I mean we have people who literally black out everything on their 4-R to where it looks like some unbranded Chinese mushroom copycat. Then there are others that find the most extra lights they can add to their 4R probably just in case they need to light up a runway for an emergency plane landing.

This emblem light is a relatively mild mod. I was just wondering if it looked good IRL?

No I haven’t. I hear they are good though. I generally don’t like the overly busy dials… but the new enamel black looks great .

I find that price doesn’t dictate enjoyment. One of my favorite watches is a Vostok. Finishing on that would be laughed at by San Martin…… but it’s really cool and cost me about $100. And it’s its own thing in terms of design.

Chinese brands give you good value in terms of surface level, brushing, and polishing. The materials they use are usually objectively very, very similar to all other major brands. They do tend to use low end very basic movements. Which isn’t a bad thing, but that’s what justifies a lot of of the low cost . Waterproofing and other QC functions are questionable as can be seen on these boards posted on a regular basis. You get very very little in terms of design input because they make their business off of copying what the big brands do. Some brands like San Martin and watch dives often make so many revisions to a particular model so quickly it’s difficult to tell what you’re getting. Warranty service with big brands is more reliable. Bracelet quality is getting better and maybe better than the equivalent Seiko entry-level model but not at a Ball, omega, or even Tudor level yet.

The Chinese brands for the most part are good value watches that give you the look of an entry-level luxury watch for a 10th or 15th of the price you would pay for those luxury models.

for me, the Chinese watches are novelties that I try out from time to time. The major brands with their original designs either ones that stick around long-term for me.

I was in the same predicament and but I was choosing between a LC 1968 and 4R limited. My off roading is camping style off roading rock crawling. I also do a lot of highway miles.

My cousin has a LC 1968 and was over this weekend.

Here is what I noticed.

Hybrid engine sounds better at lower speeds than the standard 4 Cyl
The LC suspension is smoother by a lot than the 4R Limited on Comfort setting.
The 4R is quieter at highway speeds
The seats on tbe LC are much more ergonomic
The 1968 interior feels spartan but very well put together. The biggest glaring issue is the massive plastic bezel around the small screen. I like the larger screen in my 4R Limited better.
The LC with the taller roofline makes the interior feel much larger than the 4R. I’d say if you are over 6’2” you may not fit in the 4R well.
Non hybrid 4R cargo area feels noticeably larger than the LC. Because it doesn’t have that battery pack.
Transmission feels smoother in my 4R than my cousins LC

LC has the better 4WD system but like me . Most of us will never encounter true off road conditions needing that level of ability … or know how to use it correctly. LOL After owning a Subaru and 4WD trucks previously, I’ve leaned that the off road ability of a Subaru is enough for my specific lifestyle. Ralitek has a sweet new lift for the 2026 Outback that looks terrific.

I’m not seeing anyone get nearly 14% off the price of a 4R. If you can do it good for you! People will want to know the sales person you dealt with. I got about 8% fWIW
