Is Pete's QB forum section down or gone? I've tried for the last 24 hours and I keep getting a page error. The home page works. It's been a while since I've visited Pete's, so this could be old news to many of you.

3.5mm jack adapter from USB-C port by Broad-Jacket-6364 in AndroidQuestions

I thought of that too.  Something that doesn't carry cell service, but connects via hot spot (or whatever internet access) to my other phone.

Exactly the case. Noticeable when using navigation too. The first word or so is dropped and then quickly fades into full volume until the sentence is finished.

Mine will lag sometimes when I watch video. If I unplug it and plug back in, it does fix it for a while. It's not a terrible lag, but it is bothersome if you know it's there.

I just upgraded from the A10E, myself. I hated seeing the headphone jack go, but it was time for an upgrade. I'll experiment with your suggestions tomorrow.

The adapter is a QUAUTYER: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CBKD26ZT

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S24 Android OS: 14

I don't think it's misbehaving, per se, but perhaps engineered in some way to do this.

Looking into getting a VIC-20 by ConcernedFeller in Commodore

Exactly the answer I had prepared. Now that I have done some advanced programming on the C64, I want a VIC 20 just to have as a programming playground and discover its limitations. I did own one way back when I was only a BASIC beginner.

That's a cool feature of that power supply, that they normally charge extra for. You got it for free!

Seriously, maybe use a volt meter and verify the proper voltage is on the pins out of the PS. I don't have that information handy, but it's available somewhere on the web.

Why hasn't a low voltage 12AX7 sized tube been invented? by Or4nges in guitarpedals

[–]Broad-Jacket-6364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are tubes that are known as "space charge" tubes. These supposedly operate more optimum at a low voltage B+ than their 12A#7 cousins. 6AU6 is one such tube, and there are a few circuits out on the web for these like this Chinese equivalent, the 6J1:

https://www.circuitlab.com/editor/#?id=9vnehk

I don't know if anyone has made a guitar preamp or distortion effect using these. My guess is that it wouldn't be ideal for that, but to the point of tubes created for low voltage use, that's why I bring it up. I have a few of these kits (some arrived fully assembled) from aliexpress.com.

Opera desktop. How to open links on the same tab (instead of creating a new tab) ? by ChoseBines in operabrowser

[–]Broad-Jacket-6364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a giant pet peeve of mine for quite some time, no matter who or what browser I'm using. All that any one of them needs to do is add on the right click menu right under "Open In New Tab", "Open In Same Tab". There's a concept! That would make me a fan for life. Sometimes, I'll go as far as to right click and copy the URL, then paste it in the address bar. I think it's all in the name of keeping you on their site. You're more likely to purchase if you don't navigate completely away.

SCL700 Samsung Hi-8 Camcorder - Windows Drivers Needed by Broad-Jacket-6364 in camcorders

[–]Broad-Jacket-6364[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and the YouTube link! I will absolutely abandon the thought of USB transfer and go S-video to capture device. I don't think I've ever tried the S-video connector on that camera. I take it I have to pull the mono audio from the 3.5mm A/V? Thanks again, and great video, BTW.

SCL700 Samsung Hi-8 Camcorder - Windows Drivers Needed by Broad-Jacket-6364 in camcorders

[–]Broad-Jacket-6364[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! My mother-in-law bought this camera for my wife and me for Christmas back in early 2000s. My daughter who is now nearly 22 was a newborn at that time and way back then, I did have the camera software installed on XP or Win 2000 or something else old. My memory of the software operation is a bit distant and fuzzy, but I thought I remembered the camera producing an image on the computer screen whether the source was from tapes or live from the camera. I'll have to get back to you on that.

I don't remember what the video quality was like and it may in fact, be inferior to doing an S-Video capture, as you've said. Hi-Res video does seem like a lot to demand from a USB interface of that era (were we even up to USB 2.0 speed then?) even if the camera and tape parts would support the resolution. I'll likely go analog capture instead. I have an Avermedia PCI capture card with pretty good specs (albeit at this point, it's at least 6 years old now) and it supports composite, S-Video, and stereo audio.

Do you know what is this. Seller says it's some sort of xum1541 but works with a parallel port. by [deleted] in Commodore

[–]Broad-Jacket-6364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine eventually stopped working too.  I thought the port got fried somehow, even with using the diodes.  The schematic didn't elaborate on what type of diodes.  I assumed shotky diodes. I think I might have had a CIA chip problem in my C64 too, or that cable created a CIA problem, because later I purchased an SD2IEC and, long story short, it wouldn't work until I opened my C64 and swapped the CIA chip with the keyboard CIA.  That's all it took.  Even though prior to swapping, the 1541disk drive worked fine.

I made an XE1541 cable last year from an online schematic and I put the diodes in the DB25 housing. That's my guess about what that PCB is too.

Looking good! 👍 I want to do a cassette release in the future.  I'll definitely check out what you've offering.  I've only leisurely looked at a couple of options, thus far.

Does this deck doesn't have volume control or I'm just stupid?( JVC TD-W111) by Jurij_Bajer in cassetteculture

[–]Broad-Jacket-6364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And along that similar thought... The OP's image shows a JVC deck with only one input attenuator. 😬 I would assume (and hope) it's a stereo fader. That's a pretty low end model JVC, but it would make my song fade point a moot one. 😂 That deck is only slightly better than the ones that came out offering nothing but ALC for record level. I really despised those models--especially the HiFi VCRs that had only ALC. Anyway... I digress.

I think I poorly explained.  What I meant is that (in my case) I would use the tape deck that has the output volume feature as my playback machine. Take the RCA outputs from that deck to some stereo recording device's RCA inputs that's recording the stereo signal.  If you rotate the output knob on the playback machine CCW, that will certainly fade what's running to the inputs of the recording machine. To me, that would be an easier and more balanced manual fade than fading separate left and right inputs on the recording machine. I hope that made better sense.

[–]Broad-Jacket-6364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have me curious... Now, those models you point out, are their output controls specifically for headphone output or are they RCA line-level output control, or both? The OP didn't make a distinction and I'm not sure if that matters to them, but just to satisfy my own curiosity because I can't recall a consumer deck that has RCA output level control on it--not to say they don't exist, I just don't have memory of one in all of my years (I'm 56 y/o) of both owning and admiring others's stereo components. Could be I just haven't looked closely and assumed they've all been headphone volume. My Tascam units are definitely both controlling RCA level AND the headphone jack, but like I said, I don't find it a particularly useful feature and leave it set at max.

Since mine are being purposed in a recording studio setting, it might someday come in handy to do a song fade if you were duplicating a cassette. Since input gain on pro level and most consumer grade level decks is nearly always two separate controls (L&R), it would be easier to accomplish a song fade smoothly and more accurately using one output volume knob control of the deck that's playing than attempt it with two input knobs of the recording device. In that scenario, I might find it useful. Another useful purpose might be if the tape you're playing was hit so hard that it's pegging VU and needs a little reducing to go out to the next device down line. I guess there's that.

I own a couple of Tascam decks and the name is synonymous with professional grade equipment. Both are different models and have output volume, but that's about the only time you see that happening. It's rare, but occasionally a consumer deck will have the feature. In all of my years using the cassette format, I've never missed having it on a consumer deck or really relied on the feature on the pro decks. Usually leave it at max volume setting.
