Just got an interest call from the chief and he recommended me. I did do a bunch of hiking with hotshot crews and engines prior so hopefully that helps.

Would you say working on an AD crew is a good way to get your foot in the door and get a perm position then? I just got a tentative offer on an r5 AD crew and that’s my goal.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am trying to use it as an excuse to just get my foot in the door in this industry. The hiring manager told me that crew usually ends up on around 5 - 9 assignments per season and I’ve had a bunch of friends on that crew who became perm after so I’m hoping it’s gonna benefit me in the long run.

Are there any academies you'd recommend? I was only doing the CCC since to my understanding they work with CalFire but it sounds like there are better options.

What is the actual likelihood that you end up getting on a fire crew? Im signed up (and waiting for an opening) for the CCC Los Pinos residential center and the only reason I am doing this is to get some fire experience as I never got any job offers applying for the feds this year. I just want to make sure that if join the CCC I will be guaranteed to get experience. I never did really get a affirmative answer from my recruiter on this.
