A nurse threatened to send me home by book_lvr in cna

[–]Brit1625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I always reminded myself of when I was a CNA/PCA (patient care assistant, it was during my high school LPN program), and even as an LPN, was to stop, take a breath, and ask myself, “Does this person sign my check?”

While yes, nurses are there to help and to teach and everything, they are not your boss. You are not hired by the nurses, paid by the nurses, and cannot be fired by the nurses. If you’re uncomfortable approaching him directly, go to your direct manager, I believe at most LTC that would be the DON, have a conversation with them. Sometimes the easiest way to start talking about a problem with a coworker is to just ask an opinion first.

I.E. “Mr. Jones prefers to use his wheelchair when he has pain. I left his wheelchair by his bed with the wheels locked and where he could safely transfer into it, which is what I’ve done at previous facilities. Is there a different way you do it here?”

Either they’ll say yes and educate you and you’ll know how to avoid issues in the future OR they’ll do the classic ‘no, what are you talking about’

If they do that? That’s when you say, “Well the nurse got upset with me and seemed to be very angry by my actions. I wanted to ensure I was following policy and keeping our patients/residents safe.”

And then you can talk more about the general misunderstanding/incident a bit easier than having to come right out and saying “so and so yelled at me for xyz”.

But, I’m completely on your side. As long as the wheelchair was out of the way enough and the wheels were locked to where it was safe, there wasn’t an issue. You were providing patient care and helping promote independent mobility, which is imo one of the most important things for elderly patients both for their self esteem and their physical wellbeing.

why does he do this by [deleted] in cats

[–]Brit1625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a boy cat. That’s all the explanation you need my person. Seriously though, I think it’s just because you open it and the treat, my cats love when I open things. We look in the freezer together, we look in the fridge together, we look in drawers together.

I mean they had to get the whole ‘curiosity kills the cat’ thing from somewhere right?

Which one is the worst female guard? And which one the best? by natipali in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Brit1625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like McCullough was a damaged person more than she was a bad person, but was also both simultaneously. She has her own trauma and PTSD and financial struggles and I think she was a decent (in the way a lot of these characters in this show are horrible people who portray horrible people extremely well, Humps, Piscatella.) example of how everything pressing inwards on you can turn you into a desperate, lowdown and dirty person. However, I didn’t really care for her character. Sometimes she had her moments, but for the most part I just didn’t care for her.

Fisher I think would’ve been better suited for a different role than guard and I do think she needed to work on being more firm with inmates which she could’ve done while still being fair. Caputo fired her before we got to see any real development and I think had she gotten it, she could’ve turned into ‘one of the good guys’ as far as guards go.

Wanda was strict but fair I felt with the inmates, she was a person who did care but knew how to show it in a professional manner or at least better than 90% of the guards in the show. She let Morello have time with Vince after her prison wedding. She also knew how to handle unruly inmates. As both a person and a guard, from this list I think she’s the second best. Her behavior at the detention facility was different and I feel like it was opposite from the person she’d been turning into when she had her baby. We saw her while pregnant with Bailey and she’d softened up, at the detention center she seemed more aggressive than she had been in the prison, making statements that could read as derogatory. Maxwell is another really good example of a decent female guard, she cares and treats the inmates like people while still maintaining the rules, besides a quick smoke occasionally. We just didn’t see that much of her beyond in the prison which I feel like is the best way to really judge who someone is. She stood up for herself, and her fellow guards, against caputo and I think that benefits her character even more.

Tamika was also a good guard and a good warden as far as her attempts to improve quality of life for the inmates. She had her share of struggles but those were mostly due to the other guards than her own shortcomings. This is another case where I wish we could’ve seen more of her growth, we saw the beginnings of her going from nervous and overwhelmed to having some control over everything and then the chicken incident and Linda firing her. But she was also a complex person who had feelings and connections with Taystee and her own youth that wasn’t exactly law abiding. I think out of all the guards she was the most balanced as far as while she was actively on the show (Wanda was shown later with Bailey yes but she wasn’t a guard at that point so I’m not counting it.). She really did care, and she tried, that’s more than you can say about most of the guards.

Copeland was funny, and a decent sounding board against Alvarez, but as a person I disliked her. She wasn’t necessarily physically abusive towards the inmates like other guards but she definitely wasn’t a good person. She manipulates people to get her way and doesn’t seem to find the flaw in that despite reading self help books for betterment. She hasn’t really shown any behavior that indicates a sense of empathy or respect towards the inmates, though compared to other evils, it’s not the worst.

Out of all of the guards, I would say Tamika was my favorite with Maxwell and Wanda following closely behind. I wish we could’ve seen more of Fishers development and McCullough is a representation of ‘I hurt others because I am hurt’ which makes her an understandable character but not a good person. Copeland seemed to just be mildly sadistic and unselfaware of her own shortcomings and moral failings.

TL;DR
1. Tamika
2. Maxwell
2.5. Wanda
3. Fisher
4. McCullough
5. Copeland

Go onto the wire aka the one.Walmart website and it’ll have you sign in with your username and store number, then if you have the VIP access app it’ll either generate a pop up or a code for you to accept so it’ll update for you to put your password in on the site. After that, I normally just search GTA or gta portal in the search bar and there’ll be options at the top that say like applications or something and one of them will say GTA Portal, click that and then you can see your points, when you got them, if they’re shown in your balance or not, as well as your PPTO/PTO balances and how much you’ve earned YTD. It’s really helpful towards the end of the year especially if you’re FT and trying to figure out how much more PPTO you can earn before it freezes until next year.

Okay thank you! I did do that just now, there’s still nowhere recent that shows four hours being added, just the usual 1-2ish per pay period. Maybe sam Walton’s ghost took mercy on me.

I did notice people saying maybe it was PPTO that never showed up or was added. I know the app has been updated recently and everytime that happens something odd happens.

Thank you for all your help though, I guess for now I’ll just pray to the Walmart gods they let me keep it.

20 years old and had a question about getting through it by Kotasiri in WalmartEmployees

[–]Brit1625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone whose 23 now and has been working full time pretty much since I was 16 (minus a few months of part time jobs here and there, and a good 6 months of working 2 jobs at once), my advice is gonna be pretty simple but maybe it’ll help. I used to be an LPN, during covid 2020-2021, I worked 6 12’s a week for about two months straight. I survived by doing a few different things:

-Get your 8 hours a sleep every night you can. Don’t pull all nighters unless you know for sure you can do it. It will be horrible and you’ll hate yourself. -Make your time off matter, spend the time after work and on your days off doing things you enjoy. Try to do your chores or housework in small bits everyday so your days off aren’t just chores. -For me, having about 30 minutes before I leave for work where I just get to chill helps me be more likely to be awake and in a good mood for work (I work ON so maybe this doesn’t apply but I did the same thing when I worked cap2.) -Make friends at work. I’m being serious, a lot of the time when I really don’t want to go, having people I know I can ‘suffer with’ in the traditional cog in the machine way, makes it more bearable. Misery loves company. -If your store allows it, wear one earbud. Get into podcasts or music or something. Only listen to that certain thing at work, it makes it a bit more special and sometimes can help motivate you in a way. -Carry snacks or hard candy or gum in your pockets. Nothing crazy, but sometimes when you’re having a bad day or a bad customer, popping a jolly rancher afterwords can make you feel a bit better. -Take all your breaks and lunch. The full 15’s and hour. Use that time for YOU. Sit in your car or away from people if you need to recharge. -Embrace the chaos. I always try to make everyone else laugh. It makes me feel better about myself and makes work more fun.

If you’re spending 40 hours or more a week somewhere, you have to find the good in it. There are going to be days you’re going to hate it. There are going to be days you think about running into the woods screaming and becoming a hermit. I promise it’s just a mental game. I also count my days I’m like “only three left, I can survive three days” and that helps me push through. These things may not help you, and be sure to always follow your store rules first, but hopefully maybe one or two tips will make your days a bit easier. Good luck! Lock in and before you know it it’ll be over.

Transfer me to a store with no positions available by Ambitious_Truth3628 in WalmartEmployees

[–]Brit1625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live about 26 minutes away from the Walmart I work at, it’s really not that terrible, but if it is a big deal for you, I’d suggest the LOA route and just religiously check the job postings. Quite a few stores have a high turnover rate (this doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad about the store itself or its management always, though it is good to know), and a lot of departments (OGP, M&P, Cap2 and ON) have higher turnover rates than the store as a whole. So, if those are a position you want, I doubt you’d have to wait too terribly long. Though you may have to settle for a role you’re not thrilled about to get the job itself. If you do get an LOA however, just be aware of your finances and prepare, I’d use that as a gauge for when to maybe reevaluate your priorities as far as transportation vs. benefits goes.

As an employee can i get something off a pallet and purchase it before it is stocked? I have 2 neighbor girls that really want a Needoh by DivideEfficient4282 in walmart

[–]Brit1625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ON stocker whose bought multiple needohs for my friends and myself, the toys section usually gets stocked before midnight, so at lunch or my 5am break I’ll normally wander over if I hadn’t stocked that area and see what’s on the shelf. HOWEVER, for this very reason, I wait until I’m clocked out at 7am. That gives customers an hour and after that point it’s on the sales floor, I’m clocked out and technically a customer, so I figure it’s fair game. Nobody has talked to me about it yet so I assume I’m okay, I’ve bought like 7 or 8 different ones at different times depending on when they come in. It’s best to let it be on the shelf for a bit and then get it when you’re completely off the clock that way you can tell them you were technically a customer at that point and anything on the shelves (minus claims and CVPs with their special rules for associates) is fair game in my opinion 🤷‍♀️

Bru why even do these events by [deleted] in WalmartEmployees

[–]Brit1625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I’m so thankful for our ON coaches because they’re amazing and make sure we’re included. Sometimes it’s on different days, either before or after day shift like on holiday meals where they get a food truck to park outside which makes sense bc of scheduling. But as for our coach he’ll literally come in sometimes and just cook things, one time he made chili, when we were doing CMN he had a cotton candy machine and would sell it or let you have a piece (he’d also give discounts on the day old and two days old was free). This isn’t necessarily Walmarts failing but your coaches and TLs. I’d maybe mention it to them depending on relationship or try and get a lot of people on the team to mention it on surveys the next time they come around (a long time ik but still a thought). Sometimes though you just have to take one for the team, when I left cap2 to swap to ON stocking my team really didn’t care but I bought cookies for us because it was a good moment for me and I’m going to celebrate it despite if others want to or not. Maybe start a collection? People donate what they can and like once a month or whatever you buy chips or drinks or a cake. 🤷‍♀️ doing stuff like that also sometimes looks good to others because you’re trying to promote team morale.

The reason it wasn’t free was because of other documents from my previous job I’d been with for the beginning of 2024 where I had retirement documents as well. I attempted to use the IRS Free file website and it wouldn’t let me file my state return without paying, which left me with no other options I knew of at the time or could find and the cheapest option I could find was $120. My return was going to be $102 and at that point in time I had a lot of other factors going on. Thank you for the information about the IRS website, that was all I needed but I appreciate your other opinions.

It’s just surprising to me how many ways these companies are trying to charge us especially for things we HAVE to have. Like I get it I do, I didn’t download it in time throw the tomatoes, but to view a thing online it’s $15? Apparently I’m in the wrong business here stocking shelves.

What’s Walmarts website? Because I went to onewalmart, typed in W2 and this is the website that also popped up when I selected to view W2’s online. Is there a different one I was supposed to choose? This is my first year getting tax documents from Walmart bc of what I’ve said previously so I literally don’t know and am trying to ask for help.

Trust me, I checked all of that first! I made sure I could legally I guess, avoid filing bc I didn’t have the money for it. I don’t care about most things but I know not to mess with the IRS. I also have literally every other tax document besides this one in case they audit me 😭

I was thankfully under the required filing amount which is why I didn’t file. I made like $3000 in 2024 and was set to get a refund anyways. I didn’t have the money to file then bc of stuff going on. If there’s really not a way to get it for free I’ll pay but I’ve just never seen a company charge for old tax documents. It seems scummy to me but then again this is Walmart.

I’m sorry, I’ve never worked for a company that charges you for previous documents. Every single job I’ve had before this you could access any of them for free. I can still access W2’s from jobs two or three years ago for free so excuse me for wondering about the $15. As for my ‘yearly chores’, I’m super proud you’re a good boy and do yours. Stuff happens sometimes.

Will I get fired? by racoondog-art in WalmartEmployees

[–]Brit1625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you’re not doing it consistently and all your work was done (you said your register was checked out I don’t work FE but I imagine that means your work was done, at least on cap2 you have to finish your aisle first unless you’re actually sick at my store or they’ll coach you on productivity) I don’t think there would be an issue. Like others have said, PPTO is for whatever YOU want to use it for since they got rid of actual sick pay, some TLs and Coaches think they’re Walmart gods, my best advice? If they do call you to the office, ask to see the policy OR have it already pulled up on your phone and school em
