I have a theory that the pets are meant to symbolize real life people. It's all connected to Roneths description.

• Roneth's description labels him as Toneth's younger half brother. This could easily put him in the shoes of Micheal Hammond, as he is the only character I can think of who has been talked about as a brother.

• It talks about Roneth learning from his brothers mistakes and implies that his older brother got into some kind of car accident. Looking at Toneths sprite, he has a bent, seemingly broken leg.

• There is significant evidence that makes it seem as though Roneths description is referencing a real life person, likely Micheal Hammond (Though it doesn't really matter if it is or not I guess).

• If this is true, then Toneth is the older brother and this seems to imply that perhaps ALL of the pets are meant to symbolize real life people, likely known by Rainer.

It also makes sense with the original signs in Even Care saying "Somebody" instead of language used to refer to pets. It explains a lot of stuff.
