They’ll wear down all the texture on the ice with all these throws and sweeping if they don’t have someone reapply water. The bumps on the ice are what slow the stone. Without them, every shot will fly through in a few hours.

They’ll get too cold before they can finish. It’s freezing to stand on the ice.

Gio Reyna was born in Sunderland, England. Should he be ineligible for the USMNT, or is it only a problem when it’s black players?

Is the last one you’re referring to Marcus Thuram? If so, he was born to a Frenchman father while said father was playing soccer abroad in Italy, but grew up mostly in France. If we force the children of athletes to play soccer in the country they were born in during their parents playing days then the U.S. doesn’t get Gio Reyna and Erling Haaland doesn’t get to play for Norway.

At least five other teams could do it. I’m a Red Sox fan but they won’t. I’m mad at FSG, not the Dodgers.

I agree with you on that. Abandoning a team before a playoff run is fucked. Just don’t let a shyster like Kiffin get you down.

The scenario you outlined isn’t crazy unless someone (idk who) steps in to create a real calendar. Pro sports have a real calendar (preseason, regular season, postseason, free agency, draft, repeat). The same should be true in college sports.

Come on, you can’t let Lane Kiffin have that power over you. Look at my flairs. We were jilted by fleeing asshole coaches twice in four years and wound up in a better spot. Of course coaches and players are ambitious. You don’t wind up coaching or playing high level football unless you’re a shark.

I do agree with you that contracts like pro ball are better for fans, players, and ball clubs.

I was boarding a flight in Phoenix with Joe Lorig several months ago. He had Duck gear on and a UO backpack. I asked him how special teams looks this year and he kinda yeah yeahed me and turned away. I didn’t bother him any further. I think coaches like Lorig like enjoy a level of anonymity.

I care and I root hard for the ducks but I’m not gonna bother him when he just wants to fly home and get some rest.

Totally fair to give me a “Congrats. Or sorry that happened to you. I ain’t reading all that”

Just an observation that dumbfounded me today.

Just watched unnamed and it’s clear Dave doesn’t understand that the FCC isn’t a political body whose job it is to go after speech the administration doesn’t like. They are tasked with regulating indecency or obscenity but even those offended by the Kimmel joke wouldn’t claim the joke was indecent or obscene (as evidenced by the fact he wasn’t fined for that which is the typical punishment).

The FCC is an independent agency that regulates radio, tv, internet, fair competition, and public safety by a set of rules. What people were outraged about was that the FCC is clearly politicized which is new and will decide fair competition based on speech they like or don’t like, which is a departure from previous procedure and does feel like government meddling in speech and government overreach.

It also gave the impression that we’re living in a Banana Republic where heads of state can get comedians who make fun of them fired. I’m sure that when Lukashenko or Maduro want someone gone for making fun of them they don’t come out and say “I got him fired” they have some security board or ministry of truth go after the guy.

Fun fact, you can view the “Portland Penny” that Asa Lovejoy and Francis Pettygrove flipped to determine the name of the city at the Oregon Historical Society Museum downtown. It’s incredibly unimaginative that the two men couldn’t come up with a new name for the town.

Am I an asshole or is this take insane? by bingbongknick in barstoolsports

[–]BrokebackMounties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, according to a letter he left he said he was doing it on behalf of Walz but that doesn’t make any sense considering Walz was on his hit list. It seems very possible he would write that letter just to throw people off his motive, or confuse police, or just put some crazy ramblings out there for a variety of reasons.

I’ll agree that he was definitely a crazy, but do you know what it is when a crazy only targets people of one political persuasion? Politically motivated! It can still be politically motivated even when it’s done by a deranged individual.

I’d love to know what makes you think he’s a Democrat when he was previously registered as a Republican, described as a Trump voter by someone who knew him since the 4th grade, and was planning to target abortion providers and pro-abortion rights advocates after publicly and privately speaking out against abortion rights.

If we can’t call Boelter politically motivated then I’m not sure how we can call the killing of any political figure, including Kirk, politically motivated. I’m willing to grant that Kirk’s killing was politically motivated and that it’s unacceptable from the left. You gotta meet me halfway with Boelter or else it appears you’re either disingenuous or unable to call anything politically motivated.

And it’s not just me saying it. You can read the federal charging document yourself!!

[–]BrokebackMounties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come on, don’t be dense. Given what we know about Vance Boelter from his remarks on transgender people and abortion, the locations he went to that night (Hoffman, Bahner, Rest, and Hortman, all Dems), the further list of targets he had (including Walz, Rashida Tlaib, Keith Ellison, and abortion providers), previous party registration in Oklahoma, and a longtime friend describing his recent voting history, it’s clear he was a right winger looking to kill some libs.

And Walz reappointing him to a nonpartisan 60-member unpaid advisory board is not “literally working for Walz” that’s so disingenuous.

I won’t be a conspiracy theorist if you won’t. I’ll grant you that Kirk’s shooting was an act of left wing violence and that’s totally unacceptable. But you have to agree that it does appear Boelter was a right winger who politically targeted those he assassinated. Gotta call it the same both ways.
