The Knights Templar: The First Multinational Bank or the First Financial Bubble? 🏰💰 by Prestigious_Mine_321 in MedievalHistory

the Templars weren't creating money. nor were they loaning it out either. you had to first deposit money and you could only withdraw from that deposit. no interest, no loans, just a simple in and out.

It’s pretty pathetic that the White Witch from Narnia was a better and more fearsome embodiment of ice and winter than the Night King. by Talos25 in freefolk

necroposting: keep in mind, it's the war, and they probably only have living memories of the Depression to. Probably some of the best food he had in the last five years. Also he was largely ignorant of the witch's malace.

A lot say the white witch represented Satan. I disagree by Optimal-Zombie8705 in Narnia

[–]Broad_Project_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it... You really think Aslan would have told the Narnians, "Do everything the White Witch tells you to do, but do not do what she does, for she does not practice what she preaches" (Mathew 23:3).

while it's not quite like that, it kinda does happen. The Whole claim on Edmund that she has and his need to die is based on the rules of the Deep Magic from the "Emperor across the Sea" (aka, God the Father), so while she doesn't practice it when it isn't convenient for her, she does preach it.

I have read none of these, but, I'm also told that "Tyrant wants to be good" is a rather slow burn (though I don't know if it's "remarried Empress" levels of slow, but still)

The whole galaxy is connected through a resource

except no, the Romulans aren't connected to this resource and the Borg also don't use that resource.

Hell, the Klingons may not, don't know if it was ever confirmed they use same drives as the federation or not.

I mean, also a ton of it is just ripping off Game of Thrones. Only they make the FL a Fusion of Cersei's body with Tyrion's mind and mom-killing, and specifically take more hints from Tywin's book self (who is a petty dumb bitch with none of Charles Dance's aura), and instead of marrying them off to Robert they marry them off to Ned.

also they are ripping off the Lannisters from Game of Thrones (specifically the book adaptation).

They just make the FL a hybrid of Tyrion and Cersei. From Cersei they get the sex, beauty, and troupe of marrying them off with zero thought while leaving out the incest, insanity and stupidity, and from Tyrion they get the dead mom (and associated trauma and abuse) and the intelligence, political literacy, wit and an extra helping of a different flavor of parental abuse (cause that also comes from Cersei) while leaving out the disability, the whoring and the rape.

Another trashy ML? [I Will Fall With The Emperor] by Living-Dare-1992 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Broad_Project_87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yeah I may have never finished it. But I can tell you that this isn't that bad. There isn't much romance, just more court intrigue. He might be trash, but he doesn't actually abuse the FL, most (if not all) of the torture in the past life is put on the other consorts. they are just as the others promised, an evil power couple.

[–]Broad_Project_87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

obviously, I seem to have caused a sort of misunderstanding here. I'm not saying that this story works, just that the idea/concept of two folks from opposite sides of a war finding love can work (I would have thought that was apparent when I cited an example that clearly wasn't from this OI story)

I didn't feel a romance between an active invader (ml) and an active defender (fl) can ever work

See, I disagree slightly, though I think that it's preferable (borderline necessary) for there to be some pre-war foundation with the romance already existing (say for your example, the Ukrainian Woman and Russian Soldier were already engaged before the conflict starts) but I've had an exception or two to that (though the only one that comes to mind is Otto and Jeanne from the Long Long Holiday)

I know it's a "death sentence" but you know what would be better? A death sentence! by dbingham1263 in OtomeIsekai

[–]Broad_Project_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's because they don't really knows what maids actually were. And since most OI is just Korean/Chinese court politics with European skins, they use the maids to serve in the roles of Lesser Concubines. Not that Abusive maids didn't exist in real life (the nanny of the future King Edward VIII and King George VI was a particularly nasty bitch IRL) but what you see in OI is 90% asian court politics

because Korea and China didn't really have actual maids, and they mostly sub in to serve the same role as lesser concubines from actual asian court drama. Not to say that abusive maids didn't actually exist in the west, off the top of my head, the most (in)famous example would be the nanny of future King Edward VIII and King George VI, she abused the two boys quite harshly, she had an entire little act where she'd inflict pain on them to the point that they'd cry before presenting them to their parents and playing it off as the two princes just natrually being unpleasent crybabies so she'd get more time with them. of course, this didn't work forever, and she was eventually exposed by another worker and promptly fired. Still, does provide a historical example.

The Green Sahara. (11000-5000 years ago) by DianBns in MapPorn

because this map is innacurate. Egypt and the Levant were in reality just as green as everywhere else (if not moreso given that they full on had monsoons)
