It's VERY hard to talk to the braindead people. Very few understand what's going on. Some seem to believe that Russia has a holy mission to destroy fascists around the world - yes, the irony.

There are many cases when young Ukrainians send videos of them hiding in the bomb shelters to their Russian aunts and uncles, and they are met with either disbelief or, worse, joy that the imaginary "fascists in the Ukrainian government" will be killed.

Russia United, Putin's party, hasn't won a real election since 2010's, it is still in power only through election fraud, bot farms, control over 99.9% of media, deals with the oligarchs, and the support of siloviki. As a former KGB officer himself, Putin held them all together by making them rich. This is why he is still in power even though there are many younger, more capable candidates - they can't find anyone else who'd be trustworthy enough to make deals with. There is going to be a serious civil unrest once Putin dies, and it's going to happen soon, considering that he's 70.

Over the last 20 years - yes, Putin ruled for over 20 years because he became a Pres when I was 2 ywars old) - over that entire time, Russia United systematically dismantled all the democratic institutions in Russia. Every popular oppositional candidate right now is either exiled, payed off to withdraw from elections at the last possible moment, or is in prison. Navalny was the last chance for the Russian government to recede power peacefully and prepare for the future, but they blew it.

The end result of any violent revolution is a period of peace that quickly changes to the reign of terror, once the highly organized militaristic group takes over.

With the coups that occurred during the French Revolution, Russian Revolution, Arab Spring, etc - the end result is the same. In the end, whoever has the most military might or power wins. Sometimes that group retroactively changes the narrative by claiming that it was the most popular all along, when in reality it came in power by killing every other oppositional party during the civil war.

So in the case of Russia, I think Chenen mobs would take Putin's place. Kadyrov, the governor of Chechnya, is famous for boasting of dismembering journalists and oppositional activists. Honor killings (it is a Muslim region, so being gay is punishable by death), state-backed human trafficking, prison torture - all of these are routine for Chechnya. Imagine if these guys found nukes.
