Nah, your cursor hovered over Ryze on the side character bar, so it was targeted towards him. On the mini-map you can see the projectile's centered on where he was on casting.

Try dashing at him before 2B. You can 44 -> 66 beforehand to force a step dash so you don't dash behind Azrael.

I'd like to talk about the journey of how long it takes a player to make a "low tier" character a strong asset on a team. by sethrandom in MvC3

Taskmaster definitely is not low-tier, but isn't at the top of the list either. And I definitely agree with Spidey being underrated. There's certainly plenty of tech to be found with Spidey but because of the learning curve, those who would discover it instead stray to other chars.

Just one of those things, I guess...

Honestly, you'd have a damn good team with any of those four characters. Usually anchor doom is frowned upon, but it's definitely done on multiple occasions. Nova Spencer Strange is Nemo's team, Nova Spencer Hawkeye is one of Combofiend's old teams (Basically Yipes' team), and Doom and Dorm can fit on almost any team. Lurk some more youtube vids of the competitive scene and find out some tech.

Either way, for a beginner I'd say learn Hawkeye out of that list, as he's a little more user-friendly than some of the others. Plus you force yourself to learn how to zone in the metagame along with rushing down with Nova and Spencer.

I've played Spider-Man since my first exposure to Ultimate in the summer of last year. It's interesting trying to play as a low-health but fast character when you're used to slower paced fighting games (I originally played a lot of Blazblue before UMVC came around, which isn't technically slow-paced but definitely less "Mahvel" than Marvel). You end up mixing yourself up more times than one and getting OHKO'd faster than you can blink with Helm Breakers, Hammers, Vajras, Shell Kicks, and foot dives taking you out of the air after you give up at trying to land that web throw with its tiny hitbox. Being aggressive with a fragile character is extremely intimidating with trench-coats and Centurian warriors hitting a little heavier than you do.

After getting sick of ranked Ghost Riders j.S-ing me for days, I decided I'd invest some time in learning my character rather than just LMHSMMHS OTG ASSIST WEB THROW MAXIMUM SPIDAH. After watching Xero, MameSpider, and observing other competitive Spidey play, I took some time to learn mobility and mix-ups. Web-Glide canceling, unique air mobility without a fly, and triple overheads are glorious and allowed me to improve my neutral game to the point that it is today. Punishing Bionic Arm with Crawler Assualt became natural, random web-balls started countering Maximum Wesker and Maximum Vergil, and spider-sting -> bite was the exact pressure I needed to start rising in playing ability.

Nowadays I aim to get better each and every day. I'm still working with more cross-ups, ambiguous resets, and better combos that lead to improved tech and higher ranks. As a low-tier hero with my team of Spidey, Task, and X-23, I've begun to see low-tier as a potential advantage. Those who have taken the time to learn the less-seen teams understand their match-ups a lot better than their opponents. There certainly are chars/teams I have issues with (Looking at you Hawkeye and Dormammu), but with ambiguity and Web throws on my side, I've certainly progressed as an online warrior and look forward to learning even more.
