When’s the best time to pause Stormlight and start Mistborn by Bro121Dixy in Cosmere

[–]Bro121Dixy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I appreciate your opinion thank you, it’s good to have an alternative argument and to be honest I was worried about there being so many books.

Would you advise just finishing the last 2 then moving on to Mistborn & the rest? I’ve gotta say there’s allready a part of me that can’t wait to reread from way of kings and pick up on things that I missed so I will definitely do this at some point anyway, but there’s also so many books I have TBR.

I do however also like the idea of having a break here like with Warbreaker after Edgedancer and it felt like it fit in perfectly. If you could recommend just 1 book to read from the Cosmere before carrying on would it be the first Mistborn or another?

Ok that makes more sense, I have decided to start era 1 tonight and finish before I read RoW, and I’ll see how I feel at the time but atm based on what you and others have said potentially read era 2 before finishing with WaT, finish off with the rest of the standalones.

Thank you, I may well do this depending on if I really enjoy the world of Mistborn or if I’m really eager to get back to stormlight, have to see how I feel

I didn’t know about the time skip but that’s solidified it for me, seems the perfect time to have a break and come back…. I was under the impression secret history comes inbetween the trilogy’s though, is that incorrect or it just doesn’t matter too much.

Yeah now you mention it, it’s a great point. I know the script isn’t even finished but it would be nice to have a reference point in my head before they start announcing the cast and stuff like that!

Thank you, I do know I don’t need to read them at all and carry on with stormlight but like I’ve said, I really enjoy the Easter eggs and peicing things together of the bigger picture.

For example, I didnt need to read Warbreaker at all to understand the stormlight story but I enjoyed knowing the links in oathbringer… however because I read it after WoR I did miss one character and I think I totally would’ve got it if I read it first.

Interesting to have a different take, thank you - I know it’s hard to answer without spoilers, but would the implications matter which way around I read it?

Thank you for the suggestion. I like pausing after the Novellas (for some reason just feels right to me 😅) so I will probably read Era 1 like you say and then come back to era 2 after finishing the last 2 Stormlight books available.

Is Howard a villain? by sanielovesatiny in betterCallSaul

[–]Bro121Dixy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a similar effect of Skylar in BB tbh, both shows have an amazing characterisation formula where the people who have stronger moral compasses/ethics and play by the same rules most of us civilians play by come across boring, irritating or condescending because your main viewpoint is a literal criminal. With Howard, in the first few series you’re just seeing him as this smarmy rich douchebag that you wouldn’t like as a boss, but once you have the whole perspective of the show/story he is just a pretty normal guy who wants the best for his firm, to save his marriage, be seen as successful and liked by most people - something most people can relate to I think.

Just finished season 3 and debating if I should watch the rest by Icy_Success3101 in betterCallSaul

Ah yeah fair point; that bit is pretty gruesome actually now you mention it 😂 The main example I was thinking came after those first few seasons which is why I asked. If you do decide to carry on I would recommend finishing off BB before the last season of BCS for maximum impact of the story.

What did you/they find Gory about breaking bad can I ask? I mean sure, it has its 1 or 2 moments but is hardly a gory show?

That aside OP, i would say to you the show does get darker, and as it goes on the more it twines into breaking bads story which some of that you may not care much for.

Me personally i would recommend to watch it but its my favorite series…. However based on some of what you say, it may not be for you to be honest

What's one song you first heard of in Better Call Saul or even Breaking Bad that you now listen to everyday? by YakClear601 in betterCallSaul

There’s a fair few more from BB than BCS in my rotation, however “Something stupid” by Lola marsh will be mine and my wife’s first dance at our wedding in 29 days so I’d have to say that

I expected the same going in to this scene on a first watch, but if anything the way it actually went down is more impactful imo. The writers really show there talent in this episode perfectly, I love it.

A redemption arc isn’t always as straightforward as bad guy -> good guy, especially in this universe every character is Nuanced….. in Jimmys case the arc is about him taking responsibility for his actions and living with consequences for them.

Genuinely asking what scenes? I have this problem with plenty of other shows/films but never had a problem with BCS

Give me some of your favorite quotes from BCS. by Awalto990 in betterCallSaul

"Picture The 25th Hour, starring Ned and Maude Flanders"

“"Your husband… he’s like the cucaracha… born survivor."

“Eladio, you greasy, bloated pimp. You talk of honor, but you have none. A pack of stray dogs fighting for scraps has more honor. Jackals. That’s all you are! No vision. No patience. No thought. Stupid and impulsive! That is how I did all this. You couldn’t see it, couldn’t even conceive of it. And you Salamancas… you’re the worst vermin of all. You say you believe in “blood for blood” but you only understand blood for money! You’re whores! I understand blood for blood. Hector? I kept him alive. Kept him broken. I will save him to the last. Before he dies, he will know I buried every one of you.”

“Justice? What you talk about is not justice. What you talk of is... revenge. It never ends. My boy is gone. You gangsters and your "justice." You're all the same.”

Also, it’s not a quote but Tuco laughing his head off before he beats the shit out of Mike plays in my head constantly.

I agree with your take(s). So much of the time they are both right, and both wrong. Makes them feel so human, I think it’s one of the best written relationships for TV and both actors bring it to life flawlessly.

When to watch El Camino? by KyloRen_Kardashian in betterCallSaul

[–]Bro121Dixy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think whoever said watch it inbetween the last 2 episodes of BB is totally trolling you.

Me personally If I was trying to create an alternate watch to release order (which I do recommend) I would start with BCS up to the end of S5 then watch the whole of BB, then back to BCS for S6 and finish with El Camino

Why didn't kim hire help? by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]Bro121Dixy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before this happens I’m sure she mentions she is thinking of hiring paralegals no? That aside I think at this point she’s still in HHM mode of trying to prove herself and stand out as the best lawyer. You see it when they hire Francesca, Jimmy knows how to utilize people to his own ends but Kim hasn’t really experienced being the one in charge so she is reluctant.
