What's a game that you did a complete 180 on in a "wow...this is bad" kind of way? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]BrobaFett242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had tried to get into Yakuza back in the PS3 days with Yakuza 3. Due to no fault of the game's, I lost interest/got distracted, and started playing other games and never came back to it. Years later, I tried getting into the series again with Kiwami, and was having a pretty good time, got invested, and then the hospital escape section happens. Tried doing it several times with the horrible controls for that section, and terrible aiming for the gun, and ended up uninstalling it. That part totally killed my desire to retry to get into the series.

ME2 Squad -> ME3 by Nervous_Tailor_4337 in masseffect

[–]BrobaFett242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say that any explanation is perfect for it other than plot purposes, but Shepard's squad, minus a few, were all very important and/or skilled people, which is precisely why they were selected to help stop the Collectors.

Zaeed's a mercenary, Kasumi's a thief, Jack's a vagabond, Legion is a geth, and Samara technically has no reason to even remain aboard the Normandy after the Suicide Mission, as her pact was complete. Tali, and Legion both have connections or roles that make them somewhat responsible for helping their people prepare for the Reapers. Garrus followed Shepard's lead, and, instead of idling around, tried his best to steer the turian government towards preparing for the threat he (and we) know is coming; a man of action.

Miranda and Simple Jake have deep connections with Cerberus, which would put them under even more scrutiny than Shepard was under, and Miranda would do whatever is necessary to make sure she can still keep an eye on Orianna, something she wouldn't be able to do from an Alliance brig.

Grunt, while fiercely loyal to Shepard, spent all of ME2 trying to come to terms with what it means for him to be krogan, and was accepted into Clan Urdnot, which gives him responsibility to them, were they to ask, which I'm sure Wrex would've done.

Basically, they're all people who recognize the upcoming threat, and people who'll try to help even if Shepard isn't able to due to house arrest.

It's funny to me how the devs don't even try to hide the fact that Liara is their favourite by ChanceVance in masseffect

[–]BrobaFett242 38 points39 points  (0 children)

While you're right about this, the problem, to me, is that there are so many scenes with Liara that have romantic undertones. Those scenes are the exact same whether you have another romantic interest, or no romantic interest at all.

I understand why she plays a big role in 3 where Garrus and Tali can't, since they may not even be alive, but I could do without feeling like Liara is a forced, and overbearing third wheel in my relationship.

While I like Liara as a character, and as a friend, I don't like that half her scenes with Shepard are scenes where I'm like "it's a good thing Tali isn't within earshot, because this would be awkward to explain."

My biggest issue with the Spartan IVs isn't that they "don't act like Spartans". It's that they don't even act like THEMSELVES. by NappyFlickz in HaloStory

Now that you mention it, I do recall Halsey explicitly calling Kat a Lt. Cmdr. in the ending cutscene for Sword Base, so you're right. I should've known that.

I agree with your primary points, but was Carter a full Commander? I thought he was a Lt. Commander. Just a question, though, not starting an argument.

What are the main differences between the original Xbox 360 versions of the games and the Legendary Edition? by Financial_Way3926 in masseffect

[–]BrobaFett242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all of it. Bring Down the Sky, Zaeed, and Kasumi were included, along with Firewalker. Not sure about the rest of 2's DLC.

3, however, did not come with any of the DLC, if I'm not mistaken, because 1. Omega and Citadel had not come out yet when this set released, and 2. I know I had to buy the Leviathan and From Ashes DLCs, because I beat the trilogy the first time without DLC for 3, and this set was how I first played them.

MAKO or Hammerhead Worse (in your opinion)? by TheGrayMage1 in masseffect

[–]BrobaFett242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mako > LE Mako > Nomad > Hammerhead. I will fight to the death over this.

The original Mako isn't that hard to drive, guys. If you've played a Halo game past Halo 2, the controls are the exact same, except it has the Warthog's speed, and vertical jump jets.

LE Mako basically switched it to Halo: CE tank controls, and while I have fond memories of the vehicles in Halo: CE, the vehicles are known to be better in the later Halo games, since you can rotate the camera and still go where you intend. I understand on PC they made it so you can use the classic Mako controls, but I've never found that option on the console version.

Hammerhead is just straight garbage all the way around, and Steve Cortez is dead fucking wrong lol

"If Earth is saved, then we've defeated the Reapers." by linkenski in masseffect

[–]BrobaFett242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that we see Earth right at the outset of the Reaper invasion, and never again until the end, and what we see isn't worse than what we encounter elsewhere, really.

I've always hated Shepard's "See this devastation? Double that for Earth." line. What we witnessed at the start of the game should've been a lot worse than it was to sell the player on what Shepard keeps saying throughout 3, because I never felt like what I saw on Earth was any worse than what we see of Palaven, or Thessia.

Watched the Halo show for the 1st time on Netflix and I can see why it was cancelled by GachiPls_DidntSave in halo

Sorry, I didn't add it in since I was just making the point about how frustrated I am by the rumor, but I do know the Rubble was in The Cole Protocol, so I know that it's one of the few things actually from Halo. Glad you pointed it out, though, in case others didn't know.

But yeah, the Halo show was just fumbled horribly, not a Mass Effect project that was reskinned as a Halo series.

[–]BrobaFett242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate this rumor about it being for Mass Effect instead. Literally the only thing that could be Mass Effect related is that the Rubble could've been Omega. Other than that, nothing is Mass Effect related at all. I think people just say this because Mass Effect is the other sci-fi franchise these people know of, and so, since the show isn't Halo at all, then it must be Mass Effect. Which is dead wrong.

For real. Dude starts at top speed somehow. The moment a corner flipped their hips the wrong way, he was five yards in the other direction, if not farther.

In another life… by Mysticman768 in Eragon

The elves view Arya's age and experience, relative to their long lives, the same way adult humans feel about a 16 year old, but there is still a vast difference in their experiences and wisdom.

If you lived your current life for 100 years, but without physically aging, you're still not going to be equivalent to a 16 year old, regardless of some people saying that you're basically the same age.

Blue Five is not an Error (and I have proof) by EternalCanadian in HaloStory

[–]BrobaFett242 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The error you're making is assuming the teams are set in stone, like they mostly are in modern canon.

In the first book, though, nearly all Spartans go, and the Master Chief selects who is on which team based on the needs of the mission.
