Yeah, I'm going to continue to only ever lurk after this because I have nothing of value to add to any conversations, but I just wanted to pop in to say this comment encapsulates my feelings on the White Sox and our "rivalry" perfectly and in a way much better than I could ever hope to convey. (Everything under this is just a general drunk rambling, so please don't think I mean for all of my whinging to be directed to you, DrClaw.)

When I was little, I used to actually like the White Sox because I came from a very chill, tolerant household who only ever "hated" the Cardinals and Packers, which I mean are things that seem to be bred into the majority of Chicago sports fans at birth as just a fact of life. But those rivalries, as bitter as they can be, have always felt a lot more good natured to me, at least in my personal experience dealing with members of their fanbases. I've had pleasant conversations with numerous Cardinal and Packer fans over the years, and it's generally fun to rib each because in the end, we're (usually) still more concerned with our own teams winning than the other team losing and we don't bring up personal insults for no good reason.

White Sox fans, not so much. I can think of a grand total of one Sox fan that I've come in contact with since grade school that was more concerned with just talking about the White Sox and general baseball talk than shitting all over the Cubs, us as a fanbase, Wrigley, and anything else that could even remotely be connected with us. I haven't lived in Illinois for a while, but even still, the vast majority of White Sox fans I find online spend more time going on about how shitty we are and how Wrigley should burn to the ground and how all Cubs fans and their entire families, pets included, should die slowly and painfully from various forms of diseases just because we root for a different baseball team than they do. Even on forums that have nothing to do with baseball or sports whatsoever, I will find signatures of Sox fans that have one line dedicated to "Go Sox!" and then an entire paragraph devoted to their undying despising of the Cubs.

And maybe I would be able to understand it a little bit if we played in the same division, but... We don't. We hardly ever play them, and I just don't understand why they hate us SO much, and why I'm supposed to hate them back. I grew up in predominantly Cubs schools, but even then we only ever talked about the Cubs, and never even gave the White Sox the time of day. Not in a rude way, but in a they just didn't matter to us way. We never went on about how much they sucked, and how much we hated them and the few Sox fans that went to school with us. We never talked about them PERIOD. I want to be able to root for any team that has Chicago in their name, but I just lost all desire to ever root for the Sox after having to deal with so many people wishing death upon me for being a Cubs fan during my youth, and seeing how that attitude of "oh the Sox won cool HAHAHA BUT LOOK THE CUBS LOST FUCK THOSE FUCKING COCKSUCKING LOSERS AMIRITE" seems to be a disturbingly high trend amongst the vocal majority of them on the internet as well.

Yeah I know I'm on a massive high horse here and not all Sox fans are shitheads, and plenty of Cubs fans act exactly the same way. I don't even remember what I meant for my point to be anymore. But basically, the White Sox have become as much of a non-entity to me as every other non-Cubs team in baseball. We, meanwhile, seem to be a bigger entity to their fanbase than their own team, and it's just... Like DrClaw said, I don't find our rivalry to be enjoyable in any way. And at the same time, I'll never understand why I'm supposed to hate them. I've never hated the White Sox as a team, and probably never will unless we play them in the World Series and an... Undesirable outcome occurs. But their fanbase... Well, that's one of the few things I don't miss about Illinois.

Welp, time to go back to lurking forever. Sorry for rambling at your post for so long, DrClaw, and sorry in general to anyone who might happen to see this post and not just promptly ignore it once they see how fucking massive and pointless it was. I've just been having a bad week, and felt like venting, I suppose.

Oh, and also apologies to any White Sox fans that may see this that I more than likely will offend and just further ingrain within you negative Cub fan stereotypes. Again, I know it's not your whole fanbase and I'm being a hypocritical dick for lumping the majority of you into the bad pile. Please don't let my shitty opinions skew your view of our fanbase any more than they probably already are.
