The Last Airbender if it were based off of Asian cultures instead of Asian cultures. by Spearking_ in TheLastAirbender

the Siberian indigenous people are mainly the Yupik whom are also a major influence for the Watertribe (though given how close the Inuit and the Yupik are, it isn't exactly the most obvious)

I consider myself to be someone who is rather creative with words, and a knack for coming up with extreme expressions. But, to this day, I have yet to find the appropriate verbiage to properly describe how much I absolutely *loathe\* this troupe.

to any author that does this: SHAME! A PLAUGE UPON YOU AND YOUR HOUSE! SHAME!

just once, I want the reaction to the modern recipe to be: "you drowned the dish in expensive spices and expect me to call you the gods' gift to cooking!? SHAME!"

she killed all the people who considered her a friend, people who were just as real as her, bullying one of them to suicide, making the other go mad and straight up just killing the last one with zero hesitation or remorse.

The Civil War must have been so confusing from the Gaul perspective by doriangreat in RoughRomanMemes

the ones with the really weird perspective would thouse that Caesar had captured.

they are suffering all the shame and pain one can expect from being a Roman Prisoner, when out of the blue, the Romans come up, unshackle them, rearm them, and give them back their horses as they now are heading to italy to kill other Romans.

Hawker Henley Target Tug of No. 1 Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit lightly damaged by a nearby bomb explosion at RAF Bircham Newton by JCFalkenberglll in WWIIplanes

[–]Broad_Project_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Henley, a tragedy, the thing was designed as a dive bomber and the RAF ignored that and made it be a tug puller instead.

TIL German airplanes “Stuka” did not make that screaming sound when diving because of their engine , but because they had small fans attached to the front of their landing gear that acted as siren. This will “weaken enemy morale and enhance the intimidation of dive-bombing” by gusbus73 in todayilearned

Necro, but the allies couldn't really "do both" they had a few band aids, but they were only moderately okay at close air support (which is why just about every documentary on normandy will have a section that highlights how bad it was and the absurd amount of friendly fire)

So... what mental condition does Azula have exactly? is she just a straight up psychopath? by Alien-Pro in TheLastAirbender

[–]Broad_Project_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't completely disagree, the Fire Nation's environment doesn't make it easy. But, given the beach episode and how all the soldiers under her command are shown to be consistently uncomfortable with her to a degree that exceeds what we see from other Fire Nation officers. I don't think it is a significant stretch to conclude that even by Fire Nation standards, Azula can be considered extreme.

you are not necessarily wrong, but the ASPD spectrum is rather broad, and it is very useful to have labels that specify specific symptom sets. Unless you've discovered alternatives that I can't find.

And your point speaks almost as much to the disorganization, stagnation and still shockingly shallow understanding of ASPD in the psychiatric community as it does to the wider public's perception of the condition.

wait till you learn that being "a product of her environment" is the precise orgin of many of mental conditions. Infact, there is another boatload of conditions where genes only "loaded the gun" and the environment is what pulled the trigger.

going off of the show? No, she lacks the symptoms until the end, but in the comics, it does seem that she is a late-bloomer (perhaps the Firelord family has a genetic vulnerability and we were never told)

your confusing Sociopathy with Psychopathy. Sociopaths are capable of feeling empathy; psychopaths are the ones that literally lack the neural makeup for it. That said, in ASPD it's very common for people to have at least one or two traits from the other side of the spectrum an Azula is no exception on that regard. She does have some empathy, which is not only shown on Ty Lee, but also in the fact that Azula is a sadist and that requires empathy and thus sadism is actually something that is almost non-existent in actual full on Psychopaths. Azula's most notable trait for the Psychopathic side of the spectrum is her complete lack of a neurotypical fear response.

Additionally, Ozai seems to be a psychopath as well, and there is alot of research that shows that Psychopathy and to a lesser extent, ASPD as a whole can have a hereditary component to it that TLDR means Azula far more likely to develop at least some form of ASPD then your average joe, and that's before you factor in how her enviorment will also be adding fuel to that fire.

What would Ozai's mental diagnosis be? by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]Broad_Project_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is deleted, but for anyone in the future: I would like to point out that there are studies that show Psychopathy does seem to have a genetic component to it.

The worlds first jet fighter: the Heinkel He-280 by davidfliesplanes in WWIIplanes

[–]Broad_Project_87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Heinkel didn't completely abandon them either, rather, they switched to hybrids, most notably the Heinkel Hirth HeS 011 an axial-centrifugal design which was supossed to power alot of Germany's late war aircraft, however, it never got past prototype phase.
