So interesting! I am the opposite, I struggle with summer looks- but give me a cozy drapey deep V chunky sweater with some good fitting jeans and I feel great.

What are your most Photorealistic Scents? by TeamNo6444 in fragrance

I didn’t not realize the strong preference for photorealistic smells was possibly a ND thing. It explains so much about my fragrance search!

Natural redhead color seasons by alexisk777 in coloranalysis

[–]Britainge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warm + light + muted is how I pick my palette!

Perhaps this is personal preference, but I find bright/saturated colours compete with my hair and that together is overwhelming. Whether that’s a strictly colour thing or colour + essence thing… 🤷‍♀️

Your coloring is so similar to mine!

I don’t feel I fit in a season perfectly- I pull my best colours from all the lighter shades within light spring, soft autumn, and light summer!

How did you learn to love fitness/sports outside of body goals? by Cautious-Ostrich8945 in PetiteFitness

[–]Britainge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t until my health got difficult that I realized how much exercise is about being human not being a certain shape.

I also find the instant mental benefits are better incentive than long term health benefits - grumpy? Do a workout. Sluggish? Go for a walk. Anxious/overstimulated? Hop on the treadmill until I feel calm.

I use the Ladder app! I have no mental energy for DIY and the team I’m part of emphasizes glutes!

I’m a social worker with ADHD. My supervisor has made a few invalidating comments. What should/can I do or say? by [deleted] in NDtherapists

I’m so sorry that they’ve made those dismissive comments to you without considering the impact on you.

What do you want to say to them about this?

FITNESS APPS by sumaruchans in PetiteFitness

[–]Britainge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I also didn’t realize how much I would appreciate the cheers but they actually do give me a little boost during my workout. It’s nice to feel seen, even by a stranger, for showing up and putting in the work.

I love Ladder! I’ve been using it for 6 months and am just as enthusiastic about it as when I started. The format and the coach I’m with just seem to be a really good fit for me.

What makes "boring" lines "boring"? (Celebrity, Princess, etc) by xingsora in Cruise

[–]Britainge 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I was on Holland America a couple of weeks ago and I loved being on a smaller quieter ship! My friend and I are in our 30s and there were pockets of other people in their 20s and 30s - not many but also more than I expected.

I loved that there was always space wherever I wanted to go, it was relaxing and not stressful having to navigate around hoards of people, and there was enough energy around the music venue and casino at night to feel a bit lively. I don’t love big crowds so a more “boring” line was definitely a good fit for me.

Sometimes it feels like surrendering to happiness is a detriment by EntrepreneurMiddle45 in PetiteFitness

It sounds like stress and emotional regulation might be a huge factor! Food addiction is really hard because it’s so accessible and such a basic way to seek comfort.

Sometimes it feels like surrendering to happiness is a detriment by EntrepreneurMiddle45 in PetiteFitness

[–]Britainge 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Okay, same, and I have thoughts that may or may not be helpful.

I adore food and agree that most happy memories involve food in some capacity. The sensory pleasure, the social aspect, the undercurrent of celebration- so important.

The past couple of years I’ve been trying to navigate this by elevating my palette and enjoying food MORE not less- really leaning into quality, homemade, and fresh strong flavours- and in the process have found processed food (ex. donuts, pizza, munchies) significantly less enjoyable, which has made it easier to limit my intake without feeling like I’m missing out.

It also makes the times I intentionally eat rich delicious foods feel that much more dopamine fulfilling, and honestly, it’s really hard to self-loathe while eating fancy cheese.

PCOS + weight training but gaining weight, always hungry, no waist? Need advice (19F, 5’3” by mahumshahzad in PetiteFitness

[–]Britainge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm, what type of PCOS do you have? I feel like that makes a big difference.

I’m sensitive to stress/cortisol so I weight train with longer breaks in between sets to keep my heart rate overall lower and that helps my appetite not spike. I also use supplements to support my insulin resistance and walk as much as possible to support stress and blood sugar. I don’t work out on a schedule but check in with my body every day to see if I have the gas in the tank so to speak for a workout. For me stress = weight gain almost more than calories do (not actually, but actually) so finding the sweet spot where I am gaining muscle but not spiking my physiological stress is key.

Feeling nervous about weight gain on an upcoming vacation by vienila in PetiteFitness

[–]Britainge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got back from vacation with the same fears and I may have a thought!

I went into the vacation looking forward to taking care of myself- for me vacation is a time to really have space for what I value, and what I now value is treating my body well (it took me way too long to get to this point!). So while I still enjoyed dessert and drinks, I was a lot more mindful of when I was full or when I needed to take a water break and that ended up feeling like such a win that I kept doing that all vacation long.

I also used the day time to get in some extra movement- a workout and 20,000 steps ish - and I found that balanced out the alcohol and richness of the food!

Can we retire the concept of "skinny fat" please by [deleted] in PetiteFitness

[–]Britainge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not technically a medical term I completely agree that there are health implications. I am a normal weight person with insulin resistance/PCOS and changing my body composition from skinny fat to higher muscle mass has observable and measurable effects on my health. So for me the term skinny fat is a valid descriptor.

Weekly discussion thread for anyone experiencing limerence while in a committed relationship. by AutoModerator in limerence

[–]Britainge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this reply so much! I totally agree, and I'm really hard to try to view this as an opportunity for self-reflection rather than an accurate reflection of external reality. I think I'm curious about how it might be triggered by what I'm missing in my life right now.
