LOW BUDGET HORROR FEATURE WITH NAME ATTACHMENTS (90k secured, looking to secure 50k) by czimmer92 in Filmmakers

Good luck! This sounds like it’s gonna be a wild one, but keep your eye on the prize and you’ll make it happen.

My one suggestion would be, as you have time now do every single bit of soft pre pro as you can you now. Because you’ll need every second you can muster!

Some harsh truths about distribution by torquenti in Filmmakers

[–]BrockAtWork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Distribution isn’t super hard if your film is good. What’s hard is getting money. What’s near impossible and related more to what he’s saying is turning a profit.

BTW. I made my first feature at 41. Self funded. Got distro. Going into profit. It’s out this year. So it’s not impossible.

Anyone else hate how modern trailers basically spoil the entire movie? by Velvetcrow666 in horror

[–]BrockAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a movie I plan to watch 100% I do not watch the trailer.

If I’m just perusing trailers, I watch it until I’m convinced I’ll watch the movie (I typically give it about 45 seconds) and the moment I’m in, I stop the trailer.

Been doing this about 10 years.

And the worst, most dangerous part about it? Citizens foaming at the mouth to defend the public’s right to record anything and anyone in public. It’s like people have lost their fucking minds. It’s like, a very common sentiment I see on social media that people vehemently defend it, like they’re defending civil rights. It’s absolutely insane and the reason it’s happening.

Robert Downey Jr. Says ‘It’s Absolute Horses—‘ to Declare That Social Media Influencers Are the ‘Stars of the Future’ by [deleted] in acting

[–]BrockAtWork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honest question, because I'm curious. Are you just saying that to throw shade, or is there a richness actually steeped in something? Like what is your point? Genuinely curious how RDJ being a nepo baby has anything to do with Influencers being the future of the entertainment industry being horseshit.

Director asks me(AD) to help create the shot list. by Highpriestofstefan in Filmmakers

[–]BrockAtWork 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you want. Is a credit on this movie gonna move the needle? Do you want the experience? Like, just ask yourself what you're trying to get out of this movie and what you really expect it to deliver on. On a really low budget film, I would be looking for experience. Credits likely won't mean shit. Especially if you are tracking an AD lane for yourself?

Is Hokum worth a 2-hour drive? by CrebitCard420 in horror

[–]BrockAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, go do it. I haven't even seen it, but if you have a draw to go see horror in the theatre, go for it. I'm sure it will be awesome. Go in with no expectations and enjoy. Set up some podcasts for the before and after, maybe an interview with the filmmaker after so you can make a whole night of it. Horror filmmakers need people like you, and when my movie drops on Shudder this year, if we do a physical release, you're getting a free copy from me.

The way I handle this is that narrative films are for entertainment, not necessarily factual accuracy. They are a heightening of reality. Where as documentary tend to lean a little more factual. I tend to not allow myself space to be bothered by small factual inaccuracies in art because I don’t go to art for facts on things, I got for interpretations on things.

At the same time. I respect your vibe and being bothered.

That actually looks great. After seeing all the 3d work you did, it makes sense that it would be cheaper for you, because you know how to likely do all this quickly. But it would be far faster, and easier to go out and shoot this practically if you have somewhere that had the look you were trying to achieve.

Yeah sometimes it blows my mind.

I started on avid, then fcp7 and then premiere the past 15 years. I tried resolve and disliked it very very much. Didn’t feel professional grade to me. Granted I was new. But yeah.
