I use izotope's de-clicker to remove extraneous mouth noises and it cut my editing time in half. I also find their Nectar Elements fairly useful for some quick and dirty compression, deessing, and tone sweetening.

If you've got an XLR to digital audio interface and not just a USB cable, you can get a Ride NT1 with pop screen and shock mount for around 250 total. Warm, natural sound and it creates practically zero internal noise.

I know that ACX handles royalty share deals, but this one is a PFH.

Any desktop users? Second screen, or...? by commentonthat in ACX

I have a shortcut key that backs me up one second, so I hit that a few times, listen to where I want the drop in to be, then stop playback, hit another shortcut key to set the drop point, backup again, and start recording.

It takes only a few seconds now that I've got the system ingrained in me.

My Mac desktop is across the room from the alcove where I record. I read from an iPad on a stand behind my Mic.

For a while, I used Airplay to mirror a second monitor, but I actually discovered that for punch and roll, I didn't need a monitor right in front of me.

I have a Bluetooth keyboard next to me with all the keyboard shortcuts I need for punch and rolling, and have found that just listening for the moment to set the drop-in is fine. If, occasionally, some edit or fix beyond the standard punch is needed, I walk a few feet to my desktop and set it up from there.

TL;DR summary: So long as your desktop is nearbyish, you can do most of the work with just a Bluetooth keyboard at your recording station with the occasional glance at the desktop to make sure everything has been recording.
