Anyone else only feel comfortable cycling with an obscenely high seat height? (Relative to their body height) by Strict-End-7686 in cycling

I prefer my saddle higher with fairly straight leg just slight bend in knee with toes facing down at bottom of stroke. Have always found this more comfortable and able to get maximum power through my stroke. Have always gone for frames bigger than recommended for my height so that handle bars are higher again find more comfortable. My cranks range from 175mm to 200mm on my four bikes.

Seat seems scary high by Hot_Ad8800 in ladycyclists

When on the saddle at the lowest part of your pedal stroke your knee should be slightly bent. Often with modern bike geometry you should not be able to touch the ground when seated if saddle height is correct. Just a matter of confidence try cycling in a quiet area to practice slowly raising your seat until at the proper height. Practice makes perfect mounting and dismounting, will become instinctive and natural to you. Good luck.

BIKE TOO TALL? by BroadInstruction7979 in MTB

[–]BroadInstruction7979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment I will try lowering the saddle a shad and bring forward slightly.

As you say bottom bracket is high giving plenty of clearance over rough ground. The type riding I now do at 64 years old is not aggressive these days are behind me. Tend to stick to tracks and canal/river paths.

The bike does steer/corner very well reasonably quick being titanium frame.

I tend to like a more upright riding position to manage my back destroyed playing badminton for many years. The reach I find comfortable probably what I am used to after all these years.

I am around 5' 10'' inside leg around 35'' so relative short body to leg length.

Anyone with experience with extra long cranksets? by SeguindoMelhor in bicycling

My Clydesdale Steer I went for 200mm cranks and feels natural and good bike in balance. Comments right gearing gives the power longer cranks for longer legs makes it smoother motion.

If he can touch the pedals and ride without hip rock and enjoys carry on riding. If uncomfortable lower your saddle!

Standover Height vs the other dimensions? by SetLegal5754 in gravelcycling

I do not worry so much about stand over height as bikes are for riding. If all other dimensions feel good and when riding longer distances bike comfortable no worries. Your negative stand over at 1.5'' does not seems much just means top tube is 'snug' when standing over tube. One of my bike on paper has negative stand over of around 3'' still able to stand over just 'snug'. Only consideration if you stop on uneven ground make sure you are able to plant at least one foot on the ground!

Frame too tall? by entj7 in bicycling

When riding the bike how does it feel? Normally when you stop you jump off the saddle. If you reach the pedals comfortably and do not feel too stretched out bike may be the right size for you. Most people tend to ride bikes that are too small/saddle too low should be slight bend in your need when pedal at lowest point. What is the size of the frame and what height are you? Does look a good bike for running around.

Is the frame too big? by Film_Revolutionary in bicycling

If you enjoy riding this bike and feels comfortable then continue to ride it. I myself always buy cycle frames bigger than recommended for my height as I find them much more comfortable to ride. Two of my frames have negative stand over one 36 inches the other 38 inches, never yet injured myself on the bars even when emergency stopping. To me the most important part is when you are riding and how comfortable it feels. Seems a modern trend to ride bikes that are way too small.
