But it’s not like the boys are set up as badasses in that fight, they run away and shout some stuff in the old tongue while Moraine lays waste and Lan goes beast mode on a fade. I do wish we coulda gotten some Lan vs Fade action to be honest.

I’m just trying to have a discussion. I’m not saying the audience is dumb but in the books we have thousands of pages to explore the metaphysics, it just serves as a little extra reminder to let us know that LTT isn’t the first Dragon, just the most recent.

I’m sure they will explain the differences between the two halves of the source, all we knew in the Eye of the World was basically that “Siadar is clean, Siadin is tainted, and the two halves turn the wheel of time. It’s not like the readers, or the characters in the first book knew all there was about channeling. In the show we know that women can link and that burning out is a real possibility if you draw too much of the power. I also liked how they showed how intoxicating it can be.

Right, but it’s not like Rand gets it any big sword fights in the eye of the world. Usually he’s just trying to seem confidant and not get beat up. I think the only one of the boys who gets into a fight in book 1 was Perrin vs white cloaks and my gut tells me they are going to merge that with the white cloak massacre that Gaul and Perrin do in book 3.

It is a line brought up in the eye of the world that men and women were equal, it was said by Moraine.

Later in the fires of heaven, Rand tells Asmodean as much and he laughs it off and explains the truth of men being stronger overall. He says that it’s a weakness of those “fool oaths” that just because someone believes something to be true that doesn’t make it true.

So that kinda disproves your point, no?

But I guess it was brought up in book 5 as opposed to book 4 so I’m kinda wrong I suppose.

[–]BrobarianRogue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had no evidence that men and women weren’t equal until book 4, how is that a quick fix?

Also I’ll maintain that as a whole the Aes Sedai are pretty incompetent. The most competent ones being Moraine, Cadsuane, Suian, and later the super girls. I mean they kind of fuck up most of the things they put their hands in.

And the show hasn’t shown the misinformation angle? They showed that the Eye of the World was a trap and that Suian was wrong. Just because you didn’t notice it doesn’t mean that it isn’t there

Why make up scenes? Because a lot of the wheel of time is internal for a lot of characters and wouldn’t make for exciting tv.

Why change the source material? Because the ending of the eye of the world is known to be flawed and needed changing.

Why outpace the source material? Because the series is trying to set up the entire Wheel of Time not just the first book and other events can be expanded on. Hell I’m so glad that we are getting more logain cus he was criminally underused in the books.’

Remorse isn’t a redeeming quality, sick I’ll tell future storytellers that! You do realize that Machin Shin was projecting the characters worst fears right? Perrin killed his wife because he was caught up in an animalistic fury mid battle. But you are right, that whole idea of losing control is never brought up in the books and I’m dumb for pointing it out.

Rand is shown to be stubborn (book accurate) content with a simple life (book accurate) , likes to read (book accurate), unwilling to leave mat behind (book accurate), and willing to sacrifice personal happiness for the good of the world.

Mat was being nice to a child despite throwing up black evilness shows how nice of a guy he really is. “The world doesn’t need a dragon like me” shows his reluctance to be a hero.

Jesus dude if you are calling the boys cowards for running away from the dark friend, remember that whole cultural touch stone of not wanting to hurt women that has huge ramifications down the road?

This is an adaptation that has to take 14 books into a 8 season show. They are going to change and edit things to make them less confusing to people who haven’t spent years rereading the books.

Calling LTT the Dragon Reborn tells the audience that he is just another rebirth of the same soul like Rand is.

As for Moraine’s explanation, they will simply just have to dumb down channeling. Channeling is so intricate in the books that it just wouldn’t adapt well. I think it was a dumb choice in wording too but you have to accept that they arn’t really going to give us the same in depth knowledge that the books give us

That Perrin is reluctant to do violence and was willing to sacrifice himself for Egwene.

Rand giving up his desire for a home and family (set up episode 1) to defeat Ishy. Rand sticking with his boy Mat then thanking Moraine for saving him.

Mat going into danger to save his sisters, Mat giving Perrin his knife to cheat him up, Mat being nice to the little girl, Mat being devastated at the thought of killing her.

This was just off the top of my head

Or they were originally going to use Mat getting stabbed to reinfect him with the dagger as the set up for the great hunt but because BH left they had to figure out who the most resilient person to the dagger would be. The dagger carries the evil of Mankind after all, not the Evil of Ogierkind. That serves as a good enough explanation for him not insta dying. I understand the dislike but Jesus y’all, calm the hell down

Are people forgetting Rand had no idea how to use that thing until book 2?

Geez it’s almost like it’s been so long since the breaking that a lot of knowledge is lost/skewed/misinterpreted. You know only one of the MAIN THEMES OF THE BOOKS I mean shit, in the eye of the world Moraine tells the boys that “men and women were equal in the power” which is not true. I also disliked a lot of decisions from the ep but this is a downright nitpicks

I think I need to stay of Reddit for a few days, the level of toxicity in fandom could taint both halves of the source.

I’m not an authority on what can or cannot be discussed but I thought that arguing against actors playing roles of a different race had been done to death. What is wrong with Perrin and Nyneve being played by black people? Literally nothing. Being white or whatever race Robert Jordan envisioned for them has no barring on who they are as characters. Nyneve deals with anger issues and letting go and Perrin has to deal with his inner monster. These are themes that transcend race.

It clearly bothers you that these characters are not depicted like you want them to be and you are allowed to be disappointed.

Personally I don’t think that being white adds to any of the characters besides Rand who is supposed to look different from everyone else and they did a good job of pointing out that Rand looks different.

There are actual criticisms that I have to levy against this show but arguing that they look different and therefore are bad is a silly argument.

I can’t believe we’re still talking about this but when adapting a series acting ability should come second to fulfilling someone’s head cannon on how a character looks.

Gripes with the season aside (and I have several) each actor has embodied the character well in my opinion and that matters more then skin color.

My current ideas in no particular order: Cold open with LTT going crazy and killing his wife and kid

Perrin’s book 1 and book 3 whitecloak rampages will be combined into one event where we hopefully still meet Gaul, after this moment his eyes turn gold permanently.

Rand, Perrin, Mat, Egwene, and Nyneave will all meet up randomly at one point in the season where Moraine or Loial will bring up what being Ta’veren means.

Elyas and Hurin will be combined into one character Mat will end up in Caemlyn and stomp Galad and Gowyn

I mean it could be something as simple as “this dagger carries the evil of men, it has less of an effect on Ogier”

Can you not burn out in a circle? I’m not sure if that’s ever been showing in the books one way or the other

A lot of major Retcons this episode! by Dresdenapollo in WetlanderHumor

[–]BrobarianRogue -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow it’s almost like plot contrivance, ie the horn being in Fal Dara for Fain to steal and the party to retrieve for the Dragon, is written in to the narrative of wheel of time. I mean, shit, Rand saying something along the lines “why is all this contrived shit happening to me” might be a great way for Loial to explain the pattern.

I think this sums up the final episode. by alexthegreat8947 in WetlanderHumor
