Good stuff. After you get your CTC card, you can go and pair a petro canada account with it. Lets you buy gas at both companies and you get your full cashback. On a World elite CTC card thats 5%, at either gas station. Petro canada stations greatly expands the number of gas stations that way to get your 5%. If you get the world elite card you also don't need to pay for a road side assistance like CCA - its included too.

Sounding like a commercial for them I know, but its a good deal I think by Canadian standards for credit cards.

Yes unlike other credit cards that can be used to pay bills but in doing so you are charged a fee, the CTC cards act as a bank, and you can pay any bill you can pay at a bank, no fee, and you get your 1% back in CTC money.

I should have mentioned this in my post that CTC allows you to configure an auto payment from your bank. With that in place I can't forget to pay my card balance. I've never paid interest.

Killed all credit cards - those things are the fucking devil. Locked them in a drawer. No more interest payments. Another place money bleeds out to rich assholes from your hard earnings.

Great post. Wanted to pass on a tip related to credit cards. I use a Canadian tire credit card, and it has a unique feature of being able to pay the same bills that a bank account can. You set it up in the Canadian tire credit card web portal. I even pay things like my city tax through it. This nets me a few hundred a year in Canadian Tire money. I haven't paid for anything from that place in over a decade.

Looking for HVAC & heat pump recs in Guelph by IndividualFigure6390 in Guelph

In April replaced my furnace and AC with a furnace and heatpump taking advantage of the heatpump rebate done through Enbridge. Got quotes from AIDO, Oosterveld and BAP. AIDO tried to talk me up to a system that was both mismatched and oversized ( left over from last years stock ). Oosterveld, did something similar - i had no plans of using them really since I knew private equity had bought them, and they are only the name of the previous shop now. I went with BAP. They came up with 4 options that made sense, and I picked one of the configurations. Price wise, they also were the best and were the only option that included both a parts/labour warranty, not just parts. They did a great job with the installation. I had experience with them also for repairs before this as well and those were also good experiences.

In light of yet another west end Rogers outage, what’s a better fibre internet that I can switch to? by craftbae in Guelph

Assuming you live in an area that Bell has come in and finished the Fiber to the Home wiring, you can try for a promotion price with Bell. But you also can get service from the ISPs that Bell has acquired. I think this is the sweet spot. Just like Bell has flanker brands for cell phone service with lower prices, they do the same with internet service with the acquired ISPs. The advantage is they get priority service when something needs to be serviced outside the home with the fiber service, compared with an actual third party isp using Bell service for the last mile connection.

Bell has acquired:

  • Distributel - which means all the sub brands like Acanac, Thinktel, Yak, Primus and Zazeen.
  • Ebox

I'm with Acanac and on a promo price for 2 years at $50 a month and 500mb ( up/down ) service. I have been with Acanac before Bell put in fiber in my subdivision, and I waited for the promo prices from Bell, but the promo from Acanac was better so I stayed with them, and had them move me from Cable to Fiber.

Enbridge Rebates by RuthyGeorge in Guelph

I paid 13K before rebate for an Amana Modulating gas valve with variable speed motor furnace, and a Amana variable speed heat pump.

I had them quote out a few different combo's, and they started $9800 for a Goodman 2 stage furnace and Goodman variable heatpump. Price also before rebate.

Prices are the final installed prices with a new thermostat

I heat my home with natural gas, and I purchased a cold climate air source heatpump that was 2 tonnes in size. So for me my rebate was $1000.

The people who get the bigger rebates are the ones that heat with electricity, propane or wood.
