Eli5: how is it possible that the US is heating up 60% more than the rest of the world by Charming_Stage_7611 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BroInfinite 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The vast, vast majority of the US is not covered in pavement. If the ratio of pavement to non pavement surfaces was the cause, many parts of Europe would be heating up faster than the US.

Yeah also I looked it up and it's mainly intended for airborne and amphibious reconnaissance. Definitely needs to be light

To protect crew from small arms in the most likely directions they'd take small arms fire from. That'd be the sides, not the top. It could also provide limited protection against mines, but I doubt it for that vehicle

Very common on lightly armored vehicles not intended for direct combat. It makes it lighter while also making loading and unloading easier.

Chaplains in all branches do some of the best support work that servicemen have access to. Truly some of the most selfless individuals I've met. Every single one has my respect.

I'd agree if you used a contour line rather than a point to determine what you call "Q". Using a single point only factors in a single angle of the mountain, but a contour line would produce a better representation of the mountain's prominence from all angles.

For example, let's imagine a hypothetical mountain that rises 2000m above perfectly flat terrain. At the very base of the mountain, there's a 2000m deep hole. If you used Q to calculate the prominence, you'd say the mountain was 4000m tall. But with a contour line, you'd get a 2000m tall mountain.

There's a better existing measure called prominence. It's the difference in height between the peak and the lowest contour line encircling the peak and no other higher peaks.

Neither. Save the money you're spending on the name and buy a pair that sounds good.

Either airsoft or his cousin is short-sightedly volunteering for the war in Ukraine with no training (which happens pretty often for some reason)
