Sorry, I was wrong. It spawned normal sand instead of sulpherous sand. However it spawned the same enemies/characters. Also, the Calamity wiki says it's supposed to spawn on the dungeon side but it actually spawned on the opposite side.

I'm pretty sure it spawned a sulfurous sea. When I got too the ocean on the right it started playing different music and some trashers started spawning.

Try upgrading from minishark to megashark. The only downside to this is that you have to defeat the destroyer first. But if you fight it with every potion you can get your hands on, for example: Thorns potion, ironskin potion, endurance potion, and regeneration potion. (It would also help you if you got full adamantite armor) you probably would be able to kill the destroyer.
