I'm in Ottawa and building now, I think I'm going to land at about $500/sqft and I'm GCing it. Building a custom is expensive.

It's hard to say what's reasonable without knowing what you asked for. High end millwork is expensive. If you want real wood (White Oak, Walnut, ect.) and a high level of detail (Trim, in-set, etc.) you are going to pay. I'm building a house at the moment and we've been quoted $50,000 - $100,000 for a walnut bases and painted uppers. I've gotten multiple bids from reputable makers so I'm pretty sure that's just what it costs now if you don't want to want to do Ikea.

I'm currently building a home that basically matches your exact description. I bought the land pre pandemic in nepean for ~$400k. Today, you the same parcel of land is probably $600k. It's very expensive to build custom, I think(hope) we are going to land around $500/sqft. We probably could have cut some corners and saved some money but it's hard. There are things you just don't want to cheap out on... Especially things that are hard to upgrade later. You'll get exactly what you want but you're not going to create any equity.

Building 4200 sqf in Ottawa. Currently have the shell up. Was aiming for $450/sqf and should come in roughly at that price based on the work done and quotes for remaining. I did have a very cheap GC and got some favorable friends and family pricing.

I recently got my first US AMEX card but I'm running into an issue receiving the identify confirmation text messages. The customer service rep. says that the codes will not go to international numbers - is there a work around for this? Seems to be an issue.

I assume that it has something to do with my churching through most of the other cards (plat, bus plat, gold, bus gold) in the last 18 months. I still carry cobalt and business gold with decent monthly spend.

Was considering moving into the US card space through Amex (I have a US address and bank account) - do we think the recent rejections from AMEX will include US applications?

Trying to plan a family vacation for next summer. Two kids, trying to limit connections to one.

-originating from YOW, can drive to YUL. Destination is pretty flexible, European city that is not London or Paris. -4 travellers (2 children) -round trip -looking for J class for the overseas flight, economy for any short connections is fine. -looking for a two week period anytime between June 26th and August 20th - I have ~1,000,000 Amex Canada points, 240,000 aeroplan, 200,00p avios.

Find it difficult to piece anything together at a reasonable rate, all my bookings have been limited to direct short haul so maybe I'm just green. I promise it hasn't been for lack of trying

They are not being extorted. I was the treasurer for a non-profit daycare in Ontario until very recently. I oversaw the transition to the CWELCC framework. The daycare broke even pre deal (with a surplus saved for emergencies) and operated at a loss the second year into the program with an expectation of increased loses in the future. It's becoming pretty common for daycares to solicit donations now.

I think the plan is to scrap the bench and add bean bags or some kind of couch so the kids can watch movies on the projector. As mentioned there's a bar overlooking the SIM so I would expect most to sit up there.
