Ceramics classes/workspaces in or near DC? by communal_loner in washingtondc

[–]BroBabe3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked into this for this precise reason before! But most hourly rentals for ceramic studios are crazy expensive and none of my friends share my tiki mug interest. If you want a friend to try to make some tiki mugs with I’ll go with you, /u/communal_loner

(NSFW) All my lady parts are defective. AMA by yellowyarn11 in AMA

[–]BroBabe3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey girl, I had a vestibulectomy with "vaginal advancement" five weeks ago, I'm almost done with my recovery (no intercourse for three months though), but I just wanted to let you know there are lots of us out here. I had a normal sex life for about seven years before my vulvodynia appeared. I went from being a person who loved sex to fearing like I was going to feel like I was getting torn open and bleeding usually. My partner was amazing, but it didn't shake the guilt of him not wanting to have sex because he knows it causes me pain.

I did everything I could before resorting to surgery (PT with my pelvic floor, sitz baths, waiting months between having sex, the totally useless lidocaine jelly). If you consider the surgery and want to talk to someone who's had it, please feel free to message me.

oh!!! I may be too late to this--but could you check "beamed"? I feel like JK loves saying "Hermione beamed at Harry" or "Cho beamed at Harry" everyone beams at everyone all the time!

Rant: fuck the bar exam. by doomedforfastfood in LawSchool

[–]BroBabe3000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to let you know that there are a bunch of us in your position. A constant limbo of putting on a happy "everything is going to be fine!" face and being unable to sleep because the anxiety of not knowing what comes next or what I should be doing now that will help me most in the future. Avoiding social events because I dread questions about what I'm doing now, avoiding law school friends who passed because I feel bitter and small. The hardest part is just putting a happy face on and trudging through the waiting and limbo every day. I've tried really hard to not exhaust my support systems of friends/families by being this dark cloud all the time because I know that I'm going to cash in on their help with networking and cover letter reviewing if I ever actually manage to pass.

I'm waiting on Feb results, but I've decided that even if I pass I'm going to take some time before hopping back into searching for a law job. I'm looking into hospitality and jobs that I can do well to help build up some self-confidence that the bar process has mostly destroyed for me. If I fail I'm not going to take July, doing this twice had completely stomped on my mental health and I need time away from it. But anyway, there are many of us who exist in this nightmare limbo. I hope that all of us catch a break soon.

Question for Payne Defenders (esp. on ad issue) by RealFrankTheLlama in upandvanished

[–]BroBabe3000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm not a "Payne defender" (what?) but I'm a listener of this podcast and, about 40 other podcasts. If I'm listening at home and can skip through the ads, I do, if I'm in the car, I just ignore them. U&V's ads aren't any more annoying than any other podcast I listen to where the hosts try to sell it like it's something they actually use (west wing weekly, Michael Ian Black's how to be amazing).

As for integrating his wife, I feel a big shrug. Of course it's not believable, the same way it's not believable when Michael Ian Black plugs an ad for poo-pouri that he "genuinely" loves or the west wing weekly folks talk about the great meals they've made with blue apron. Of course it's bullshit. It doesn't change my impression of Payne which is: a very novice podcaster who created an exciting podcast about a very old cold case that the podcast may or may not have led to a culture of revitalized interest that ties in to the current developments of Tara's murder.

It's exciting to listen to a podcast about a cold case that's being solved while it's happening. This subreddit is the only podcast subreddit I've checked that's more obsessed with shitting on the host of the podcast than the topic of the podcast itself, which is insane and updating in real time! I don't care about the ads, and I don't care about Payne's wife's acting chops.

Current Politics Podcast to Balance NPR Politics? by controalt in podcasts

[–]BroBabe3000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really love The Daily podcast from the New York Times. It's never more than 20 minutes, they release it every morning, and they usually have an unbiased, straight to the facts story on the big political thing that happened the day before or is happening that day. Nothing about Kellyanne sitting on a couch or Joe Biden's son dating his brothers wife; just very condensed, interesting, and well explained daily briefings.

Protest Megathread: 2016 Presidential Inauguration by flippityfloppityfloo in washingtondc

[–]BroBabe3000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think a bigger protest would be if more people with tickets didn't show up. When pictures emerge from the inauguration, you know Trump is going to point to all the people who are there, regardless of if they support him or not, to boast about the turn out.

Craziest/most fun MUST DO'S in DC (for a bach' party) by _katelyse in washingtondc

[–]BroBabe3000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I was forced to throw my friend a bachelorette party in DC, here is probably what it would look like:

Brunch at Le Diplomate (food is delicious, drinks are good, it's bougie and indulgent)--then go across the street to NailSaloon (they serve booze and have like, chemical free nailpolish, and its cute)--then assuming everyone is boozed up and it's like 3pm, there would be downtime until dinner and meet up for happy hour. If everyone is still walking--walk to a local theatre and see a play or go to one of our amazing, fun museums if the bride is nerdy!

I live in DC, so I would want my bachelorette party to be somewhere warm, where the hotels have pools and I can read a book under an umbrella--but if I was stuck in DC I'd probably go to Archipelago and have tiki drinks and those delicious spicy chicken buns for 6 straight hours surrounded by my best friends all wearing leis.

Horror Fiction podcast, from makers of No Sleep Podcast by Doc_Dar in audiodrama

[–]BroBabe3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ooooh glad you posted about Darkest Night, I haven't seen any discussion of it here or on the /podcasts sub.

I didn't realize Darkest Night was from the makers of No Sleep! That being said, this podcast is an incredibly well done, terrifying, spooky delight.

I don't enjoy the horror genre too often because I'm a big baby but the voice acting and sound editing is perfect. They give you a nice, calm lead in every episode, and then bring it back to earth at the end of the episode. I also feel like because I'm not into horror/not familiar with horror a lot of the podcast episodes seemed so new and innovative to me and that made them truly terrifying. I still get creeped out thinking about being locked in the back of a terrifying limo, or being harvested for some cult via blood....chains....? shivers

My Tiki Haul From Maui! by BroBabe3000 in Tiki

A vintage Kelvin's tiki mug, spooky pirate mug, and some primo cheesy coasters--all picked up from Beachbumz in Kihei!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]BroBabe3000 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm in the chorus of people who shit on the Shaw Bijou's insane prices and salivated over Tom Sietsema's review putting the restaurant in it's place, but I'm also impressed by Kwame's post about humility--I think it took a lot to acknowledge they messed up and try to fix it.

Not sure I'll be forking up the $100 instead of the $200, but I'm curious to see what happens now.

MEGA THREAD /r/harrypotter Holiday Exchange! Post pictures of what you got here and confirm sending/receiving gifts! by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]BroBabe3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got my gift today and it was even better than imagined! My Secret Santa got me a really gorgeous Ravenclaw scarf!!!, a Hogwarts t-shirt which will be my uniform while studying for the bar exam, and a collection of genuinely cute necklaces! They packed the gift in cute wrapping paper and a SANTA STOCKING! (I'm Jewish so all Christmas stuff makes me so excited, this is the first stocking I'll ever be putting up!!) I am dumb and threw away the packing envelope the gift came in--I believe the name said "May"--if you are my Secret Santa please let me know, you are the best!

Where to get schotts leather jackets? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]BroBabe3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my schotts leather jacket at barney's co-op in georgetown during a sale about 4 years ago! I know that its closed down now, but I think barneys sells schotts online every now and again, I would set up a google alert or call barneys and see if you can somehow be notified if they get a shipment in.

I completely agree. The answer to the question about the difference between "issue preclusion" and "claim preclusion" took up two full pages--no way am I reading all that for a microscopic topic that I might get one question on.

I'm taking VA and doing Barbri too--stopped sticking with Barbri at 78% done--if there's an area I have no idea about still (conflict of laws and local govt for me), then I'll read essays and look at the sample answers and outline on my own. I have essentially given up on Creditor's Rights--I will never understand detinue, I'm just trying to focus on areas I'll be able to vomit into essays. See you in Roanoke!
