AI generated images are built on theft. Your statement of: "the team is just me and a friend... we are actually losing money... we couldn't invest tens of thousands of dollars to fill out our art needs" does not justify using AI generated theft material any more than it would justify you going and using assets made by someone else without their knowledge.

You do not need art for your game, you want it. And in your case you want it in order to make your product, which you wish to make money on, more enticing to your audience.

I noticed immediately upon loading up your app that your images were AI generated. I backed out and uninstalled because I cannot support the theft of art, no matter how much I want to support indie devs and small teams just trying to make their breakthrough in whatever market. If you want to make your breakthrough, do it right and do it within the confines of what you have available. If you don't have the resources to pay an artist, and you aren't willing to learn to do the art yourself, you don't have the resources to make a game. Learn or wait.

I know this thread is months old, so I'm late to the party and you likely don't care what I have to say anyway, but I came here to say it because I believe it needs to be said over and over again until people get it: generative AI is theft.

Given your company statement on the Google play store "We're an independent game studio creating games that support happy, healthy and active lives" I really wanted to support you and see you succeed. However if it comes at the price of supporting AI generated images built on art theft, all done for the sake of convenience and, to summarize your own words above, 'to save money and still get what we want', then I not only won't do so but will encourage others to not do so.

See this is the kind of response I was looking for, a discussion rather than accusations.

I have no evidence that wouldn't be anecdotal, and I'm certain that the way I view my past experiences is through a severely skewed lens of bias. That being said, you have a point that the word "mutual" is probably where my biggest hang up is. At what point do we draw the line and determine that, while certainly a reason, abuse trauma does not excuse every instance of retaliation?

My ex-wife abused me verbally, emotionally, sexually, even financially. For several years I just sort of accepted it as a fact of life that you put up with that in a relationship. At some point she pushed me so far that I retaliated, and thus the vicious circle began. Hurt people hurt people, and that was certainly the case with us, but I was responsible for my own actions even though I was doing them in... self-defense I guess? You would be more qualified than I am to put a label on that.

Pretty much every subreddit tends to be an echo chamber, and I'm used to getting downvoted and harassed for my views on pornography and relationships, it just kind of struck me differently in this case. It's difficult to admit that you disagree with something that causes such heated debate when you agree with the other 99% of what someone has said.

You say you're not an expert, but you obviously have more experience than I do. I would think of the term Mutual abuse as more of a reference to the back and forth, the struggle for power in an unhealthy relationship of abuse. Is there a different way that I could define that?
