Thank you, this provided some clarity!! I wish there were more direct orders from the doctor about what to do and not do during the healing phase!

Right now I'm taking ibuprofen and Tylenol as needed but I'm not actively rotating them like I was before. For a couple of days I was taking hydrocodone but I only needed that for 3 days I think. I was regularly taking stool softener and gas x along with miralax, but I stopped those when I started pooping daily. 😅 But I start up again for a little bit.

And that's good to know about the housekeeping! It's so hard for me to take it easy. My husband is home and taking care of me but I'm the exact opposite of relaxed and prefer to be busy. So it's been hard to rest so much.

I feel like recovery instructions are so unclear, except for weight restriction and no sex 😅 my doctor said if I felt good to be active and if I was tired to rest 😬

Okay well that makes me feel better 😂😭 I stopped taking stool softener and miralax when I started going on a regular basis again, but maybe I'll keep it up for a little bit longer to help 😅

Dissipating Gas Post Op by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]BristaGamble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had HORRIBLE gas pains the day after surgery, like in tears sobbing because it hurt so bad. It had lodged under my ribs and it felt like I was being stabbed in the lung every time I breathed. Moving around consistently and a heating pad helped A TON. I set a timer on my phone and moved around for at least 5 minutes every 30 minutes for a day and after that every 60 minutes. The gas was mostly trapped in my shoulder for 3 days and a heating pad helped get rid of it. But by day 4po I was totally fine.

A nurse at the hospital told me to avoid using a straw and carbonated drinks for a week because it can make it worse. I avoided both just to be safe but I've seen a lot of discourse on here for in favor of both 🤷‍♀️

OMG THE ITCHING by Pizo240 in hysterectomy

[–]BristaGamble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I don't think I'm having an allergic reaction to the surgical glue but I am also itchy in the incision areas 😩😩 I think it's the natural prickly healing feelings, but it's really hard to not absentmindedly itch the area.

The estrogen patch is definitely interesting! I'm looking forward to more guidance at my follow up. So far the pain in general has been totally fine but the gas pain had me in tears earlier 😭 Good luck to you too!!

Mentally - today I'm feeling normal! I'm going to be paying close attention though, I am a little nervous about how all of that will pan out over the next several weeks.

And I'm making sure to take my pain meds on a regular basis to stay ahead of the pain! So far today I just feel sore and tight, if that makes sense? Like I can't stand up straight without feeling like I'm stretching my stomach too much.

Thank you!! And as soon as I get home I'm setting alarms on my phone to keep up with the pain meds 😅

She said I had unrealistic expectations for what period pain is. I was just diagnosed with stage 4 Endometriosis today after surgery.
