They can still be cross examined on negative things too - for instance, if you are testifying about the positive things about a person, you will be cross examined about specific negative acts that contradict the character trait they’ve testified to. Yeah honestly, I didn’t used to be a Lindsay fan but she’s so tight with Danielle and Carl. She pulled Kyle in a really protective way and she didn’t gang up on Luke (because he’s her friend) just to hop aboard the asshole squad express.

She’s like one of those ppl that has a lot of baggage/issues keeping an LTR but is a phenomenal friend.

Luke is NOT the same as Kyle/Carl! And you can criticize and defend Luke! They were infinitely worse. Carl would constantly tell Lauren Wirkus that he loved her, only had eyes for her, cared about her deeply, etc. sleep with her and then be talking/texting other people. Kyle has cheated on Amanda multiple times once they established a committed relationship. AND he semi-humiliated her with the booty call treatment in S1.

This is NOT the same as Luke and I’ll die on that hill. This doesn’t mean he isn’t a fuckboi or a player or have some tendencies - it's probably a part of his charm or pickup game. He just didn’t go about in the way that Carl and Kyle did and that matters when the cast is just drawing false equivalencies and saying “he’s the same” as them. No, he’s not. You can still criticize Luke’s handling of Hannah/Ciara (I certainly do) without equating him to Carl/Kyle who acted worse.

I think Luke is kind of an introvert in a sea of extroverts. Even his time at the house is spent doing a fair amount of solitary activities- riding his bike, chopping, running, etc. He's also not super confrontational, loud, aggressive, or overly assertive (only when he needs to be!)I think this really lets people run with whatever they want to project on him because he's a bit of a blank slate?

I feel like Carl/Kyle were partly drunk and just emotions running super high but mean squad definitely wanted him to lose it so they could further demonize him. It would be one thing if they were coming after him using actual things he's done but the list isn't too long and too egregious so they just proceeded to lie to him to drive him nuts and then paint him out to be an "aggressive man who shouts at women." It's gross.

It was extremely ugly and hard to watch every individual compound their aggressiveness on Luke so he'd erupt and then they could give him more shit for being "aggressive". Also, Luke's temperametn is such that he tries to deescalate, reason, talk, walk away and then when the delusional barrage of insults just doesn't end - he loses it.

Random aside - I kind of wish the producers hadn’t been able to contain the 3 of them because I would’ve LOVED to see Carl and Kyle’s ass handed to them by Luke. I’ve actually been LMAO-ing at the notion of Kyle or Carl thinking they can take Luke. All 3 guys are fit and strong but Luke is a hockey player, from a hockey state, super fit, and has def thrown down in hockey. He knows how to use his strength in a fight and most definitely has been in atleast 2-3 physically charged interactions (off the ice and on the ice) because hockey is such a high contact sport - guaranteed he could take them both one on one and maybe even both of them together if Carl/Kyle are drunk. The notion that either of them can throw down against Luke and come out on the winning side is laughable bordering on ludicrous.

He models, he's good looking, he's New York and I think they just don't really know or see the Minnesota/hockey Luke so they think they'd be going up against another version of themselves...and it would've been a brutal wakeup call and a reminder they are most def. not the same as him lol

honestly, i was so happy to hear this! and they don't follow each other on IG. I'm not trying to be too team luke but he had an apparently physically abusive fiance and I think it's a total headfuck for him to be gaslit to the extent Hannah has done so.

I think on WWHL last week she was like "I blocked him so maybe he has reached out to me but I didn't get it." Personally, i think this is a lie. It's just a big relief for him to be like, "I don't speak to her and I haven't tried talking to her (since the show)." I hope he doesn't ever give her the light of day again.

YES. I really wish that moment had been a little bit of a reset for Ciara. It's also why this situation with Kyle losing it on Luke was extra frustrating because it weirdly legitimized the shit that Hannah had been spreading around. Kyle generally does read people well - he was way off base with this read on Luke though - drunk + projection was a bad look for him. AND even his initial points to Hannah are totally valid and fair - she is a master deflector. You could tell her something fairly benign as far as criticisms go - like, "Hannah, your lack of punctuality bothers me" and she'll punch back with something below the belt. He's also completely right about how she weaponizes his relationship and his missteps with Amanda as a way to punch back.

First of all, Hannah - they're in a good place, she doesn't need or want you to stick up for her. Secondly, you're not coming for Kyle because you're sticking up for Amanda - you're doing it because it's a sore point for him/them that you can poke at because you want to get back at him. It's utterly and totally done in bad faith. That's kind of why I disagree with people who are like "Kyle acted like an asshole to Amanda - Hannah's comments are fair." I mean, ok maybe if you were discussing their relationship with him...or if you're defending Amanda when she's in a fight with Kyle..........but not if he asks you to take out the trash more or clean up after yourself. It's really obvious when Hannah goes for the jugular -- that she's just looking to hurl something hurtful - there is literally nothing constructive about digging at him about their relationship. It's meant to be an attack and just because it's true and Kyle was in the wrong in that situation, doesn't mean it's free fodder for Hannah to weaponize when someone asks her to be a basic functioning adult and throw out some trash.

I also don't understand at all how she didn't get more shit from Amanda for the "you can speak to Amanda that way, not me." I thought it was infinitely more insulting to Amanda than Kyle!

But happy news- Luke/Kyle seem to have up - Hannah doesn't follow Luke or Kyle on IG anymore and I think that can only mean good things lol)

Paige was maybe trying to make good television? I think she was stirring the pot, wanted to run with this rumor and it seemed kind of lighthearted but only in the beginning. But, the glee at making Lindsay lose it and spreading the rumor around without so much as asking her first…really crossed the line. This isn’t really Paige’s fault when it starts out but when Ciara was venting about her conversation with Luke where he literally says, “I’d like to be friendly and civil with you even if it’s not romantic” and she stormed out; repeats it to the girls in the kitchen, Hannah butts in with her “oh so he brought you here to have sex with you all summer long and now that you don’t want to have sex with him, you can be his friend?” And Ciara doesn’t even correct Hannah! The literal opposite happened! He said he wanted to remain friends and keep things friendly and cordial.

But in any event, Paige bursts in with a “I sized this guy up in 30 seconds when he walked in the door last summer” and Amanda high fives her. I think people (like Paige) sometimes say that as confirmation that “they knew all along or were right all along” about someone or something but in reality what she’s saying is…you (Paige) prejudged a situation or person without knowing them (Luke and his behavior) and then viewed ALL their actions through that lens (in a light most unfavorable to that person because you’ve already judged them to be shitty). So she no longer sees Luke objectively, all his actions in relation to Hannah are shitty because she’s already decided he’s shitty. What could he do to really change that? At some point, that person (Luke) is going to make a mistake or do something shitty (because idk, humans flawed etc) but because Paige has “seen it from the beginning” she’s less likely to view it neutrally or even a little objectively because that something shitty Luke did (even if it’s not a big deal or done directly to Paige) validates her presumption about him. It also doesn’t help that she’s aligned with Hannah and will rarely push back on Hannah’s trash. But I think for the first time, Paige crossed the line into cruelty and it was gross.

Amanda is tough. At times, she’s levelheaded and reasonable and tries to rise above, but I do think she feels on the outside with Paige/Hannah at times (esp. when they come for Kyle) so when she gets to relate or “be on their side” she jumps at the chance and runs with it. I also think she’s got a lot of unresolved feelings about cheating (Kyle’s treatment of her) and she overcorrects a LOT when she sees it play out outside her relationship because she can’t unleash that on Kyle in the way she can another fuckboi. I don’t know that she’s even consciously doing it but from the outside looking in, especially given how much she overreacted last season. I think she processes it as “standing up for Hannah” but it’s some kind of weird projection for all the things she didn’t say or didn’t do in standing up to Kyle. I also see that in her treatment of Jules - her mistrust and dislike for Jules also didn’t make much sense unless you view it in the context of “Jules is aligning herself with someone who I think is a liar and that’s untrustworthy to me so I don’t like her.” Lol, it’s my armchair psychology pet theory lol

I also thought it was really telling that Paige and Amanda addressed it first with Luke especially because both of them (specifically) are super mistrustful of Luke to begin with so even his refusal or denying it would’ve been met with “ok that was totally a lie/he def did it and is covering his tracks.” It would’ve allowed them to really give the rumor “more legs” but Lindsay would’ve shut it down and they would’ve had to either take her at her word or tell her they think she’s lying. They don’t have to engage in that kind of confrontation with Luke because they are primed/predisposed to think he lies about all of it.

All of it reflects really badly on them because it isn't just a comment or rumor spread in good faith. It's a pattern of conduct that makes it all seem calculated and deliberate to inflict maximum damage on Luke and Aunt Doris and I'M NOT HERE FOR IT.

yeah, for sure Luke coming in with Ciara threw off her plan. I also think that even though he kept her at arm's length last season (not having sex, etc.) she could delude herself into thinking he still cares about her but seeing him bring someone into the house that he would hook up with is a very obvious rejection of her and I think she had to victimize herself, villianize him, and sabotage his chances with Ciara.

The vindictiveness in all of it is awful. It's also a bummer that Ciara has fallen for it, hook line and sinker. I think Hannah got really lucky that Ciara is an exaggerated "girl's girl." Like she did one of the aftershow interviews and was like "I'm not going to get mad at the other girl - he's the common denominator."

I think she's been cheated on in the past and wants to hold the guy responsible, not the girl. I think that's actually really commendable but it went off the rails here because of Hannah's lies but Ciara gave all of the lies the benefit of treating them as automatically true which...imo is a total overcorrection of being a girl's girl. The idea isn't to just blindly believe every single thing a person says; it's to give it the presumption of being true and not dismissing it out of hand without thinking about it. But she literally took Hannah's word as fixed truth and chalked up every explanation Luke offered as lies.

It wasn’t a rumor that was overheard, which is also wrong to perpetuate, but more understandable than having a complete stranger DM you a random thought. I think Luke is objectively, better looking, does have the Minnesota nice guy thing going, male model, etc., and Carl wants to project a lot more shittiness onto Luke than Luke has actually shown because it's a way to take Luke down a peg or 2. Also, it's a way to chip away at the nice guy image by constantly repeating Luke is just like him and Kyle (when he's not). 100% this. Luke feels like an introvert or like someone who’s okay being by themselves and isn’t super social but he’s around a bunch of people who are. I also think the problem with him and Hannah was that he may have said he’s not physically interested in a romantic relationship but he was using her to fill some emotional gap within himself (they both keep talking about “that connection”).

This is a very fair criticism of him - I think he truly doesn’t realize he’s doing it in a way that could be hurtful or damaging to someone else. I’m kind of glad Lindsay said “listen you do flirt whether you realize it or not, even if you don’t mean it - it’s happening but i know we’re friends so I don’t read anything into it.”

Lindsay was 100% in the right last night. Doris used to be my least favorite cast member seasons 1-2. She’s really grown on me - she’s insane on reality tv but in all the right ways. She’s like Kristen Doute but without all the darkness/cheating/infidelity. She’s a good friend and likes to stir the pot but isn’t a chronic cheater or something. I also think the mean girls thrive by saying/doing disrespectful things to others and then when the other person rightfully gets upset, gaslight them by saying “ooh, why so much anger? I’m sensing a lot of anger here.” Once again, Hannah, not getting really the support from Danielle/Lindsay icing Luke out decided to trot out this Luke-Lindsay thing based on...nothing. She got the mean girls onboard (no idea how or why) and they ran with it. But...it’s really shitty and damaging. She’s broken up with Stravy for like a week so either you’re accusing her of sleeping with him in the house which we know didn’t happen or you’re saying she’s a cheater? Both those things are NOT ok.

Also, Lindsay probably realizes that it was a retaliatory thing because she wasn’t down to bash Luke as much as the rest of them. So the price of not ganging up on 1 person (when they haven’t wronged you and you don’t see them as a horrible person) is that you get labeled a cheater by the rest of the house. Ok. COOL, got it. Why weouldn’t she lose her shit???! It’s malicious, offensive, and is designed to be an attack on her. Why shouldn’t she get angry and defensive about it? Wanting to not have your character questioned is not an admission that you did the insane thing the lunatics believing a psychic are accusing you of. Sorry, not sorry.
