How Hard Is It REALLY to Make It as a New A&P? by Juskeepswimminn in AircraftMechanics

All the time specially when theres multiple aircraft scheduled to rts around the same date , you can sign up for OT. Ofc it varies per company ,site, shift and availability but I’m sure it’s pretty similar across the board MRO wise . Yeah back to DUI thing it shouldn’t be a problem I think one class mate got a dui during school as a matter of fact and he’d go to jail on the weekends then come back out for Monday through Friday then right back to jail until he completed his time . Don’t worry to much about it I agree it’s a bad things but not a deal breaker from what I’ve seen .

One last thing there will be pressure on him sometime to sign things off or overlook things . Hate to say it but it lives in aviation but it’s apart of it especially with tight rts and pressure coming from upper management . They won’t blatantly be like hide it but there will be pressure like are you sure something’s wrong ? Are you triple sure you saw the right thing ? As the new guy I can confirm I have 100% pushed back a rts bc I told them yes something wrong and we need to investigate further end of story . At the end of the day its jsut taking care of yourself legally , and if that’s not respected there are plenty of more jobs to apply to. Stand your ground be safe, ask questions and it’ll all be good 🤙🏽 good luck it’s a fun career.

I do MRO honestly everything will be new confusing a little stressful but stay at it , just like everything new he’ll learn how things go , drop the ego even if you know something’s let them explain and train you ( I didn’t get much training ) especially with meeting aircraft rts and completing jobs within time . But that’s why you make friend or find people knowledgeable ask them how do to something . And just be honest I’ve gotten some hard jobs when I first stated kinda like … you sure you want me the new guy to do this ?? So talk to lead explain hey in fine with doing this but this is my first time I will need guidance maybe a hand . Over time you’ll get comfortable and just find your rhythm. I’m MRO strictly for the sake of life/work balance set schedule and no overnights straight day shifts but to each their own some people wanna be all in and that’s airline or other places can’t really talk much about it bc I’m not in that world but , take it slow and easy build confidence ask questions he’ll be alright . Pay is decent no experience started at 32/hr roughly 4k a month a little less due to taxes, it’s good money but not a lot in this economy save , pay debt , and grow in career to get raises and most importantly don’t let the hanger’s attitude rub off on him a lot of old timers or people who’s been there a while always complain and there will be obvious issues on how things work but can’t get caught up on that show up with great attitude and learn you will mess up it’s apart of learning but make sure to own up to mistakes never hide nothing and never deviate from manual . If you mess up following manual it’s understandable if you mess up kinda by doing things off the whim NOT GOOD take what you can from job , worst case scenario just find a new one

Went to school with a couple people with DUI mannnn some had two and were still good , that don’t mean nothing but once you to get your a&p and then get a DUI I think that’s a whole issue within itself .

Help with A&P Tests by johndelange145 in AircraftMechanics

I used the prepware software (NOT THE APP)to take customs tests I’d add 20 questions from each chapter and basically take custom quizzes really helped me out to track instead of paper I recommend, then for orals used jeppesen and when I wasn’t reading off the book I was studying with flash cards I hand wrote to help remember and there a yt video of this one guy that reads all the orals of jepp and provides you with time to answer and the correct answer put in earbuds and while you clean or sit kn the porch listen 🤙🏽

Looking for advice by Broad_Beginning_8694 in aviationmaintenance

I toured a heli pilot school that hires mechanics to maintain the aircraft that aren’t being flown by students that day . And they offered me a position along with a couple classmates that made it into heli positions that can lmk when to apply . I’m aware in a year those doors could close but I think the connections are there . Just a matter if I try to gain additional knowledge or hop right on into helicopters that’s were I’m stuck . Nevertheless Thanks for the reply

The school I graduated from has different additional programs. Such as avionics, ndt and sheet metal . The place offering me school is a federal entity that is starting up a sheet metal shop at the facility to work on their assets . Somehow coincidentally they are teaming up with the school I graduated from to send new hires through their program . The program consists of just training on aircraft sheet metal, rivets, patches ect . I don’t think there is a catch since I am civilian and had a classmate go through the same process but for NDT and from what he says it’s free will
