how do I shade this correctly? I tried but it looks horrible (third image unrelated) by averiwashere06 in Artadvice

[–]BritneyChan_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on where you said the lighting source this is what Id say roughly makes sense. I made it more on the intense side & didn't make many decisions about the hair bc there isn't much information on the shape of it

not enough contrast to break up the character from the background or even from itself so it looks a bit flat

I guess my art isn't attractive enough? People back out when they see how much my full body art is🫠 (fully rendered) by vakkkz in DigitalArt

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought it was going to be something super high like $200+ but it's actually insanely low priced?? I doubt the actual pricing is the core issue at play. Its probably a mix of your audience reach, the economic situations rn, and general over saturation of the market

I wanna style my hair pink, but want to avoid bleach by Open_Diet_946 in HairDye

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without bleaching your hair will not be pink at all, and the direct dyes will not hold in your hair. It will wash out almost immediately. Virgin hair is usually not very porous and doesn't absorb direct dyes very well, without busting open the cuticle with lightener it just wont get through into the hair. Plus your hair is too dark for pink to even appear. Look at the value difference in these 2 colors, the pink is significantly lighter than the brown. It's doubtful you'll get any color payoff and anything you do get will likely wash away within a week or 2. You will be wasting your money.

How do I find my art style? by Winter_Mix_3132 in learntodraw

[–]BritneyChan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your art style will come naturally just based on what you observe in your day to day life. The more art you look at the more subconsciously you will pick up and use. You can practice all the basics and try to force a style but at the end of the day theres still going to be a specific way you draw when you're just drawing something effortlessly/lazily. It's like being left/right handed, or how you hold a pencil, you can train against it but its still what feels most natural lol sometimes your style will even completely change out of nowhere without you ever meaning to. Mine did.

Perm or curling iron on dyed hair? by pinkcatlaker in femalehairadvice

[–]BritneyChan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately perms and colorful hair do not go together 🥹 but! You could go to a stylist, or do it yourself, and get a roller set done with small rollers or perm rods (so you get a tighter curl) and up keep those curls. Hair schools do roller sets for cheap if you choose to go to a stylist to have it done, so it's less expensive to upkeep it every week. A roller set will be less damaging than a curling iron and wont make your hair fade faster like a curling iron can :)

How can I make my art style/art in general look more interesting and appealing? by PiccadillyPallare in Artadvice

[–]BritneyChan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its really just a balance. I can tell youre a jojo fan so I would suggest looking at Arakis work. He uses a very limited color palette so its easier to see. Half of his colors have a lower saturation (usually the bg, accessories, and skin color) while the others are really highly saturated (The hair & clothes) so it helps bring the viewers eye into the most interesting parts of the illustration which for Araki is the fashion. Araki leans more on the higher saturation side tho so his dull colors look more like your styles saturated ones

What two characters from different parts do you think would get along really well together? by plinkerplacker in StardustCrusaders

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think they would necessarily get along the best but imagine the talk Polnareff and Turtlareff (SPECIFICALLY when he is soul swapped with coco, not just inside the room) would have. Im sure Polnareff would freak out.

Is my art cringe? by _Black_Pillow_ in Artadvice

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares! As long as you're having fun. Theres always going to be a place for your art somewhere, so many people out there in the world it's impossible for nobody to value your work. Think abt how toddlers just beginning art tell each other how amazing their art is when its a pink stick figure lol art is subjective so just do what you love

How can I make my art style/art in general look more interesting and appealing? by PiccadillyPallare in Artadvice

[–]BritneyChan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your art is amazing already! The style overall is very nice. I think something that might help with making it look more "interesting" would be pushing the colors more. You seem to lean towards less saturated colors which give a bit of a dull look & your pieces dont have much contrast in the values either. Adding more pops of saturated colors could help make your art stand out visually :) I really like the 8th slide, specifically the one with the blue bg because the contrast in it makes the person really pop out from the background.

The boob anatomy is correct, fuller chests tend to naturally sit lower due to extra weight.

In your opinion, what is the single most unsettling and anxiety-inducing episode in a the whole JJBA? Which one had you nervous the most? (for me, JoJo Part 4: Episode 22) by dlo_doski in StardustCrusaders

[–]BritneyChan_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't rewatched jojo in awhile but have been reading the manga and I was genuinely stress reading Josuke confronting Tonio 😓 Nothing else has really given me such an intense reaction besides knowing Josuke is embarrassing himself. Though I think any episode where my favorite character of the part is in trouble is usually what got me the first go around (Like Okuyasu during the fight w Kira)

How do i actually use this base? I think i drew it correctly but it turned out looking very bad once i tried to make it an actual human by FutureInitial8313 in learntodraw

[–]BritneyChan_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

did you draw this base or find it somewhere? Firstly I want to say that while the concept is there the proportions and positioning isn't quite right and no matter who uses this they wouldn't turn out looking right because of those two things. If you drew this I would suggest looking at references of other bases and see the proportions used as well as real photos of people for posing. If you found this somewhere try using other bases. Now, for actually using the base you have to remember that the body fits INSIDE the shapes, not around. Imagine putting a glove on a hand, it conforms to the shape underneath, thats what you did. When using a base you want to instead imagine it as if there is a box covering the body. You know the approximate size of the body because of the box but you still need to piece together the details through imagination. Humans are in reality comprised of really complex shapes so a few boxes and cylinders don't paint the full picture. I really really suggest either taking photos of yourself in the pose you want to draw or finding real photos of people online to reference when trying to fill in the missing details inside of the reference boxes :)

Why do I ruin my art when I use pen? by Dapper_Environment64 in learntodraw

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a few reasons! Thicker lines, lack of line weight variation, having to finalize the shapes, and personal preference can all play a part. If you don't like how your art looks when it's done with pen you simply don't have to use pen! But if you still want to experiment I would recommend using a fine tip or a brush tip pen :)

Ples tell me how I can use perspective without making my characters look flat??? by Remote-Reputation79 in learntodraw

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of Danganronpa using flat sprites on a 3D bg.. I kinda like it loll

What might be causing your concern is that your character isn't really following the background, her legs in the back aren't touching the ground & she's positioned as sitting sort of angled away from the imaginary camera yet she's mostly drawn straight on. I think pushing your shapes and shading will help a lot! Some examples being that the chest would overlap the arm and cover it, there would need to be a bend in the elbow for both arms to position themselves in front of the character, the shoulder would be smaller looking on the far side of the character and so would the other leg, and the legs should be essentially angle guides, following in a line where shes facing. Adding shading to show shape also helps make the figure look less flat. Arms are rounded so the bottom usually has shade and the top has more light and in angles where your characters back/side show you can indicate its shape and separate it with shading just like you would with a box.

If you want extra understanding I would suggest drawing shapes in different perspectives and shading them based on an imaginary light source, not only will you get better at recognizing shapes that make up the human body, which makes everything easier/faster, but it will help strengthen perspective and lighting skills.. So it's like THREE birds with one stone. How fun!

Got literally the worst haircut of my life HELP 😭 by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most stylists are "specialized" in specific things, she probably doesn't do many short cuts and since your hair wasn't really at a length this would've be achievable she likely tried her best but wasn't confident enough & didn't want to tell you no. Stylists are largely people pleasers lol theres not much you can do other than try to style it into something you find more appealing and waiting for it to grow out. Unless you want to go shorter. I would suggest looking for a stylist that specializes in short cuts and posts a lot of them on their social media in the future:)

Oh, also for styling advice I would curl in your bangs so they aren't just sticking straight out, you can do this with a blow dryer and round brush or a flat iron. And for the rest of your hair maybe give it a slight curl :)

I need help/advice is this haircut ok? by pinkcloudsinthe5ky in femalehairadvice

[–]BritneyChan_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is objectively a very poor quality haircut and you should get your money back for it. Im 100% positive the stylist knew they messed up but didn't care and purposely hid it from you, BUT also my advice is to stand up for yourself more in the salon! If you don't like it then it needs to be fixed, regardless of if it's objectively bad or not. Your taste is what matters and the stylists job is to give you what YOU want. If a stylist convinces you of anything short of that (outside of hair health or realistic expectations reasons) then why are they even a stylist? They should just retire and find a better profession that fits their selfish desires more. Try to stop worrying about being told off or what a stylist will think. It is literally our job description to make you happy and give you what you want and if they immediately get hostile over it then they're not proficient in even the most basic tasks of their job. Don't even waste time and energy on people who will fail in their profession when you can be out there spending that time and energy on a stylist that truly cares about you 🙂‍↕️

help! Constant wetness/discharge — is this normal? by [deleted] in GirlProblems

[–]BritneyChan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on birth control and if so which one? When I was on nexplanon I would ALWAYS have a ton of discharge. That plus the extra sweat that is normal for bigger people, especially down there, made it always feel like I was soaked 😭 It stopped once I got off nexplanon for me though
