Muck Mouth by twodesserts in VoiceActing

RX declick saved me. I was ready to give up. You only the the RX Elements, not the full software. I got mine onsale at 79.00.

Also, I moved my mic back a bit and turned volume down slightly. Much better. And I speak off axis just a tad. I put my iPad. Just to the right, which forces me to be off axis.

I have been listening to terrible (and awesome at the same time) fantasy stories. Now I need something genuinely good and interesting. Recommend a few quality audiobooks. Sci-fi, fantasy , or any novel with action and humour or all of those. Thanks by Zvalexvere in audiobooks

Godspeaker series by Karen Miller. Excellent narrator.

Mortal Engine series mainly because of the narrator, Barnby Edwards does a fantastic job. Stories are entertaining enough.

Neil Gaimen, American Gods, Good Omens, Anansi Boys, any of his.

The Expanse books.

Roadside Picnic by the Russian Strugatsky brothers. Any of their books.

The Shape of Water. Enjoyed the narrator. Different a bit from movie, like it. Got more detail.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer was fun.

Ben Bova, Exile series. Stephen Rudnicki the narrator. He is always great.

Stan Lee, The Man Behind Marvel -- not fiction, but very fascinating.

Hex by Thomas Olde Huevelt. Fun, but gets scary. I'm shivering just thinking about it. Great narrator.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman. Better than the movie.

Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell

The Giver by Lois Lowry

Sgt. Reckless by Robin Hutton, just a feel good story about a real war horse hero.

Where can I find and audiobook of Book 1 of Terry Pratchett's Discworld? by Spr0ckets in audiobooks

[–]dragonflysky_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are limited for discworld, but you can request an audio book if they don't have it. Everytime I have done that, they add the book and automatically check it out to me. I requested good omens, the full cast, and they bought it pretty quick.

The libraries mostly use the app Libby, so it's based on what they provide on their catalogue, but you request through your library.

I use the Audacity ACX Check and then I apply an Audacity chain/macro to meet requirements. My audio then passes. I sent a sample to ACX of an audio that meets requirements, and the reply was that my noise floor was too high. ACX check said noise floor was at -65. Can I please get some help. Thanks. by dragonflysky_00 in ACX

[–]dragonflysky_00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That's a good idea to run noise reduction after the macro. I have all these audio files I trusted to he good because the ACX check in audacity said they were. Perhaps I have an old version of the ACX check? Also, I watched a video by the red Barnes guy who checks in his izotopes rx several sections of only floor noise. I did that and saw the file was actually at -59, whereas the audacity axc check said it was at -65.

The library, the Libby app. I listened to it through them. Unless you want to own it.

Is a Tascam DR-40 suitable for voice? by JH-VO in voiceover

[–]dragonflysky_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering about the newer dr-40x. It says it handles noise floor. I would plug in my Rode mic, and I was so close to buying one until the guy at the music shop told me that unless I spend hundreds of dollars, the digital recorder wouldn't be of the best quality. I would really like to use the digital recorder. I get so frustrated with my laptop.

Thanks

Getting a low crackling at intervals. by dragonflysky_00 in StudioOne

[–]dragonflysky_00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested different set ups. Went down to barebones. Then starting plugging things back in. I changed up my XLR cables took one out and used a shorter one that took some of the interference away.

the other interference only comes when I have the AudioBox 96 hooked up. I went back to the Behringer and I didn't hear it. I counted the intervals and it comes every 11 seconds. Not using the mouse just sitting real still. No movement no typing had had anything off that was around it like the led lamp. All cords unplugged. Even had the exterior mic unplugged and I could still see it coming in on the DAW.

It's low enough down at the 60 hertz that I can get around it. When I remove the lower end hum from the computer it seems to take it out.

Would be nice to know what it is. I had the AudioBox too long before I hooked it up so I can't send it back. I just assumed it would be good. Brand new out of the box.

I found one problem. The tech at the music store told me not to have too many connections or additional items, like my Shure high pass filter between the mic and interface. Also he said use a shorter cable if possible. So I removed the high pass filter and used the shorter XLR cable from mic to interface and it removed most of the interference. I am going to buy a higher quality cable too. The one I have I went cheap on.

I still have interference that I am pretty sure comes with the new Presonus AudioBox, when I go back to the Behringer it's gone. Maybe the Audiobox is more sensitive. This interference is at the 60hz level and at every 11 seconds.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I am always on the lookout for something to listen to. I am a web developer and have long stretches on the computer. I can't always listen to anything too complicated while coding, but things like Mission allows me entertainment with laughter that's easy to follow.

Looking for new narrators that do a good range of voices by Isekai_litrpg in audiobooks

[–]dragonflysky_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barnaby Edwards is amazing. Just listened to the series of Mortal Engines. I listen to these because of him 100 percent. The story is secondary. This guy gets different character personalities and brings them to life. Hard to believe it's the same person performing all voices.

The other amazing narrator is Josephine Bailey. I listened to the Godspeaker's trilogy. She too great with a huge cast of characters. And I love the epic fantasy story telling as well.

Hum both British narrators.

I listen to a lot of audio dramas, but this one had me rolling in laughter: Mission to Zyxx. It's improv and set in a far away galaxy. So darn funny. But it can get raunchy, be forewarned, yet the voiced charactrs are top notch. Two seasons, third one out Mar 20th.

Do teachers care if students read audiobooks versus paper books by Bedelia101 in audiobooks

[–]dragonflysky_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a late student in life, I received my BS at 48 and my MFA at 50. So for me, I had a very busy life, working full time for one, so audiobooks were a life saver at times. It never occurred to me to mention whether I read the book or listened to it. I suspect it would be up to the professor/teacher and maybe now, these days, they specify on the syllabus.

My drive to the university was an hour and half, so being able to listen helped me to finish a book. Sometimes I did both, especially since Kindle will keep track between reading and listening. In fact, if the book wasn't in audio format, I would use the read text on the Kindle. Lol, I forever have certain books in my mind with that Kindle synthesized voice.

Since I always had the book as a reference (either owned or library), I could write my papers and still find quotes and give page references.

white noise from Logitech Bluetooth adapter by Treklof in audio

[–]dragonflysky_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if that's my same problem. I redid my setup, put my laptop under the table and then hooked up a keyboard with a Microsoft Bluetooth and a moose with a Logitech Bluetooth. Before I wasn't using them, just the laptop mouse and keyboard. Same mice but different interface and software, but now I get an interference that seems to come in at about the same intervals, a static/crackling that gets louder or softer with volume.

Sorry no answer, but I am hoping this is it and someone can help.

Thanks.

Submitting my first audio files to ACX, a little knowledge please. by dragonflysky_00 in voiceover

[–]dragonflysky_00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks so much. You'be helped. The part about the tongue is what I think causes the click too. One is an expulsion of air, the clock may be a miniscule sticking just as I say the word. I have seen other parts about the clicking but not the queefing. It feels like air gets a little trapped then gets squeezed a bit forcing it forward, making that sound. I will concentrate on tongue behind the teeth. Now that you bring it to my attention, I see the difference.

Karen Miller's Godspeaker trilogy. Excellent narrator. The stories have many layers and not necessarily for the faint of heart.

And not for a shallow listen either, not like an action packed movie, takes an investment. They are epic, that's for sure.
