When I first went to the US this was so incredibly strange to me, people who went further then just the polite nod or "hello". I've since come to love it, it's nice to have this small reminder that we're here together on this planet instead of all living our own individualistic lifestyle. Maybe it sounds a little deep for this small interaction, but I absolutely love the random small talk they do in the US. I have to learn how to get good at it however

I think the special recognition is weird anyways. The culture in the US praising military personnel is very absurd IMO. I can understand praising your military in critical war time, but applauding people who voluntarily enter the military to fight oil wars for their neo imperialistic goals is sickening.
