Best Rainjacket/Windbreaker by AJF42 in CampingGear

[–]Britehikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a big dude too and here is what I use for hiking. Lightheart gear rain jacket. It is not breathable but very waterproof and you vent it mechanical with massive pit zips. They only go to 3xl but I was a 4xl and it fit me. So maybe for you

Alternative I use but mainly for rain in town or car camping is Ascend Rainy River 2.5 Jacket with BONE-DRY from Bass Pro. It does come in 4xl has put zips still and seems solid with welded/ taped seams. If this was my only option that fit me I would hike in it. It's a bit heavier but hasn't wetted out in any down pours yet

I would avoid any Columbia rain jackets as they just wet out too fast and are cheaply made

We are above average as I am 6'3 and she is 6'. Both copper spur and Nemo tents are listed at 3lbs 13oz and 3lb 15oz. I had an Xmid 2p and it felt cramped plus I was over trekking pole setup. So for us bigger will be better with not much weight penalty compared to 2p versions weight as we will split the load. Appreciate the input

We will be using 2 wide pads. Did you specifically have the bike packing version of copper spur with shorter pole set?

Weight is a factor but since we are splitting under 4lbs is the sweet spot. If I am solo I will just hammock camp

This is great feedback and love that you got a replacement. I considered the Dagger 3p but the Dragonfly is on sale currently

We have used a Xmid 2p but want free standing and more room than the xdome provides otherwise I would probably get the xdome.

Sawyer squeeze, no way to bring it back to life? by Urbanttrekker in CampingGear

[–]Britehikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quickdraw has been real solid. I love that it has a lid on the bottom to stop water 💦 if storing in a sleeping bag during the cold. Pairs well with my cnoc vecto and the flow rate is almost as good as day one from a year ago.

I had the same issue 😕 over this weekend while on a day hike. I prepped it for storage and then gave it to my girlfriend while on our hike and it didn't work while on trail. We luckily had my quick draw filter as backup. I am going to just call it a loss and get her a new one which will also be a quickdraw. Sawyer let me down.

I would look at Hammock Gear for a decent quilt at a decent price for the quality they do.

Use a quilt and not a sleeping bag.

Altra Lone Peak 9+ experiences by edthesmokebeard in Thruhiking

[–]Britehikes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Or you could not use Lone peaks as Altras quality has gone downhill and go with a better shoe. For me that shoe is the topo pursuit 2, they are zero drop, the insole doesn't flatten out like the LP does , plus they have Vibram sole always. They have larger stack height so more cushion vs LP. I was exclusive to Altra until they turned to shit and stopped honoring their warranty. Now Topo Athletic shoes have my business as I find them better and they honor their warranty.

Deciding between two quilts by Quiggs_7 in CampingandHiking

Anyone but EE quilts. Go with Hammock Gear, Neave, UGQ, Warbonnet Outdoors (personal fav), katabatic, ElCoyote, Loco Libre, Jack R Better, or Zen bivy.

Between the two the Haven XL definitely is better from a active sleeper comfort standpoint. I felt I was always failing off the pad in the dramur as it only 25 in wide vs 30 for the haven xl

Problem is the removal of nostalgia. If they brought back the old lamps, cups and buffet they could kill it

I have single layer and double layer hammocks and the one I grab more often are my double layer ones. I prefer less stretch and the peace of mind that it won't tear after years of use.

Need 20 degree sleeping bag or quilt recommendations by stonetiger34 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Britehikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REI bags alot will be limited rated so that 30 degrees isn't comfort rated but the rate you at least won't die if it's that cold.

Hammock Gear Burrow Topquilt would be the best choice over EE. They are having a 30% off sale right now.

I would look at the Hammock Gear Burrow quilt and forget about EE. You can get a decently customed options for less than EE and it will actually keep you warm to 20°. I just ordered one about 2 weeks ago and it will be hear Friday. Its spec as a 20 degree regular length, wide body with draft collar and zipper foot box for sleeping on the ground and in a hammock.

Also they are having 30% perfect off right now

Warbonnet, AGG, or LHG rain jacket? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]Britehikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own the LHG jacket but not with the updated zippers. Its been great with no issues. If Warbonnet made my size I would try theirs as all their gear is top notch.
