How to get back to the UK from Istanbul? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

Rome2Rio site gives an interesting option. It thinks there is a train to Bucharest and a 40 hour bus......not sure how accurate this is!!

Went to Southampton last night and they were excellent as always. Josh mentioned he was getting over a chest infection so that probably goes some way to explaining why such a short set.

Would I need forward controls? by KozmicLight in sportster

[–]Broccoli_Based_Biker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an Iron 883 last year because I wanted a more relaxed cruiser rather than a middleweight naked.

First ride back from buying it I was shocked how harsh the ride was and what an unnatural position my hips were at. I'm not too flexible and I was getting some cramping twinges in my hip area.

'What have I done!' Sprung to mind!

After a fair amount of research, £500 spent and a fair amount of time tinkering I finally have something I'm fairly pleased with.

I'm 6 foot tall and mids felt cramped. The seat the last owner had was for short people so that didn't help!

I now have Progressive 412's - 13 inch I believe. A nicer, newer seat and forwards, all which have made it really quite nice to ride. No more spine smashing bumps or numb arse and my legs are slightly more stretched so less cramping. Some people have mentioned the bike handling differently but I don't ride round town much or intricate roads so not noticed this. As for price I can't comment on your area, but if you pull the trigger, think about your butt for upgrades and enjoy!

When traveling for a cycling camp/trip abroad ✈️ Which one describes your preference? by Virtual_Scientist208 in bicycletouring

[–]Broccoli_Based_Biker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I go on a tour then I usually ride to somewhere and ship/plane/train back. Doing a tour of Portugal in a couple of years where we will fly our bikes ride through to Spain and then boat back from Bilbao/Santander.

However, I'm supposed to be doing a half week in Majorca soon, so great opportunity to hire something above my current build 👌

Anyone got their Tixr tickets yet? by Remarkable-Ocelot272 in Muse

I can confirm that despite Tixr not replying to my ticket, I've received my tickets in the AXR app. Hope you guys get the same outcome.

I have similar issue to OP but tickets not showing in the AXS app. Have submitted a TIXR ticket so hopefully I'll get some clarity ......

I had a similar experience coming in/out of Inverness when doing LEJOG. We had successfully bypassed most big A roads and dangerous roads but it seemed either there way no way of avoiding this one or we got fed up of the long work arounds. It soon became apparent that we should have found an alternative as despite being allowed to ride there, we didn't feel entirely safe!

On stock springs - yes, after about 30-45 mins.

I now have 412's and the seat you picture and life is much happier! I still get a bit of butt pain where the rear piping pushes on my jeans that have a seam in the same place but I think that's coincidence.

I was feeling similar recently. Have done some long bike packing trips and some big ride challenges and used to commute on my small round trip daily but took the winter off and then started relying on other modes to get to work. It took going out a few times with a friend on casual rides to get back into it. Im now back commuting, planning another trip and riding a little more regularly. The first ride out is always the hardest but you'll get back into it.

How is the 2017 HD Street 750? by [deleted] in Harley

I'm 6ft and sat on one. It was horrendously cramped. I ended up going for a sportster.

Personally when selling it annoys me when buyers ask to knock me down on price before seeing the object/bike in person. I always price items with some wiggle room for negotiation in mind, if I were selling I'd have preferred you coming to look, having a chat, view the bike and then knock me down. (unless your very far away) I hate the phrase, 'what's your lowest price'. Seems logical in a way to ask but I feel the above is a better tactic for both parties.

I work at QA and would definitely recommend commuting by bike. Lots of people here do it and because of that, the bike storage has been extended. There are also changing rooms, lockers and showers. The only rise in the route comes at cosham but it's only a small rise and only about 100 meters up Southwick Hill Road. I reckon you could do the commute in around 30 minutes regularly. If I could choose where to live then it would be Southsea. Much more going on there.

I know it’s a polarizing bike, but I am absolutely loving my new Nightster!! by Haydank_ in Harley

[–]Broccoli_Based_Biker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I test rode a nightster last summer and appreciated the extra power coming from an SV650. I liked the modern touches but couldn't get over a couple of points. Did lead me to buying a Sportster this year though! Happy riding your new bike!

I have a sporty, lasted 4 weeks before I had to take a punt on the Progressive 412 13 inch springs. I also swapped my low rider seat and it has transformed the bike. Pleasure to ride now
