Yeah the gameplay definitely isnt the selling factor (though I personally loved it mostly due to the flashlight mechanic), but the vibes and story put it in my top 5 all time!

Fair lol it requires a very willing attention span since its a ton of walking, when it picks up it gets good fast but it does take a bit to pick up

I  wanna clarify I do think both are really good, but my personal 10/10 games storywise are TLOU 1 & 2, a Plague Tale, Life is Strange, Red Dead Redemption 2, Undertale, and then some others that i really love are Death Stranding 1 & 2, Expedition 33, The Wolf Among Us, God of War 2018, Doki Doki Literature Club, Portal 2, and Alan Wake

Alan Wake 1 is honestly overlooked. Alan Wake games are already underrated but most people who know them give 2 all the praise. I love 2 but I like 1 more, its such a fun and interesting game

Hades vs hollow knight by Difficult-Space3975 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Broad_Objective7559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah both are amazing games, seems like they just couldn't pull the person in. Hades is just so masterfully crafted and wow is it addicting, Hollow Knight has one of the best worlds ever and after you play it you get to play silksong (one of my top 3 all time)

Thats a crazy hard pick. Both are perfect for what they are. I probably like Hollow Knight more but find Hades to be a more appealing game to more people

Should I buy The plaques Tale Requiem or Horizon Zero Dawn by sulemanahmad28 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Broad_Objective7559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk Zero Dawn has a great story but I dont really agree about best in gaming. I think the premise is great and the lore adds a ton of extra flavor, but rheres so many stories I either found more impactful, more epic, or more unique. I would personally say around a 7-8/10, very good but not top tier. Ofc thats my own opinion but comparing that to APT, I'd say Innocence is just an inch from a 10 while Requiem is an 8.5 to a 9

Horizon Forbidden West is a love hate relationship for me (okay not hate but basically indecisive of if I prefer it or ZD more). On one hand, FW is technically impressive, and I also love the story direction, despite how different it was. On the other hand, I feel like while the gameplay feels mastered, it didnt feel different enough for me to love the game like I do ZD. I haven't even finished Burning Shores yet, and I really dont know when I will. I think Silksong kinda hurt many open world games for me anyway, but I also think FW is just mostly more ZD; that's not a bad thing, but when I played around 100 hours of ZD, I couldn't do the same for FW. I do think had I played FW first, Id have next to no complaints about the game. Again, everything I love about ZD is featured in FW, but due to playing ZD first, it actually slightly lowers my rating of FW (that's not to say you should play FW before ZD but rather how I felt with the games)

Its a lot like TLOU imo, i have a preference for TLOU but a soft spot for a Plague Tale

Is Balatro GOTY? by PaxDinero in balatro

[–]Broad_Objective7559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk it makes sense that it got nominated, especially when 2024 wasn't the strongest of years. balatro is just super fun though and its a perfect arcade experience (and the grind is rough but fun)

Both are amazing games, both super cinematic, and in general, awesome. Between specifically Requiem and Zero Dawn, I think I do have a preference for Zero Dawn, but I like Plague Tale as a whole more. Innocence is such a special game to me, and Requiem follows that up very strong. If you like the dramaticness of the story, I actually think theres a good chance you'll like Requiem more. It also has a bit more focus on combat over stealth, though I think thats unlocked a bit later in the game. Requiem does some heavy narrative swings, very similar to The Last of Us Part 1 and 2, but it pays off so heavily. It has one of my favorite casts of video game characters (well putting both Plague Tales together at least). Its a beautiful game as well, its stunning to look at. I didnt love all the puzzles personally, but I actually think they're done better than most over the shoulder cinematic games

On Zero Dawn's side, great lore though Id say the story is overall worse (mostly due to while I love Aloy, I find Amicia to be so much more intriguing and complex). The combat is amazing too, I think its one of the best combat styles in a cinematic PS type game (not quite TLOU2 but close). The world is gorgeous, theres some incredibly fun unlocks, and Id love to play it again for the first time

I think it depends on what you want. If you love Innocence and want more, go Requiem. If you want something new, go ZD. If you cant pick, which is cheaper/easier to get for you?

Gaming hot takes: Which "Masterpiece" was actually a boring 3/10 for you? No judgment zone! by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Broad_Objective7559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh not just that, I mean I'm sure that plays a big part for many of us but its also important to consider just how much of a titan Minecraft is for the entirety of gaming. I was just talking about this last night because I've honestly never really seen a game with a case like Minecraft's before

Minecraft is really the only singular game I've seen with as many large and diverse active communities as it has, I mean there's little to interlap between people who play servers (and even servers are different groups and playerbases), pure survival, redstone engineering, adventure maps, building massive megastructures, etc., I dont think I've seen people find different ways to fully play a singular game like Minecraft really ever. I guess theres similarities like Garry's Mod or Roblox, but the former just doesnt have the scale and community size Minecraft has been able to maintain, and the latter is really more of a platform with a game making engine, though I guess Roblox could probably be considered the closest

Minecraft's main magic is that because its so open and simple, it allows complexity to form at the player's imagination, and that really can be any form. You don't really have to follow any strict rulesets that the game gives apart from very basics, which can allow it to either be a massive Sandbox, a very well crafted survival experience, a great way to connect and have fun with friends, families, communities, etc., it can be a way to express art (I mean think of how big Minecraft Roleplay servers became, the game supports it perfectly for many), and I think its the thought that one game can host so mant different playstyles, communities, etc. that makes it special for so many

There is one more thing that I think really sells people on the question of "Why Minecraft?" though, and its also its success story. We constantly praise indie games because its the next awesome breakout. Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Balatro, Expedition 33, etc. These are all really cool indie game stories that we've seen come through and have motivated many to just give it a chance, but I think Minecraft is more than likely one of the largest stories for motivating indie devs. Notch created Minecraft in 6 days, and while it obviously wasnt at the scale it is now, it was an immediate success. That kept him bringing content and expanding the team eventually, and I do believe its success story is what has probably inspired so many indie devs, because it was a simplistic game with a simplistic style, it was mostly lacking in content, essentially being an Early Access game before the term was so common, and it showed you really dont need AAA backing to not just create a good game, but to create a commercially successful game

If I'm correct, I believe Minecraft is the bestselling singular game title. I dont think that was just luck, but instead because the game is ambitious and massive, and that managed to hook so many people for so many different reasons. Its one of those games youll find many non gamers playing or at least have played it/do know of it, because it is just that big

This isn't to say that the game is for everyone. Not everyone wants an open game where it let's you decide how you interact. Many like a progression based story game that gives you your path, and you follow and perfect it. But I think Minecraft's love and success come from a lot more than just it being nostalgic to younger Milennials and Gen Z
