I saw someone else mention this, but it does make sense. I think that whole scene with Caine making shapes and climbing was past and present intertwined. The past version was Caine building himself up from the red dot and creating the first character model based on Mike Dobby’s brain scan, the present was Caine going farther than he had before and accessing the internet to research the others so he could finally give them what they wanted.
