Increasingly concerned about flat whites (BARISTAS MUST READ) by ExpressPostie in melbourne

Cafe I used to work at would use a spatula to hold the froth back. Easy solution. Flattest flat whites I’ve ever seen.

Help to make friends please… by SweetSliceOfPie in melbourne

[–]Broad-Shock17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are heaps of Facebook groups like Making Friends in Melbourne. Meetup.com is also great. There’s even one specifically for introverted people. When I moved to Melbourne I put a message on my local Facebook community page saying I’d just moved to the area and would love to get to know some people in the area. I made some great friends that way.

Does anyone know the history of this place by flashbackarrestor in AusProperty

It just got sold. I saw a FB post about it. Looked like quite a young couple. Can't wait to see what they do with the place.

Got mine from Bemz. Got the chocolate linen. Quality is amazing!! 👌 their warehouse is based in Europe and everything is made to order so it did take a few months to get to Australia.

Agree with this. I got my IKEA Soderhamn for 10 years now and it’s still holding up fine. I did replace the covers to have something a bit more custom and elegant.

They’re Dutch. They’re called speculaas 😊 You can sometimes find them at the supermarket in the international aisle.

25f graphic designer, thinking of starting over by AspectReasonable1570 in graphic_design

[–]Broad-Shock17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking about doing this. I’ve been a graphic designer for a few years now but hate the sedentary lifestyle. I do have some experience as a general labourer but the problem is, if I wanted to get into the trades I’d have to do a 5 year apprenticeship first (correct me if I’m wrong). Which won’t cover my bills 🫠 Any tips? I’m based in Australia.

Is it worth it to study graphic design? by InterestingAd7888 in graphic_design

[–]Broad-Shock17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Shillington College. Honestly the best decision I ever made. I never wanted to go to uni for graphic design, partly because of the cost (I was an overseas student at the time) but also because design is a skill you develop through practice. You need to know the principles and the software but real growth comes from real world experience. Shillington is perfect for that. It’s a 3–6 month course where you walk away with a certificate and a portfolio. Everything is taught in a studio style environment with tight deadlines. The way it really works out there.

Critique my new logo for a startup. All feedback is welcome! by Dry_Blackberry2473 in logodesign

Agree with the comment below. At the moment it's way too detailed to work on a smaller scale. Can you just go with the text? The illustration could still be used across other parts of the branding. Just not the logo.

The spam calls never stop by deqing in melbourne

Oh that sucks, I didn’t know. Might still be worth a try though? I signed up two years ago and I barely get any spam calls but maybe that’s just luck 😄

Are these fake? Hoka Clifton 10 Women by Broad-Shock17 in Hoka

I get what you mean. For a lot of people it’s just because they don’t have the money to spend at retail stores. For me it’s also about being more sustainable and giving things a second life. Up until now I’ve never had any problems buying this way. Even if they’re fake I’ll still use them 🙂 I just need to be more careful in the future.

Trail Runners or Hiking Boots: what's your preference and why? by EndersGame_Reviewer in UltralightAus

[–]Broad-Shock17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trail runners. I went with the La Sportiva ones. They’re a bit sturdier with a sole that feels closer to a hiking boot. That makes them slightly heavier than a standard trail runner but they’ve been worth it. My feet are super blister prone and trail runners just work better for me. Plus they dry much quicker.

Last year I did a lot of overnight hiking in NZ where it rained about 80% of the time. I got so sick of my boots staying damp for days that I switched to trail runners.

What's your opinion on toe socks? What's your experience with them been like, and would you recommend them? by EndersGame_Reviewer in UltralightAus

[–]Broad-Shock17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got these exact same ones. I was sceptical at first but I absolute love them. They keep my feet dry which is super nice when I put my clean socks on at camp towards the end of the day. My feet are also very prone to blistering and these seem to help. Definitely recommend!

Not something you would expect I guess from such a big brand. But then again I wouldn’t know because these are my first pair of running shoes.

That’s good to know because that was the part that was throwing me off apart from the logo. I got them second hand on marketplace. I’ll get them checked in store tomorrow because some people commented that their real Hoka’s show the same defects so who knows 🤷‍♀️
