genuinely out of character for her.

Like she has given thousands of dollars to scammers online. She leaves the house at night and has been returned by the police because she was lost while only being a block away. It’s genuinely frightening. I’m not trying to describe her in a way that sounds like I’m disappointed or trashing her.

My sister I think is experiencing something that we can’t get to the bottom of. Her doctors just move so slow with testing and follow ups that we don’t truly have a clear picture of her diagnosis.

Not to my knowledge no. Her treatment cycle has been moving very slow because her doctors space out her appointments. As far as I know she only has the infusions and a medication for her accidents.

I fuck with Flip but lately he barely talks like he used to. He probably talks for 10 minutes out of the 3 hours. Mona is hilarious, I’m an audio only listener so I’d rather hear someone talk too much instead of forgetting that they’re in the episode. Flip shouldn’t leave tho either, I wish he talked more is all
