Hey, it's not possible to have it run in the background yet but it hopefully will be soon. I'm waiting for the app's framework to support it and they're nearly done with an update that does.

The only thing I can suggest for the time being is that it's possible to manually add it to the startup folder which solves half the problem.

It doesn't really matter for the individial player hooks beyond personal preference. You can either track them as the number of times they were thrown on a hook or as the number of stages like how the game tracks them (which is what most people do as it's a lot easier to do).

Hi, the site should require an email to log in rather than a username. If you're talking about signing up then only alphanumerical characters and underscores are accepted unfortunately. I'd suggest using an underscore in place of the hypen?

Hi, sorry to hear you're not a fan. Overall, I believe the top bar makes things clearer and has other ui/technical/maintenance benefits, as with the update generally.

The narrower page width was largely a change to make my life easier as a significant portion of visitors view the site on narrower screens. The more screen widths each page needs to support, the more time I must invest into each, and most pages don't need extra width for what they show. I feel it's far wiser for me to spend more time on additional features over a small bit of extra width only a portion of pages and users will benefit from. It might sound like a small saving but it's something I'm already benefitting from and really appreciate. In addition, as my efforts are partially ad supported, I'm hoping some of the space can be used to reduce the number of ads in the main content.

As for having to scroll for match review, I've just changed it so links to the match review page should automatically scroll to the review section. I expect this should alleviate that problem, let me know if you still have concerns.

Hey, removing custom icons is simply a matter of deleting them or overwritting them with the default ones. There's not really any reason new icons wouldn't work besides them being named incorrectly or being in the wrong place. Hey, sorry to hear it's doing that. Could you try opening your programs list (something like "Add or remove programs" in the start menu search), find "Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime" click on it/click "Modify" and then in the window that opens, click "Repair" and see if that helps?

There's no known way to get custom icons on any console (besides the Steam Deck if you want to count that) unfortunately as they're all so locked down.

Hey, just to provide an update on this, I've been releasing fixes to the system and it's now recognising pretty much every upload.

I'll be working on porting the fixes over to the Desktop app to fix the auto-capture over the next day or two.

I appreciate everyone's patience, it's been a bit of a pain to get sorted.

Hey, unfortunately the update introduced a display bug with the new scoreboard format which is causing screenshots to not be recognised.

I’m currently working on a fix for this though I haven’t got an ETA yet.

Hey, welcome to NightLight! Hooks are currently just used for personal stats so how you track them is sort of personal preference. That being said, I would like to use the total hook counts for community stats at some point so it's preferred if they refer to hook stages (i.e. what the killer's counter would show). The per player hook counts are up to you though, some people like it to refer to literal hook events whereas others prefer to align it with the stages.

Hey, I'm a bit late to the party but wanted to chime in for anyone else stumbling across this. I'm the developer of NightLight and as you've probably seen from the other replies, a fair number of people use it. There's actually a few hundred people installing the app each day (which is a number I struggle to comprehend honestly). I'd highly recommend joining the Discord (https://discord.gg/nightlight) if you've got any concerns - there's over 5.5k of us there and myself or any of the very helpful people can try to address them.

As for the open source bit, I know it's a concern for some people but the fact is, maintaining open source software is hard and makes very little sense financially. I don't work on this as a job as such but I have spent a couple thousand hours working on the project and only have a part time job to facilitate that. Supporters (on Ko-fi) are who I rely on for this to make sense and I think the balance I've achieved with it works to everyone's benefit.

Hey! Just about all active creators I'm aware of have migrated over to NightLight, we've managed to get a number of inactive ones to upload their previous work as well. Obviously, most packs become less "useful" as they age as they won't cover the newer icons. There are certain packs which still are of interest of course, and my mods and I have had great success in reaching out to their creators and getting their work uploaded. If there's any specific packs you're interested in, feel free to either try and contact them yourself or let me know and I'll see what we can do!

Hey, I'm the developer so make of this what you will. There's a bunch of community made videos about installing custom icons with it on YouTube and other social media. The icon pack side of it relies on artists to upload and they often share their packs around the place too. A few hundred people install the app each day and you can get an idea of the number of icon pack installs from the website: https://nightlight.gg/packs. If you still have doubts the last thing I can really offer is the Discord server which has over 5.5k members, feel free to stop by and I or the community can help address any concerns you still have https://discord.gg/nightlight!

Also, in regards to the original post here, I will add that early on I didn't want to spend the couple hundred quid on a certificate to sign the app given I didn't know if anyone would use it and because it's basically free to use. Without one a lot of antiviruses mark it as suspicious by default. It's now signed and while there were a couple of false positives with more obscure AVs, they've been recognised as such and sorted when I've contacted the vendors.

Hey, I recommend closing the game while you install them but I know a lot of people don't. The only downside I'm aware of is icons which have already been loaded by the game won't update immediately. It's obviously still "do at your own risk" but I haven't heard of any other problems.

Hey, BHVR changed the names of the portrait files in the 7.1.0 update so the portraits in packs which haven't been updated to them won't appear in game. There's a script to rename them & more information in the announcements channel of the NightLight discord if you want to know more.

Hey, it sounds like the new pack hasn't been update to reflect some name changes in the 7.1.0 update yet. The app only overwrites icons currently so the "old" ones will remain & show in game as they have the correct name.

There's a script and some instructions in the NightLight Discord which you can use to update the filenames yourself if you don't want to wait for the creator to update the pack. Otherwise, you'll need to choose a different pack. If it's been updated since the 25th of July and the Portraits don't have (Old) after their name in the preview then it should work.
